@downbrowntown That's kind of a loaded question, generally you want to learn as slow as you can stay on top of the water, a common mistake is going too fast. Tell me your weight, if you are going to use a boom or try longline. I can ski barefoot down to 25 or less but I typically ski at 38 to 44mph, learning you will want to plant feet at between 25-30 and go up to 35 or maybe 38. A sinking feeling is OK as long as you aren't catching or pushing through the surface.
@downbrowntown you should check out sacfooter channel for more than 300 barefoot vids some show us trainimg first timers in the swing which is the easiest way to learn without ever even falling.
Keep the handle in tight to your waist, elbows bent and tucked in to your sides, get in a reclining position, don't sit up too much, and don't try riding your three point for a long time, just plant as you are getting up enough speed and push the handle forwards(let your arms out straight) as you stand up and ski away---hope that helps
@plop010 Actually it's very hard to catch the elusive barefooter in his native habitat you must be at the right place at the right time and it also helps to put some Rob Zombie in there too.
@minigunmem , well your grandma must be about as old as the Channel Cat
"Back then we didn’t have any equipment – we used three pairs of cut-off jeans for wet pants and a Cypress Gardens vest for buoyancy!" ~Bayou Boogie Barefooter~
The Bayou Boogie Barefooter thanks for the clips. I hope they find and post all of the old school clips that are out there pre internet. I am sure there are many more.
well, you are either talking about Keith St. Onge, the current world champion, or William Farrell who you probably know since he's been footing for about 30 yrs and taught barefooting at Mike Siepels barefoot school. I am squeezed in between these guys, doing the front tumble up!
I got hurt a few times, pulled hamstring, sore knees but I didn't start til i was about 20. Ash has a big advantage by starting so young and being so flexible. Check out the videos of the De Villiers bros Andre and Zane they are incredible!
whats your recomended speed 4 someone just starting??
