Goodness. Better is such a subjective word. Maybe to a stranger, Herring is more technically polished than Houser was. But Mikey WAS Widespread Panic. He's the reason they sounded like they sounded. When Mikey was cookin', it mattered not what song they were playing. THAT was Widespread Panic. To say that Mikey sucked compared to Herring tells me you know squat about the true phenomenon that used to be Widespread Panic. Mikey was the heart of the best live music there ever was!

Do people that hate Herring hate him because he is so ridiculously much better than Houser was? I thought Houser was a lame lead guitarist from the first moment I heard him, but, I loved the band and had to learn to like him. He was certainly unique and a great songwriter, but, not very skilled as a lead guitarist. Nobody has yet articulated to me why they would shit all over one of the finest guitarists of our time. Mikey would have laughed in your face if you said he was better than Herring.
