In order to do this bombing of major Japanese would've occurred resulting in civilian casualties. Then the actual invasion would've happened. The Japanese were fierce fighters and would've fought even harder knowing Japan was under attack. In all, the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki probably saved lives.
