Because Leno failed this... Charlie Musselwhite has been playing that harp (like a god) for nearly 50 years, has recorded 20 Albums, and is a freaking blues legend.

Lauper and Musselwhite could have carried this without Lang.

Jonny does no wrong. Cyndi does the Blues, who knew? Talent can't be denied. I have seen Jonny Lang perform numerous times, and live twice. He is an amazing talent. His Gospel album is incredible. I fault him for one thing and one thing only.... his Experience Hendrix Tour isn't coming to my town, Seattle. How can you NOT come to Seattle, the birth and resting place of Jimmi? Tsk tsk tsk...... :)

Johnny Lang dropped the beat more than once- and not on purpose, I believe. I agree that Musselwhite got dissed- but, hey- you could hear him, at least. I liked Johnny's singing and doubling the notes on the guitar, but he needs to not fock up the song structure when doing it. Cyndi's vocal was alright, and I love her Rocky Horror Picture Show look.

Seriously, Jay. Give Charlie some props next time. Great to see you feature some blues, though.

Also, Charlies shirt is ever so cool.

Charlie sounds Great. Very Tatsy Backing. Jonny sounds good to me,

I mean, he sounds just like Jonny Lang. Ms Lauper over emphasizes

singing behind the beat, to the point of annoyance. She is able to pull

these kind of High profile mainstream gigs because of her past, and

the fact that she has sold millions of records/cd's. There are a shitload

of female blues singers who come across much more authentic and

from their souls...but they don't have Cyndi's connections or mainstream

history.

Yeah, but with Charlie, there's rarely any doubt who is playing. You could just hear the audio of this, and there would be no question who was playing the harp part. The pros know how to accompany - add something to the song without the flash and ego. The guitar solo is on now, and it's the difference between a boy and a man - Jonny vs. Charlie. Seriously, the more I watch this, the less I like Lang's affectations......

I think Charlie does a great job of adding tasty licks while staying nicely in the pocket which I'm sure was the game-plan! On the other hand, Cyndi needs some grit in her voice to be a convincing blues singer - she's got none - may I respectfully suggest some heavy drinking & smoking?!! It's worked well for others...(their voices not their health!).
