Woo- hoo!! LOVE THE KINKS! I'm 19 years- old, and I'm going to see MR. RAY DAVIES himself TONIGHTTT!! :DDD (I'll probably be one of the youngest women there, haha).
@Troyman021 hmmm..this version seems to be the original to me. can't imagine the album version is actually shorter. Now, the video mix is a tad longer at the :50second mark( trust me, i know. i've tried to insert the original cd version audio into the video but i can't cuz then the music is way off sync.) I've also seen a Come Dancing Video on YouTube that is a really great quality mix but the audio is different at the end!!
Love the Kinks. Ray Davies is a great story teller and this lovely song is a fine example of his skill. If you've ever lost a place that was the centre of your social life (I lost the Sheffield Poly Students Union and Maine Road Football Ground!)
I have always loved everything by the Kinks and this song is a tribute to their creativity as it doesn't seem to be like any of their other stuff! They are singing here about a sweeter time when kids went out to a dance on Saturday night and I love the line about "he didn't know the night would end up in frustration..." hahaha
C'mon dude; I thought you might have your own video to this. It's better than nothing; but dead easy just to put a picture up. I'll try my own take on "Mad not Mad"; it's fun to do.
My Son, when he was 2 years old, used to love to hear this on the radio when we were in the car..... now he in is a major rock and roll band and I always remind him how he loved this song on the radio !!
I loved this song so much and loved to go dancing. Such a great melody and has a carribbean thing going on plus the organ and the brass (a la KC and the Sunshine band). Love the Big Band influences too . Gonna ctch teh Glenn Miller (I assume a tribute band) at Centenial Hall in London, On ASAP. Where'd you kinks go to anyway?!
Fantastic great , marvellous

I always loved this song when I was listening in the 80's. It was great to dance to and I remember skating to it as well!

Ah, the 80's....I used to do the Carlton to this jawn, reminds me of walking to work at 5 a.m. in Philly, seeing the early morning sights.
