I was just in Galena this past weekend. (Oct. 5-7, 2007) It is just awesome there!! I would just love to live there and honestly plan to retire in this area. The history is overwhelming from U.S. Grant, Abraham Lincolns visit to the riverboats and Blackhawk Indian wars. There is so much history in this region that it is almost hard to really grasp.
My husband proposed to me 3 yrs ago in MOUNT CARROLL Ill near Galena. We went back to GALENA and got married at "the farmers guest house". Would not change a thing, and we have been back to visit each year since. Galena and HICKORY HIDE-AWAY are paradise.
I might visit this summer from Connecticut. For some reason I feel I have to see Grant's house...It looks like a beautiful town...PS Is his father's tannery still there?
Yea, I've been there 2 days ago, and I already miss it...I've been to every corner of it, been to the winery a couple of miles out of town, in Elizabeth town, seen Apple River Fort, Mississippi river, seen that cool tower that was built on that big hill, but it was closed :( I really like it there, of course, I ate on the Green Street, seen Grant's house, so I'm happy about my vacation... :)

Ok, so i dont live here, i was lieing. sue me though. it is so beatiful. i go there in the summer. i live in Ohio. we rent a house there in the territory. I like the view there. I thought if i said i lived here, people thought i was cool. i am not a very good liar as you can see.
Great video! You really captured the inviting sleepiness of the town. It's such a great place to get away to for a weekend.
