The difference is that all the good players play violin. All the orchestra's I've been in the violas are the slackers (this coming from a violist). The only good viola players there are switch to violin because it gets all the solos and harder parts and all that. If you guys want to make a name for the viola, practice, get good, and stick with it. Like this girl.

violas own the violins!!!! i've been pLAYING for about 4 1/2 years! ever sinces 5th grade...i love it.

the violins suck too because its like the violas cellos and basses are just sitiing there hopig for more chAlleging music while the conductor is explainig what a dotted half note is to the dumbfonded violins.

violas are underapreciated and deserve more! they have a warmer richer tone and sound great w piano and cellos go VIOLas!

You are great ! and did you know every one cares about violin and bass because its so huge but like no one cares about viola and cello proof because in my school lessons there are 0 violas and if it wasn't for me there would be 0 cellos and before i was on bow all i herd was eeeeeeeeeeee because everyone was on different songs so i wish there were 10 violas and 0 violins. No offence to violinists and bassists!

My father today is a maestro back in Sao Paulom but when he started music university, he applied for Viola, simple because of all instruments, it was the one with less ppl of all applied so he could have more exclusive time to learn the instrument! (something like 7 violas against 100+ violins and 70+ cellos)

ok here is the dif between violin and viola each instrument has 4 stringsthe violin has the strings G (lowest) D(medium) A (high) E(specialstring) the viola has the string C (specialstring) G(low) D(medium) A (highest) from left to right is lowest to highest notice how they both have G D A these strings are all the samethe C string on the violais lower than the G string a violin does not have the C string the E string on the violin is higher than the A string the viola does not have an E string

actually they're not the same. the strings are VERY different. i played viola for 5 years so far and i notice if you put a violin lets say, A string, it sounds really weak, airy, and wispy. same with d and g. so really there's a huge difference. plus when you tune, it seems tighter. but pitch-wise, yes they are the same.

haha i'm not really a fan of violin as you can see :) i don't play violin, but if you hear strad violins compared to strad violas, the viola's quality is a lot richer which makes the violin sound "less" even though it's not.

the viola has a much more richer and deeper sound, it's not just the difference between the C and E strings, the viola's pitch is also lower. mainly when you hear movie music that calm and flowing noise is the viola. the viola is that nice even sound you hear.

You need a little work on your vibrato. There's too much movement in your arm, it should come more from your wrist. I like what you did with the song and you make it resonate beautifully on such a mellow-sounding instrument. Keep practicing!
