Sheldon isn't stupid. But he's very ignorant in some ways. He's a dreadful teacher.
Penny isn't stupid. But she certainly wouldn't be able to understand Physics. Not many people do. I'm sure she could pick up the basics.
I don't understand it at all. It's quite interesting though. Maybe I should have taken Physics in school, instead of Chemistry. I only took chemistry because it involved a lot of practical work.
@sonicfan097 Bohr was an experimental physicist not a chemist. We physicists like to view chemistry as an (almost) obsolete sub field in physics. He pioneered the model of the atom and worked on quantum mechanics. He also had regular correspondences with Einstein as the new quantum revolution took hold i the 20's. He also advised people like Heisenberg and Pauli.
Η Ελλαδάρα είναι παντού!!!!!!!!! Την Ελλαδάρα μας κανένας δεν την φτάνει και κανένας δεν την επηρεάζει!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greece is everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@JRSanchez93 D: I saw that when I tried to go to his channel. Not like he was trying to be a criminal. The least he did was credit Warner Bros. for the clips. R.I.P. 00462 :(
Man Penny is an idiot. If F=mg and mg=ma, then how is it not blatanly obvious that g=a? I literally just started taking physics and I understand this perfectly.
One of the things I love about Physics is that it doesn't start with "what is Physics", "where does it come from" and "how is it related to other sciences", it rather starts with calculus and linear algebra right away for "welcome" :D
Kaley Cuoco really deserves an oscar for not laughing in this scene, because it's physically impossible to NOT laugh when Jim Parsons philosophizes about "warm summer evenings in ancient greece..." :)
@3:22 "what do we know from this?".... We know that mass (m) cancels out and acceleration (a) equals gravity's acceleration (g). So, a=g. That is to say acceleration (a) = 9.81 meters per second squared. F=ma and a=g (on earth), therefore F=mg (in the negative y direction, it's independent of x direction). So to find out the force (in Newtons) of an object resting on the earths surface, you would multiply it's mass (in kg) by g (9.81 m/s/s).
Sheldon: Why are you crying? Penny: Because I'm stupid! Sheldon: That's not a reason to cry. One cries when one is sad. For example I cry when others are stupid because it makes me sad. LMAAAAOOOO
"That's no reason to cry...one cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid and it makes ME sad..."
Teachers, tutors, and Pompous Degree-Holding-People-Of-All-Disciplines...
Thumbs up if you've ever empathized with THAT sentiment before (I'm an English major, so sorry, Science majors...though I DO really love Biology, if I hadn't picked English...but, for the record: Shakespeare > Schrodinger!) ;)
@obiwanobiwan13 first of all: it's SCHRÖDINGER or if you don't have the "ö"-key Schroedinger, and he was an austrian physicist and NOT biologist. then there's that fact that Shakespeare did write really good things to amuse people, hell yeah people got amused and he may have made some people think about the stuff he wrote, but Schroedinger described with the Schroedinger-equation how the quantum state of a physical system changes (which is really important .. part 2 follows
@ILoveSk8brdng First, I KNOW Schroedinger--I didn't know that's how you spell it without the "ö" and I don't have one, so sorry--was a physicist...I was simply saying *I* like Biology.
Second, I would argue in their respective fields, Shakespeare's a bigger giant in Literature than Schroedinger in physics...which isn't to take anything away from Schroedinger, but Shakespeare is #1 or near there, and Einstein, Newton, Hawking, Marie Curie, Bohr Darwin...all ahead, JUST in my own opinion...
@ILoveSk8brdng Part 2--Third, I would submit Shakespeare did more than simply "amuse" people...his works, and, indeed, the works of Mozart and Michelangelo and artists everywhere, give MEANING to the brilliant discoveries science has brought forth. Shakespeare's works ARE a breakthrough...in The Humanities.
Science=The Humanities, sir...
Science without The Humanities is cold, unfeeling, and empty, and The Humanities without Science are vacuous, blind, and mistaken..
I have the utmost respect for Science and scientist, sir, and I don't mean at all to trivialize your field--I merely was merely giving *my* biased, joking opinion of who *I* like more, Shakespeare over Schroedinger, because..well...that's my field, I'm sure you have a bias towards some scientists in your field over others... just don't trivialize my field, either.
I know in the show Amy takes neuro-biologists over physicists, and it drives Sheldon crazy. :)
@obiwanobiwan13 I don't really think, that any well-known scientist, like schrödinger, einstein, bohr, rydberg, planck, etc. can be considered as more important than one other, but well, that's my opinion..
Perhaps I've been a bit too polemic - if so, I excuse myself for sounding and/or being too harsh with my writing. I've got big respect for writers as well, but as you already said (I'm studying natural science and therefore) I might be a little biased
@obiwanobiwan13 part2: for the understanding of subatomar particles like electrons. The Schroedinger-equation and the uncertainty principle of Heisenberg are really important and were a scientific breakthrough!
I'm sorry, but: (natural) science > literature
post scriptum: in this case - literature like Shakespeare (not scientific manifests)
I am facinate by physics and will dive straight into it. But when in chemistry the class de toured to Schrödinger's partical oscillator, my head got done in. The only part of physics i never liked.
@TheJuicycouturegirl I love the fact that English is not my native language and I can spell "younger" the right way... xD no offense, that was so exploitable :P

in case there are still viewers who don't understand, mg = ma,
which means a = g.
and g is the gravitational acceleration or gravitational field strength. a normally stands for any kind of acceleration.
Different people learn at different rates, unlike objects falling in a vacuum which accelerate at the same rate, due to a lack of air resistance
The value of g at the surface of the earth is approx 9.81ms^-2, but it decreases as you move further away from the earth.
