113 is our troublesome unit, always having probs with it, the fault is a common one with the 185, i have personally blew up 2 engines this way one at oxenholme and one at ribble bridge leaving preston at full power, it was impressive oh and we dont haul multiple units DIT as they have more than 1 engine, we just isolate the demic engine and the fitters at blackpool dont repair our 185's thats siemens job at ardwick at blackpool they just fuel them clean them and tank them.
I understand from Colin the unit was removed, examined, and found to be oil leaking [possibly over filled or a joint break] on the Manifold causing the smoke - later the errant unit was attached to another Blackpool bound unit as DIT for repair by there fitters.
this was a common fault of the 185,113 has suffered a turbo disintergration, i have blown up 2 engines so far this way 1 at oxenholmw and 1 at full power leaving preston on the UF just south of ribble bridge.
also we dont haul multiple units DIT as they have more than 1 engine the demic engine gets isolated and it will run forward on the remaining 2 and blackpool fitters dont repair our 185 they can only fuel them and tank them its only siemens at ardwick that maintain and repair
