  • hey i'm having a hard time figuring out this quick stumming technique. the only way to explain what i mean is by saying it's right before the chorus of the song big city dreams. could you make a short video possibly to explain this. i can't find one anywhere. thanks

  • thanks teacher ! :D

  • Holy shit, now I get it!!! OMG OMG OMG thank you! Wait, I think I do.

A tied note is a note that plays from one count into the next, say, a note that goes from 3 to the 1 in the next course without having to play it again for the 1??

What about when on guitar tabs where rather than a 3 (3rd fret) on the line that represents the 4th string, you have a symbol that represents the tied note (this symbol being L) - how would these be explained?

  • thankx soo much this helped alot!

  • I just learned something new! Thanks justin! Your videos help a bunch

  • you r really awesome

  • My fingers, they huuuurt!! :D

  • cheers mate

  • Very nice. I like to put the down and up strokes on the screen for my students. It seems to help tremendously.

  • Thanks

  • Best lessons on the web. You made it so simple.

  • Hey Justin

My right hand is continually moving :)

    I finally learned something. Thanks.

  • justin rocks man....thanks for the lessons

  • Wow. Justin, you are simply amazing. It feels like you're actually in the room teaching, not just on camera.

  • You're a great teacher .. thank you very much.

  • Thanks for the video dude!

  • My fingers are too short, I cannot reach around the neck of the guitar. The string goes under my fingernails...I dont get how to press down on the string, as I have to reach so far. I cant make a 90 degree onto the string.

  • you need to bend ur wrist much more - as much as you can - pretty tiring at first - like all new exercises using bew muscles for the first time - but when ur wrist strengthens up u wont notice the tiredness anymore.

With yuour wrist bent you will be able to get ur fingers much more vertical, not so flat.

Stick with it - it feels impossible at first - same for everyone. In a year you will wonder what the problem was.

  • Try muscle exercises and to make it that bit easier try and get a slim neck electric or acoustic, Dean do a good thin neck acoustic and Jackson or Ibanez for the thin neck electrics, usually the best.

Push your heart & hands, we all have restrictions somewhere along the way, but we learn :)

Take care! great lesson by the way.

  • Make sure your arm is as far under the guitar is is comfortable. Once you get better and more comfortable, then you can worry aboout how your form looks. You don't need to look like an expert when you first start lol. When I first started, I held my acoustic right up to my face because my fingers are so short. Now I'm much better and its no problem. Now strumming patterns give me a hard time. Thanks for the vid Justin, gave me a new perspective on strumming! "So long as you get idea..." Lol!

  • i really struggle with strumming patterns, this has helped so so much, thanks

  • Its amazing - not only does my guitar playing sound much better now I have better strumming technique, its actually much easier to play too.

  • Justin Sandercoe is God!

  • He may be Clapton's right hand teacher, but he is no Clapton :D No offense Justin, you are awesome though!

  • I started playing guitar recently and have you to thank for my playing. Your talent for teaching is awesome. • Thanx Justin! great lesson, as usual!

  • Great video.

  • THIS IS SUPERB!!! I gradueted my Music school, where i learned all about classic music, but there was not just cords, i fink you understand. And I didn't known this !

  • are you kidding?

  • no, I was learning just classick. ofcorse i have rithm in my head but i didn't knew that hand shouldn't stop

  • I'm surprised you graduated ANY school with spelling like that. Do you not use basic musical terms such as chords and rhythm at this music school?

  • I'm also shocked that you (Justin) don't have tabs and or strummin patterns of any Katie Melua songs. Hook us up Justin, lol.

  • very helpful

  • why does justin rule so much!?

    JUSTIN IS THE MAN!

    WE ALL LOVE YOU!

  • Excellent again! My strumming just took a major step in the right direction!

  • Thanks so much! It really helped me.

  • this really helped

  • i cant wait to make rythm on my dusty guitar...thanks

  • This is great and very helpful.

  • that was the easiest leeson yet and wtf stop coming on to the teacher geez!

  • If nothing else, these videos are surely getting you laid.

  • i love you. you are amzing.

  • I hope they wont make us pay for the Youtube access because of you. Thanks,.

  • thank u so much

  • Justin, where do you live? I am moving in with you. We can play by the fireplace ;) play guitar, that is !

  • He lives in London =) Got to get past his Tassie Devil, "Pussycat" first

  • I got guitar lessons from a pair of really powerful players but you're really good in that you emphasize rhythm in playing. Without solid rhythm, no notes make sense! Teachers assume that all players have fundamental rhythm, which isn't always true.

  • I always wondered how people got the beating rythm on a guitar...! Now I know. It sounds so simple with you J. Thanks. I just need a guitar of my own now lol

  • You're completely amazing. You teach so well. You explain everything amazingly, it makes so much sense! That you so much! You just broke through to the most hard-headed person ever! Thank you! <3

  • Thank u ~~!!

  • You're one of the most kickass people on youtube, you're helping a ton of people by doing this, myself included! YOU ROCK!

  • You sound like you want to pentrate him.

  • ROFL - ;0)

  • Who me? What's that mean?

  • Nice, Thank You.. looks like i have some new patterns to learn.. thanks..
