That's because Japan has no room to build large solar panel plants, wind turbine plants, hydroelctric dams etc. Japan is already a small country, with mountains to further limit its area. Unless another way of producing electricity is found, Japan basically has to rely on Nuclear power.

The fault, as the clip quite clearly explains, was that the designers failed to accurately predict the strength of possible quakes. They underestimated, and would have built them stronger otherwise.

Only about 31 people were killed by Chernobyl, and that was with out-dated, Soviet technology. Nobody was killed or even hurt at Three Mile Island.
31 people is nothing compared to the thousands killed every year mining coal and pumping oil.
The only emission created by nuclear power is steam (water), and no, it's not radioactive.

Nuclear waste is only harmful if you're exposed to it for a really long time, and moving it is less dangerous than driving car.
Conserving energy won't keep us from running out. It's this ignorant fear of nuclear power that keeps us in an energy crisis.

Yes, Japan has killed many innocent people and tortured their POW's, but so has many other countries in history. For example the English/French, when they came to the New World, they killed millions of innocent Native Americans so that the Europeans can occupy the land. This was the same in many places in Africa. The Spanish (Ferdinand Cortez) killed virtually all the Aztec people, whilst they had done nothing to Ferdinand. And The Chinese have also done many war crimes.

That's because Japan has no room to build large solar panel plants, wind turbine plants, hydroelctric dams etc. Japan is already a small country, with mountains to further limit its area. Unless another way of producing electricity is found, Japan basically has to rely on Nuclear power.

They lost 30,000 in Okinawa alone. Their Navy was almost completely destroyed. They lost already, and Hirohito tried to surrender, several times, but the Allied commanders were not allowed to acknowledge surrender until after the a-bombs. The a-bombs were essentially a live test to 1) determine the short and long term effects of radiation on humans, and 2) intimidate the Soviets and let them know that our side was psychotic enough to use them there.

The Japanese were already losing after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the Americans entered the war, the Japanese were nothing less than a stubborn enemy trying to win the war with weak weapons of war (i.e. their planes). Even without the bombs, Japan would have lost. And like OttoMaddock said, Hirohito did try to surrender a several times.
