@AndreiDice 'Modern Blues' is one of the names for a particular type of chord progression in jazz. Also known as 'Parker Blues' It's a basic 12 bar blues progression spiced up at every turn with substitutions and alterations.
Even though is is just an exercise you can tell its Joe Pass's guitar lines...nice playing! I recommend you transcribe his version of "You Stepped Out of a Dream" with Milt Jackson... that has so many great lines in it too! I'm working on that one myself, its really hard!
Hey, this sounds really good! My only comment at the moment is that you should try playing with the same conviction as Joe Pass (difficult, I know). It sounds a little too obvious that this is a transcription of his solo, but thats ok. Good work!
I don't know what you mean by "info box." All I know is that the clip is labeled "Joe Pass-Modern Blues." It would be nice if such covers were labeled as such.
They are from the Joe Pass Guitar Method- exercises that Joe wrote in his book, and played very well. To Bleak and Divine Thanks for the posting of this video and good work!
I have that book on the music stand. I bought it some 20 years ago and still haven't cracked it. Perhaps it is time. Joe Pass is great. I love the Montreaux Jazz Fest recording.
I want to learn how to link up the chord changes when playing the single lines. I bet even if you had no music you could hear those changes clearly, ANYONE HELP?
The standard approach is to concentrate on the important notes in each chord as it passes. Look for lessons on chord tones, guide tones and arpeggios. Jonathan
It is the same general chord progression, "Confirmation", often called the "Bird blues". It basically came from Charlie Parker adding different harmonies (II-V's) to blues, until this was arrived at.
good job my friend.

That is very nice. Is that guitar really an old ES-175 with P-90's (built before 1957)?
boschHamburg 5 years ago
Yes indeed, 1954 - P90s, wooden bridge, pre-jumbo frets.
