ARE YOU KIDDING! Anemones need live rock. If you are asking that question, you don't need to be going around buying & killing anemones. I buy RBTAs that are bleached and revive them! I'm an expert! I should know...
Booo. (S)He's asking so (S)he can know better... Why don't you give constructive feedback rather than being an ass. People aren't BORN marine aquarist you know...
I recommend two books for reef keepers: Reef Aquarium Fishes (Scott Michael) & Marine Invertebrates (Ronald Shimek). Together, these pocket references list over 1,000 species and provide excellent information on compatibility and survivability. They're small enough to take to the store, so you can make an informed choice by buying.
@cutietwo22 Anemones are extremely sensitive organisms. they require pristine water conditions only possible with a high level of care and lots of experience in reef keeping, T5-High Output lighting or higher, or else it will bleach out from insufficient lighting. A Large Aquarium and Liverock, or else the anemone will not find a suitable place to anchor itself and will Move around until it dies. If these conditions are not met, any anemone you obtain won`t survive very long at all.
dude you can buy a long tentacle anemones becuase they are very easy to take care of? I have one it survive in one week together with my saddleblack clownfish and he is doing great? are you getting another sea anemones?
It can be yes, settlement can take a while and target feeding may be required amongst other things. Ask your LFS for an "easier anemone" and having a smaller sized specimen for your tank size would enhance your chances of success. Thanks for the Q .
Ok thanks for telling me that cause i'm just starting a new reef tank and after a while i'm going to get an anemone so i just wanted to know how hard it is to take care of an anemone.
can I put one Sarcophyton Leather Coral in a 10 gallon fish tank? 96 watts is fine for Sarcophyton Leather Coral too? when I put one Sarcophyton Leather Coral the clownfish will not fight every time right?
You can put a small specimen in there sure. But it might outgrow the tank eventually. I use 2x 54w t5 marine white bulbs on my 70gal tank and the leather is happy. These clowns shouldn't be kept in more than trios, a pair will often tolerate a spare but no more. They dont fight over the coral / anemones. Do plenty of research if you're unsure and ask your LFS for advice before making decisions. Good luck =)
Im in preparations to start my first reef tank and was wondering what they (clowns & anenomes)are most sensitive to and what advice do you have for someone who's never kept them before???
Good water quality is essential for keeping both. Although clowns are very hardy and easy to keep, the same cant be said for anemones. They are much more sensitive & in my opinion shouldnt be attempted unless you have really done your research & your tank is mature enough to support it. They can be hard to feed & may take time to settle in. I would wait to get the anemone as it is not essential to the success of clowns. I can recommend a few good dvds/books which can really help if you like.....
Some recommendations would help, thanks. Also Ive been watching dozens of vids of clowns hosting mushrooms, brain, and other corals when no anenome is present, do you know if this is common? Also do you have an idea of what species of anenome is easiest to keep?
This can be common yes. It can also be common for clowns to completely ignore the anemone and not bother hosting in anything for months. I cant help you much with anemones as I personally prefer not to keep them for the time being. A dvd I will recommend is "Your Instructional Marine Aquarium Guide" by Paul Talbot. I would buy and watch this and take notes before even buying your aquarium, it will guide you through the set up, step by step. Good luck with everything any never hesitate to ask :-)
Nice, I used to have two clown fish as well. One died and so did three anenomies. I just cant keep them. I still have the one clown fish though, it was tank bred.
I've only ever had 1 anemonie which took such a long time to settle in, moving around behind the rocks all the time. Then when it finally moved to the front and the clown fish were trying to figure it out the thing just died on me! Found it flopped off the rock and on the sand bed one day. Since then I haven't attempted another one but the clowns host the learther coral and some hairy mushrooms that I have so its cool.
