you guys are amazing! i'm a student violinist but maybe this year i will try to play viola too :) peoples in my country said viola is a difficult and a rare thing..any suggestion to get a good start for viola ? thanks :)
Very well played. If I could just make one suggestion: some dynamics would be great because it just sounded all forte to fortissimo. Nevertheless, keep up the good work.
@Cryspiano -- whoa, muchas gracias! mi hermano toca bien, pero él sigue siendo mi hermano, así que no pienso que debemos decirle que él es un genio, lol :)
@RWW124 -- well, our teacher always says, practice it until you can do it with one hand tied behind your back, lol...it was hard at first, not so much anymore :)
@sushiknittingowls --- we had a great time playing that day...we performed with one of the greatest retired american cellists...it was a real honor :)
@BabboV -- well this was just a warm up and the violist is my brother...the less we look at each other, the better sometimes. if you have siblings, especially siblings that you perform with alot, you'll definately understand this concept, lol. btw, the violist also got a full scholarship this year to a major conservatory...he's doing ok, i guess :)
your brother is great at viola for just pickin it up a few months ago from violin. switchin to violin to viola is good cuz you can play faster on the violin then viola, but then it makes playin viola easier. i play viola but im learnin violin and its hard switchin
OMG..this is inspiring...very inspiring..like so inspiring.that i shuold go tell my mom to sign me up for private lessons, right now..cause i can play...but you two are awesome!
@RobertHuck64 -- we practiced it individually for about a week, then put it together and worked on it for a couple of weeks. then we just slowly worked it up to perform it...maybe another week or two. its not the easiest piece, so 1.5 months is about right...hang in there, you'll get it.
A precise and relaxed performance. The brother was correct in attempting a tempo change.
I seem to hear a metronomic interpretation of the piece. Now that Halverson is virtually mastered by both, a version with more abandon and lush interpretation could make it world class.
How long did it take for you two to learn this song? & HOW ARE YOU BOWING SO FAST, CHANGING TO DIFFERENT STRINGS, & LIKE.. DOWN OR UP BOWING REPEATDLY WITHOUT SQUEAKING, BOUNCING YOUR BOW, OR HITTING OTHER STRINGS. WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF.
@mysterious494 -- well, learning a piece doesn't take that long, but acquiring the techniques that a piece requires does take some time...we'd both been playing for several years before we started the passacaglia. as for how we're boing...didn't you hear my brother squeeking, lol :)
@Musicasa lol you're quite welcome, Hun. I really liked your interpretation of this song :D It's like, my favorite duet of all time. Watching you two play it brings back sooo many memories.
@MrSkinner25 -- thanks for watching...we started in 4th grade in our school music program (that's a plug for music education in the public schools...).
Hey! Nice viola debut. I wish I started on the violin. William Primrose said that he preferred those that started on the violin because they generally have faster fingers. :[ Too late now!
@Musicasa2ndlanguage Oh heck yes! He is a natural! You miss, are definitely on your way to stardom as well! Good luck with your studies and keep playing - it would be a shame if you stopped anytime soon.
@EflatViola -- i wouldn't have any idea of its value. its been in our family for awhile. its an american made violin from the 1950s...a very nice viola for sure.
AMAZING! Thx u so much for sharing! Watching you two play is an incredible inspiration to me and motivates me to practice (my viola) more so I can get as good as you both one day!
Awesome idea to pick up the viola ;p i've played for six years and there need to be more of us out there. My friend who has played the violin for 8 or 9 years and i are beginning to practice: not planning to actually do it well for a few years ;p I am a freshman at an arts high school that i attend for viola, so i'm amping up my practice schedule to an hour and half to 2 hrs a day, just finished practicing actually. this is reallyreally good! I want to sound like you guys!
@IzziMyBell7 -- well, as a violinist (and the violist's sister) i'm not sure i agree completely, lol, but seriously, hes a seriously awsome violinist, but he has a real flare for the viola. how lucky that you've finished practicing...i've been putting it off all day...now, i have to get started. keep up the good work :)
@VikingMan44 -- please, please stop with the emma watson comments, lol...speaking as her brother, i can assure you, she's no emma watson!!! (ps: i hope she doesn't see this)
@annamarie1213 its not as much the time you put in as the concentration and efficiency of what you're doing while you are practicing- you can practice for hours and not really accomplish anything. And nice call on picking up the viola!! :)
@annamarie1213 -- well, i practice way more than my brother, lol, but we both try to put in at least 3 hours a day (not three hours in a row, but a total of about 3 hours). we also try to just play for about an hour or so...stuff we love, duets....just for fun. i think if you're just starting out, an hour would be fantastic. take it slow and easy, pay close attention to your sound and intonation, and don't fret over the hard stuff...it comes a little at a time :)
I cant tell you guys how many times i've listened to this. Im just starting my 3rd year of playing the viola, i want to be able to play like this some day.
