Hi i know this video is kinda year old by now but i was wondering what kind of stem is that on your pipe? To me it looks a bit like bakelite. Well anyway hope you are enjoying it. Take care :)
It could just be you breathing in the smoke in the air in your room. Try smoking outside for a while and see what happens. I have C.O.P.D and I still smoke my Pipe everyday with no problems as long as I keep a window open, I dont inhale of course.
Smoked one when I was younger and went with cigars on the golf course. I've developed patience since then about 15 years and I just went and bought a really nice Briar wood pipe with a chocolate ruffle blend that has 3 levels of chocolate with hint of coconut and almond. Got a tamper and will have to develop a good cake in the bowl. Been awhile. Enjoy your pipe, KTP50
As long as you're not inhaling the smoke into your lungs and just puffing on it, it shouldn't affect your asthma. If you're worried that you might be doing things wrong, there's plenty of great videos of youtube. Checkout Kel's "How to smoke a pipe" series on his channel SmokeRingsPipeDreams. Should help you out a heap.
@kainemaxwell Actually, my uncle smokes pipes and I always loved the smell of them. Recently, I met a 97 year old Jewish man, who I interviewed for a story, and he too smoked pipes, which reminded me so much of my uncle! So rather than sitting back in envy of the good-smelling, meditative hobby, I decided to try lighting up and smoking a pipe myself... and from there, a new hobby was born!
@thvisualstenographer Thanks! I actually watched a few videos on how to clean using salt treatments. The only problem is they don't sell Everclear in California, so I'm currently searching for another legal high proof grain alcohol to use.
Hi, nice to see a lady pipe smoker. Good first video, you come over well on camera. I have some asthma too but I have found that it is not worse if I smoke a pipe. I find if I 'clench' and grip the pipe in my mouth no hands, then I think I am more inclined to inhale a little. Kel is 'The Man'...just 2 or 3 gentle sipping puffs then a break tends to work best for me. Hope you keep trying and find out what works best for you. Cheers
@hampshirepipe Hey thanks for the advice! I haven't experienced any chest pains since making this video. In fact, I'm inclined to think the pains were related to the smog, chemically laden air here in Los Angeles, but who knows... Point is I feel great and I'm enjoying the pipe and the vibrant community of tobacco pipe smokers on youtube. :-)
Tried to pm you about this, but if you haven't already done it, then perhaps check out 4PipeNewbies, a channel created by Gustavo , Requiempipes which is full of all sorts of useful videos on a variety of topics. Cheers
Hey - welcome to this amazing vast community of what I would have expected was a minority appreciation society, but its huge, and this is a nice place, generous helpful folks and genuine people who I am glad to call mates, on the smoke technique - sometimes even the best of us pack it wrong & it smokes rubbish, I feel if your breathing is being affected (with regard to asthma)- poss drawing too much too deep too quick, easy mistake to make as a new pipester.
@ADzPipes Thanks for watching and commenting. I've since learned to take shorter puffs and as a result my chest pains have subsided. But who knows, it might've been attributed to the dirty, polluted LA air I breath in daily... :-)
There is no wrong way to smoke a pipe. The most important thing is to take your time and just enjoy the smoke. Welcome to the show! Best Regards - Cort
Hello and Welcome! Greetings from Florida. Nice to see a female smoker in the community. Please keep up the videos and ask all the questions you want. I don't think anyone(including me) inhales the smoke. It's harsh on the throat and lungs. Best advise, relax and enjoy. Lite puffing, relight as often as needed, experiment with the packing. It's not a skill, but you will develop a "touch" for packing. there are some good videos from pipemagazine on YouTube on different styles of packing. Gregg
Welcome to the pipe community. There are plenty of presenters who will gladly help you with any questions you have on pipe smoking. The best way to find out what you want to know is to watch listen & learn. Nice to the opposite gender smoking a pipe for a change.Keep on making video's of your progress.
Well welcome, I'm glad you found your way here. First of all that is a great looking pipe, looks like a Savinelli. 2 bowls an hour to seems kosher, I tend to smoke more if my hands aren't occupied. You are a great conversationalist, it was a good video.
Firstly welcome to the Youtube video pipe community! As far as the puffing question, in my series "how so smoke a pipe I address "how to puff". It was one of my latest videos in that series. That may be of some help. Small puffs on the pipe without inhaling is best. Take your time and just sip the pipe. Hope this helps!
