Man is trying to save a buck, give him a break Stanley. You think Oakland PD is going to give him a ticket when they are strapped for officers? If its a "light industrial" area then you slow down and ride around. Its part of life. In a perfect world or a city far away from the Bay Area, maybe it could be enforced like say San Rafael or Benicia.
@xaqshuna2003 I ran into a similar problem in downtown SF waiting to pull into a parking garage to deliver a load at a Walmart/Sam's Club. I had to stop briefly in a lane in SF and put my hazards on a get on the CB because it is difficult to time it right on the DOT. Glad it was an early morning deliver but kinda sucks there is really no place for tractor trailers in SF. You get creative and yes cyclists ride around the problem etc etc.
What we see here isn't the truckers fault. It's the fault of the company who doesn't have enough parking in their lot. They need to either schedule trucks better or provide more parking. You should confront them Stanley and ask why they force trucks to park illegally.
The reason they continue to park there is that the police don't enforce the laws! I see this on a daily basis in SF- double parking, taxis dropping off and picking up people, fed ex trucks making deliveries. it is very rude. start ticketing these guys and i guarantee they will stop doing it.
I feel no pity for bike riders. The laws should be re evaluated, declassify them as vehicles, and put bikes on the sidewalk where they belong.
Or make them get plates and pay all the same fees car drivers have to pay to license or even just drive a car. Make them pass a test, buy a license every few years, make them carry insurance... then MAYBE they would worthy to be on the roads. Until then, get them out of the way and up on the sidewalk so they don't slow us real drivers down.
Well you have to consider several things. First, bikes aren't hazardous objects that if used incorrectly can hurt or kill other people, except in extremely rare circumstances. This would be like making people get a license to skateboard or roller skate, or scooter.
Second, the easier it is for people to hop on a bicycle, the more that ride them, and the less crowded city streets are. Imagine if everyone in SF who biked drove a car. Then you would be screaming for more bicycle incentives.
@tangypanda If cyclists on the road are slowing you down you then must admit that your driving skills are lacking. Cyclists don't slow me down. I just safely pass them. Hell, I might even slow down a few MPH for a few seconds. No problem.
You have nobody to blame but yourselves.Your pathetic excuse for a city refuses to provide proper parking for large vehicles so ride your little bikes somewhere else so we drivers can do our jobs.
Bike lanes are there for a reason. Often drivers of automobile think they own the road which probably suits to their advantages since they are driving a dangerous object. Cars are faster and powerful compared to a typical bicycle. A defenseless cyclist cannot protect against the automobile so I think automobile drivers should be aware of the huge risk they are posing to cyclists. They should share the road with all cyclists.
I commend you on trying to bring light on to the plight of bicyclists but i wish you would do more of a story on Market street and how the DPT treats parking violations on Market street in San Francisco. I live on Market street and have sent to you in the pass picture of parking violations om Market sidewalks, via the subject line "people behaving badly".
I ride down Fruitvale Ave. from Alameda to Fruitvale BART and I've had to go around double-parked vehicles in bike lanes on countless occasions. It's a pain in the ass having to look back to make sure there's no cars doing this. Another problem I come in contact with are transit buses pulling over at bus stops. I often have to circumvent a bus and it's dangerous sometimes. I don't trust bus drivers.
It's called tire slashing....very effective

Those trucks scare me because I would be forced either into car lanes or the sidewalk. I have ridden my bike all over the San Francisco Bay Area.

When I was a kid, I always rode my bike on the sidewalk. It's too dangerous to ride a bike on the road!

NO! The true "A" holes are in BUCKYSTEIN (#7) VS. Critical Mass ROAD RAGE! because no one on a bike should be murdered.
