@Rudel23 Respect the Artist please ! Fabio gives his interpretation of the piece you may or may not like it but please no insult! As a side note, if you knew him personally you would realize how immense his love for music is and how much of himself he gives in every record or piece he works on.
Ah, I can only imagine the bliss he must have felt between 1:47 and 1:54. In any case I can tell you I had a big musical orgasm when I heard AND saw this passage.
Exceptionnel, absolument exceptionnel.
I'm always promoting the fact that Vivaldi's music shares many traits with rock and metal (which is certainly true) in an effort to introduce more people my age (18) to it! I truly believe they could get into this kinda stuff! Plus, with a movement like this, well, everyone knows and likes it anyway
Vivaldi was a celebrity of his time. So his music shares some characteristics with a popular music like rock. But I don't see anything else in common.
Well, I wasn't thinking it actually sounds like rock, but what I mean is several things. For example, the alternation between solo and tutti calls to mind the verse/chorus treatment of 'songs', especially as the tuttis usually bring back a previous theme. Also the driving rhythms giving that instant gratification feel to the music. Also the exploration of what new 'sounds' one can get out of a certain group of instruments employed again and again. Plus the length of movements, circa 3 minutes!
Well, probably because there's no set standard on how violins (baroque or modern) should be made. It depends on the region in Europe or elsewhere the violin was made. It goes for other instruments as well.
That is actually a modern set up. He is most definitely using gut strings, but the bridge and attachment of the neck are definitely modern. It looks like the size of the hall is rather large. It's possible that he was afraid that a baroque fiddle may not project in such a large space.
This is a modern set up because Biondi's violin is a modern adaptation of the Gagliano (XVIIIth century master violinmaker) violin of his former teacher, Salvatore Cicero. Like 99% of ancient violins, they have been remade to match modern criteras (more power) replacing the short neck by a long one. So it is almost impossible, at least strongly unrecommended, to remade baroque a violin after its modern transformation.
a late reply but yes... he actually has, as far as i've observed, 2 violins. 1 that's truly baroque and this one in "baroque setup" but with a modern neck and surprisingly a modern bridge.
Check out his Vivaldi concerto RV 564 ...he use his other baroque violin there.
I noticed that too, presumably this is a baroque violin that got modified at the hands of the 19th century instrument butchers (like most of the best instruments), but was of such high quality that it's still worth using in this context.
Amazing! I especially love the part after 1:00

Fabio Biondi is the most amazing violinist playing the four seasons for my taste!
I have had the opportunity to watch him play live this last movement and its amazing!
I really like the fact that he enjoys it while playing and he is not afraid to smile to his orchestra while playing!
