Would you still call it a jump shot if it's meant to convey the passage of time? An unmoving camera films a room. The main character reads in a chair, checks watch. The main character lounges on the couch. The main character surfs television. You get the idea.
If you can't produce a simple vlogging video without using this effect you're simply over producing your content at the sacrifice of quality.... i.e quantity over quality...
@EricsEveryNewDay Wait... what is not true exactly? Are you saying that's not the primary use/effect of jump cuts, or that they DON'T, in fact, compress time? Because it seems pretty obvious that they do sometimes compress time, and that in some scenes that could be the more the primary intended effect than disorientation.
heyy man...u are awesome. if u have time, can u just randomly watch any of my video cos i just want to know is it a big mess jumpcut or what.....cheers
Run Lola Run is a good example and you should check out Louis Malle's Zazie dans le Metro . It's out on Criterion Collection and you should be able to find a trailer on Youtube.
I took 'Broadcast Journalism' in high school (the first time they offered it, probably only time. long story....anywayssss) and 'jump cut' is one of the few things we learned/I remember. I remember it in the context of not using it especially in sports footage.
In short: I agree. Know what a jump cut is, vloggers :|

lol I totally knew you were going to say Run Lola Run, that movie is awesome. As a film nerd it does bug me when people use terms incorrectly, but I know that they probably haven't spent as much time studying it as me, so thanks for educating them.

Eric, so your video is the FIRST video the new youtube video page has shown up for me in full. I wanted to share that with you.
Run lola run is FANTASTIC. It's on Blu Ray now! :D
I like that you dedicated a WHOLE video to jump cuts. It's fantastic. I appreciate it immensely because this is the way I get about things too.
