One of his best friends and their child was moving to Canada, his other best friend all tossed him aside for his new family, the love of his life moved to NYC, he lost his job, his beloved club was destroyed... *shakes head* It's seemed as if every time he tried to do something nice, it backfired on him.

I think what happened in the final episodes is A LOT. Brian finally told Justin he loved him. That's BIG. He was willing to give it all up for him but what he was becoming was not who Justin fell in love with. They would have been miserable if they had gone through with it. Brian wouldn't be the same and I can almost guarantee he wouldn't be happy turning himself into the same kind of "step-ford housewife" that he'd been bashing all those years.

It would have been selfish on both their parts. This is Justin's future and it's something he wants, regardless of what he says. If he didn't love his Art, he wouldn't do it. Brian knows this. Justin knows Brian won't be the same and he doesn't want to change him like that. Them getting married at this point would have been a mistake but it was the very NOTION that Brian even ASKED that made it special in the first place. But at this point it wasn't realistic.

They can be just as happy without marriage. And if they DO marry, it should be when BOTH parties are not only 100% ready in their hearts, but 100% ready emotionally and mentally.
