The amount of ball control these players have to do the things they do with their feet is also unreal, and I'm sure the soccer players are better conditioned, given that they have to run all game for 90 minutes with no time outs. To insinuate soccer is not a man's sport is just laughable.
@justiceforjestes I think it's fair to say that basketball players are the better athletes. To have such a combination of size and speed is unreal. Players like Rose, Rondo, Paul, Wade and Lebron who are giants on a soccer field are probably just as conditioned as soccer players and just as fast if not faster.

@JaMesJC112 actually the british called it soccer (short for association football) to distinguish it from rugby, which both used to be called football. once they started calling the other sport rugby, they went back to football. in that time americans had starting playing american football, so we stayed with soccer. as a matter of fact it was pretty common to call it soccer or football in england right up until the 60s and 70s.

Ok for all you people calling soccer a pussy sport you should get out and try it for yourself. I've seen plenty of graphic injuries in 14 years of playing, like a player's shin bone sticking out of his leg or a kid's forearm snapping. Football players can't go out there & run for an hour and a half sraight, trust me I've seen em try. If ne1 watched any US matches this World Cup, you would have seen that our guys took shit from no1. I watched Clint Dempsey grab a man and throw him to the ground.

However you can compare it to other sports and I think for American's it's necessary to compare it to sports they know. Basketball players get to come out and rest, in soccer they play as long as they can and then they're taken out. If you look at the athletic ability it takes to play basketball vs. soccer there's no comparison. In basketball height is half the battle.

I do apologize for over exaggerating the length of the game you're right it's 90 minutes (plus stoppage time) and not 3 hours, but running for 90 minutes and having the coordination necessary to do the things they do WITHOUT their hands, it's pretty amazing.

Sports are amazing! All of them are amazing, people prefer the sports that they are best at or challenge them the most. Every sport has it's pluses and minuses. I love all sports because I am good at all of them. I am great at basketball, and an amazing footballer (soccer player). So you could guess which my favorite is. All sports have legendary athletes, even golf lol(Tiger, Jack, etc), so lets just put all the trash talking aside and agree on one thing, Ronaldo (R9) GREATEST ATHLETE EVER =D

@puff0tuff that's just a ridiculous comment. Clearly you've never taken a hard tackle in soccer before, and almost anything done in basketball on a similar level as a tackle results in a foul. The amount of ball control these players have to do the things they do with their feet is also unreal, and I'm sure the soccer players are better conditioned, given that they have to run all game for 90 minutes with no time outs. To insinuate soccer is not a man's sport is just laughable.

@justiceforjestes I think it's fair to say that basketball players are the better athletes. To have such a combination of size and speed is unreal. Players like Rose, Rondo, Paul, Wade and Lebron who are giants on a soccer field are probably just as conditioned as soccer players and just as fast if not faster.

@amodelchurro um, no.. I played basketball for 5 years of my life, Football for about 5 years aswell and tennis for about 4 years. And I can even say I like tennis better than basketball.. AND Football, not just the game itself which is by far a thousand times more dynamic and fun to watch than any other sport, but what involves a Football, if you ever been to a game in South America or Europe you'll know what im talking about

@JaMesJC112 actually the british called it soccer (short for association football) to distinguish it from rugby, which both used to be called football. once they started calling the other sport rugby, they went back to football. in that time americans had starting playing american football, so we stayed with soccer. as a matter of fact it was pretty common to call it soccer or football in england right up until the 60s and 70s.

every 5 minutes you get a shot at one of the goals and the rest of the time u use for getting beer and cheereos (or whatever u eat watching a game)

also during the worldcup i realized that soccer fans are worse at doing party than others - they got beer and thats about it

in soccer there actually aren't playbooks you run
you have a way of building up your offense and than once in a while you actually get a goal with it
i think the breaks are good to talk about what happened in football (and ofcourse nessesary for the teams)
and commercials always suck so thats a cheap point

Ok for all you people calling soccer a pussy sport you should get out and try it for yourself. I've seen plenty of graphic injuries in 14 years of playing, like a player's shin bone sticking out of his leg or a kid's forearm snapping. Football players can't go out there & run for an hour and a half sraight, trust me I've seen em try. If ne1 watched any US matches this World Cup, you would have seen that our guys took shit from no1. I watched Clint Dempsey grab a man and throw him to the ground.

Lay off soccer, it's a different sport than football and what most Americans are used to. Look at basketball, it's just as pussy of a sport when you see guys flopping all over the place and pretending they got fouled. SAME WITH BASEBALL, Derek Jeter might be the best actor in the MLB. Just lay off soccer you have to be in hella good shape to run all out on that field for 3 hours and still have the coordination to do the things they do. Hats off to soccer players.

@qball8001 It's true soccer is it's own sport, it's not mixed in with baseball or basketball to create a super-sport. However you can compare it to other sports and I think for American's it's necessary to compare it to sports they know. Basketball players get to come out and rest, in soccer they play as long as they can and then they're taken out. If you look at the athletic ability it takes to play basketball vs. soccer there's no comparison. In basketball height is half the battle.

@stream0fspin Not exactly sure what sport you could consider the hardest to play but soccer is probably the last sport anyone could just run on the field and compete with star athletes they would get run past and pass out from exhaustion.
I do apologize for over exaggerating the length of the game you're right it's 90 minutes (plus stoppage time) and not 3 hours, but running for 90 minutes and having the coordination necessary to do the things they do WITHOUT their hands, it's pretty amazing.
