  • Hey. I absolutely love the version of this song. He sounds so ahh-mazing. Just beautiful. Is there anyway that you can put this into mp3 form so that I can listen to it forever? Please let me know.

  • what does he say at 0:32 ?

  • @xxmspattinsonxx oh see i totally messed this up

  • @twood1988 thanks

  • I'm beginning to get a little suspicious... this guy has a incredible amount of extremely high quality recording bytes of John playing, new, old, and unknown.. I love all of it of course, the undiscovered stuff is fantastic.. just suspicious.. I think we have a man on the inside here. Either way, never stop posting.

  • maybe i'm just hearing things but do the strumming and the chords kinda resemble Why Did You Mess With Forever? is it just me?

  • i have low self esteem. no way john, there is no way.

  • Best song Mayer has ever written!

    Such an underrated song!

  • @philkapune he got fired from little richards band for being too showy. his departure from other bands like backing for the isley brothers, ike and tina, etc wasnt soo much from his style of playing. thats what i gathered from biographys and books any way

  • @CramProud yea man you're right too (i dont use the other account u replied to anymore) and partly that's what I meant to say by his "wild style". basically what I read in a bio was that when the band would play just traditional blues he would start improvising more psychedelic ideas that were breaking conventions and so the band leaders got annoyed by it. it was probably a combo of his style and being showy. in music performance there is usually unwritten rules of what is acceptable to playetc

  • I like his hair short (:

& Love all his music! <3

  • John Mayer is just one of those artist's that makes his albums pop, but you see him live and you see the true Mayer. Which is very blues. I love I seeing these teeny bopper girls come to the show and just fall in love with blues unexpected. Then they find really find music.

  • great quality

  • Nothing was too blues for Jimi. The ten minute "Voodoo Chile" was all blues which then became that song we all know "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". He fluctuated between blues and rock but I don't think one can say "too blues" for Jimi since that's what he grew up playing and continued to play even after his World success.

  • Hi Chaferbud,

I'm a recent subscriber to your videos and an avid JM fan. Thanks a lot for all the great uploads!! I check your page out every time I'm on YT. Just wondering if you know of a place I can get a hold of this recording? AKOG is one of my all time favs and I've never heard an acoustic version before. Much thanks!!

  • Mayer is better live than he is on his albums which is very rare, only good artists hold up live, and only the truely talented are actually better live.

  • so true man

  • Know why he hasn't recorded it? Business. It's one of his best songs, but to hear it you'd have to see him live. Just one more reason to want to go see him. If he doesn't play it that first time you see him live, then you want to go again and again until he finally does play it. Smart marketing.

That all aside, awesome song. John Mayer is pretty amazing.

  • hey everyone, you say that he hasn't record it, but it is not true, if you search a little bit, you could find that "Another Kind of Green" is the 7 track of the John Mayer Trio album: "Try!". That album was the turning point for john, he starts play what he ever want, blues stuff, so you have songs like "who did you think i was" and "Wait Until tomorrow" and that he creates when he was high (he says :P) "Out of My Mind"...

But the acoustic version of "Another Kind of Green" never was record...

  • Yeah, but that's just another live version.

  • Wait Until Tomorrow and Out of My Mind are Jimi Hendrix songs

  • you're right when you say "wait until tomorrow" is a jimi's song, but "out of my mind" isn't a jimi's song... and it doesn't make sense... it's to blues for jimi :P

  • "to blues for jimi"? ok. makes no sense. but ok!

  • you don't get my point...

what i said is that blues, isn't jimi's style... of course he could play every style... but "out of my mind" is almost pure blues, and don't forget that jimi prefers a mixture of music styles, just like in "fire" with is almost pop with a little bit of "jimi rock style"

  • i understand where you were coming from. but to say that "out of my mind" is too bluesy for jimi is evidence you've never really indulged completely into jimi's music. "voodoo chile" [and not voodoo child (slight return)] is one of the greatest slow blues jams ever. and c'mon, who can forget "machine gun"? i agree that jimi had a wide mixture of styles, but he had plenty of songs that were purely blues, just as "out of my mind" is.

  • Don't forget "Hear my train a comin'".

  • exactly.

  • jimi had a psychedelic element to (some) his music, but his music was definitely blues, albeit blues-driven "rock." almost all of his solos use blues/minor pentatonic scales. jimi's style was derived from buddy guy's -- another great blues guitarist in his own right.

"blues is easy to play but hard to feel." - jimi

  • @JesseDean929

Yeah Jimi's music was essentially blues, he even said it himself, but through distortian and key changes his sound would sound more rock-ish (or at least of what we think today!) this song is totally inspired by the Hendrix sound, 'cept the bridge; totally Mayer style!

  • How do you figure that. What about Red House?

  • you obviously know nothing about jimi "too blues for jimi"

  • I guess you've never heard his blues album... nothing is "too blues" for Hendrix.

  • Out of My Mind was written by Mayer. Wait Until Tomorrow is Hendrix.

  • Out of My Mind is not a Hendrix song.

  • It uses the same chords, structure as 'Red House' which was a hendrix song, it's clearly Mayer's take on it :)

  • I think it sounds nothing like Red House, but it does sound like its in the same Pentatonic Key...

  • Red house is based on a 1-4-5 blues progression, just like Out of my mind, and just like tons of other bluesy songs.

  • @MikeLabrow this is nothing like red house lol

  • i thought it was because since some stuff is only on his live stuff, many people just for the songs that he doesnt studio record will go buy the live album for the other material as well as the intensity in the live tracks.

  • i think it would be great that in his new album he includes this song..

  • i don't know why he doesn't have a studio version of this song. and if he does, why he hasn't released it.

  • its on his TRY! cd with the John Mayer Trio.. check it out, its freakin awesome

  • never plays this song and its one of his best???

  • i wish he would play this song more often.

it doesn't get the attention it deserves!

  • I know! This is seriously one of my favorite JM songs!!

  • i really love this song..!

i hope some day he comes to argentina, i love him :)

  • @marisolbruin Dont they all :P

  • Thank you for all the quality videos of Mayer. perfect for a Mayer-playlist. Keep 'em comin'!

  • i'll do my best! you should subscribe!

  • @chaferbud done that

  • this song is released on his try album with steve jordan and pino palidino its the John mayer trio

  • Ohhh my favorite song!! i love this version it's so beautiful. thx for uploading

  • u should put up the second improv for everyone to hear...that and the hurt would be great on the new record

  • i'll agree with the hurt... it needs to be released. he played it this summer...maybe that means it will make the next album?

  • dude, there are vids uloaded in 2006 with this song on it. so don't even bother to think about it's on the next album.

i think it'll be an early one

  • Yes. Great song. Love it.

  • This is my number one song. No question about it.
