  • amazing!!!

  • Holy %$@! AMAZING!!!

  • Holy %$@!

  • As an aspiring tenor in my 30s, I never imagined that such a well-connected, full-sounding F above high C were possible. If this was strained or falsetto, I wouldn't hear that vibrato, and the note sure wouldn't sound like the other notes in his range. Most tenors, including the pros would be lucky just to be able to produce an equally rich, warm and well-connected high-C.

I count myself lucky to live in an era of such a uniquely gifted singer - luckier still if I can learn from his example.

  • brownlee is the world's greatest classical tenor

  • Brownlee's voice is even better suited to this piece than it is to "A te, O cara," I think. Fine singing. The soprano, however, sounds like a bad imitation of Maria Callas.

  • @Detectivefiction haha the soprano is wailing all over the place and going sharp.

  • The proper mix of head and chest voice is what you all have heard.. not a falsetto.. anyone who says it as a falsetto then try hitting it with all your chest or with just the head voice.. lets see if you even go up to High C.. Please, before you say anything, make sure you have the adequate knowledge about being a tenor or even in other voices, its technicalities and its natural state.. Please don't make yourself look stupid. Thanks! ^^

  • Such a badass.

  • Bravissimo Lawrence!

  • BRUTTA VOCE GRANDE TECNICA E OTTIMI FIATI! BRAVO!

  • Absolutely the most natural high f I have heard. It still sounds like a tenor. The other high F's sound either like a girl og like a squealing pig.

Brownlee wins the high f prize!

  • omfg - I think this is the only legitimate one I've ever heard haha

  • I'm really impressed with this Lawrence Brownlee, whom I have not heard before. He manages the high F better than Pavarotti's falsetto one, but I can't make up my mind whether there is also falsetto in his note. I fear so. Which means Nicolai Gedda still reigns supreme as king of the high F's!

  • @MrAndredekock: falsetto? Only if he sings the whole aria in falsetto, because the F is TOTALLY CONNECTED, with full tone, bright and color... you might like Gedda better, but please, don't blame it on an alleged "falsetto" that just isn't there.

  • @MrAndredekock The Pavarotti recording I heard sounded full voiced, but I have to agree this was better. Brownlee is surely the best tenor of his generation, and arguably the best ever.

  • @MrAndredekock man, you're dumb. Only females can sing F5's void of any "falsetto". If you knew anything about proper technique, you'd know that a male's head voice is actually a mixture of his falsetto and chest voice. Being a 17 year old tenor, the highest note I can sing in my chest voice is around a b natural. For a tenor to sing an F5 full chest voice is just not humanly possible. To criticize Brownlee on his use of falsetto in this aria is downright stupid.

  • @incredulousG3 You're right! I'm dumb enough to know that after 32 years of singing and now retired I know a HECK of a lot more than you do at 17! There are many tenors here on YT who do NOT sing falsetto high F's. I sincerely hope you will find another teacher if yours has taught you that your head register/voice is a combination of falsetto and chest register/voice. You're in grave trouble if you're taking your chest register/voice any higher than your natural change notes.

  • @veronique118 Ah???Bon..Bref..!

  • This is like seeing the 100 metres run in 8 seconds - inhumanly impressive.

  • My God! This guy has a wonderful voice. Lirico-Leggero without a doubt but with a spice dark sound that makes it sound unique. I think he might have a potential to go for another rep. with the maturing of his voice, but still a long time for that to happen. He will present us with a lot of this performances for much more years. The soprano was not on a good night. There's another video on youtube of this duet where she is very good.

  • @stravinskij91 im pretty sure he is around 36

  • Brownlee's high F = OUTSTANDING.

  • Seriously, somebody must have bribed the soprano to sing so awfully...

  • Mr. Brownlee is marvelous but somebody tell me how in the hell that soprano got the job?!!!

  • Wow, I don't know whether to listen to this or not, the tenor's voice is absolutely gorgeous, and the soprano, I feel her vibrato is much too wide.

  • Brownlee is amazing - WOW. He has a wonderful timbre. WHO is that hooty soprano? - I will try to avoid her in future!

  • @Manxypop Thats funny! avoid her hahaha! Yea She sucks!

  • @Manxypop Je suis tout à fait d'accord avec toi!C'est horrible!Elle chante comme une vielle dinde et pourtant elle est encore jeune.

  • Yeah, I guess no one likes the soprano in this. She's pitchy and horrible. Brownlee by comparison is really something.

And his high F is very convincing!

  • Pitchy is one word for it!! I would have said that she is completely out of tune for a lot of it!! YUCK

  • I dont know if convincing is the right word to use. Because i think you are implying that its Falsetto and its not.. Is that what you mean?

  • Well I wouldn't say it's sung chestily--which it shouldn't be. I meant that it is bright and clarion-like, which meets the requirements of the aria. You follow?

  • @flaze3 convincing? What does that mean?

  • @bradleyjenks It means it's great.

  • @flaze3 yeah it is. Right?!

  • @bradleyjenks yep.

  • Celso Albelo is much better in this aria, althought this tenor is also very good.

  • I STRONGLY disagree.

  • Holy Mother of God!!..Amazing!!...

  • I saw his recent Cenerentola at the Met opposite Elina Garanca--amazing singing!

  • omg the high f

  • I believe he is 34 or 35

  • Man...he is excellent. The soprano....ouch!!!

  • Lol Kind of sounds like the conductor was not expecting that high F. Anyway, like many have already commented, he was really really good in this, while the soprano was pretty horrible.

  • wooo i was there for this.

  • He sounds fantastic, nice voice, outstanding high notes... One of the best belcanto tenors nowadays.

Madame Amsellem had not her night (or maybe this is not her role...)

  • He didn´t impress me in his Met debut as Almaviva, but the singing here is really good!

  • Fantastic tenor, the soprano is rather poor.

  • Norah on the other hand is attrocious in this role, particularly as an actress.

  • Perfect singing! Seattle Opera is lucky to have you!

  • Thanks for posting this. I'd never heard of Lawrence before, but will go searching for him on iTunes and check out his schedule in the UK - I hope! Lovely voice

  • Amazing! It's the best high F I have heard as far as I remember. Bravo tenore!

  • I heard it live and jaws were dropping all over the house. Truly the most gorgeous tenor voice I have ever heard live.

  • Thanks, great post! LOVE YOU LAWRENCE

  • Thank you so much for posting this!
