  • I was at that game. What was really amazing was that a large part of the crowd had left early to try to beat the rush out of the parking lot.

  • Can someone explain what was significant about this game? Michigan had already lost earlier in the year, and this one was against Indiana, not exactly a powerhouse. What am I missing?

  • The play was preceded by John Wangler's illegal fumble out of bounds.

  • @Spartan00000000 Who are you? Corso? Cause the rule wasn't changed until AFTER the 1979 season. Jesus, get your facts straight before you post stupid stuff

  • @dunnyb41 He's Sparty. You can't hold Sparty to a very high standard. It wasn't Wanger either.

  • Jeremy Gallon almost pulled a Carter against Notre Dame last month. I wish he had. That would have been even more exciting than scoring on the next play when they did.

  • Great play. At the end of the season though, both Michigan and Indiana had the same overall record: 8 wins, 4 losses. Michigan lost to North Carolina in the Gator Bowl while Indiana beat BYU in the Holiday Bowl.

  • Bob Ufer - "Ufer is going out of his mind!"

  • Carter caught the pass. Indiana is stunned. Ufer is going out of his mind. Tears are streaming down my face.

  • I was 7 years old and on the 40 yardline for this game. I'm 39 now and, till this day I have never..ever..EVER heard a crowd as loud as I heard that day. My brother and my father held my hands as we rushed the field. Even as a child,I felt like I belonged with my adult suroundings. I will remember that day as long as I live. UFER!

  • lol 70's hair

  • I was at that game (my Junior year) and that was still the most memorable moment in sports for me. AC is still my favorite Wolverine followed closely by Woodson. GO BLUE

  • I still get choked up when I look at this video. Ufer's heart is bursting with pure joy.

Then I realize that He and Bo are now in "Football Valhalla" with Benny, Fielding & Fritz.

    Go Blue.

  • michigan replay from 1980? you have any episodes? that was bo's cinderella season...

  • OH MY GOD CARTER SCORED!!!!!!!

  • This play indirectly lead to Corso showing up on your TV every Saturday wearing some dumb ass mascot head. When Ufer went into the 3rd person you knew something big was happening. Ufer, Bo and Yost are sitting around Valhalla watching it now and grinning ear to ear.

  • I'm 29 yrs old, so I don't really remember Bob Ufer. But I now know why my dad told me he was the best! This guy is great!!!! He holds nothing back and does not care if you think hes bias. GO BLUE!!!!!

  • I was 14 years old and working in the yard with my parents and I heard Ufer make this call on the radio, and it still brings me goose bumps hearing it again.

  • I hate Michigan, but that's one damn good play!

  • Comment removed

  • Ufer was great, I remember when U of M was playing Ohio State and as the buckeyes were coming onto the field Ufer said " Here comes Darth Vader Earle Bruce and his scarlett and gray stormtroopers"!!!

  • I was there!

  • this is CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Didn't hear the original call by Bob Ufer but that was AWESOME!! And seeing Bo jumping around like he just won the lottery was priceless!! Such a classic play in Michigan history...GO, BLUE!!

  • Bob Ufer is my hero

  • "Ufer's going out of his mind!"

  • Thats a clutch throw & catch

  • Love Corso!

  • LOL....that bloody horn! love it!

  • Bob Ufer=LEGEND

  • Thank you for posting & youtube for existing. Sheer emotion. I'll never forget hearing him call that over the radio...

  • Wingin' Johnny Wangler: the only one who could turn Bo's ground game into a pure air assault and get Bo his first Rose Bowl win (after SO many failed tries).

  • Anthony Carter on the skinny post. Great coaching by Corso. Instead of going for the win when they made it 21-20, he kicked the point FOR A TIE!! No wonder he;s on TV putting on mascot heads. As a coach, LEE CORSO WAS A LOSER!!

  • Don't recall ever hearing of Bob Ufer, but to hear him go totally crazy is refreshing!! In this age of sterile announcers, its nothing like hearing a "homer" who loves his team. Hearing him in tears helps me to remember why I absolutely love college football!!!

  • Bob Ufer:What a guy!

  • "Ufer is going out of his mind!" I wish he was still around. I grew up listening to him on tape since he passed before I was born.

  • i met anthony carter this weekend at the michigan penn state game

  • Isn't this the game that got an entire officiating crew suspended for calling an interference penalty on Indiana that never happened?

  • The disco music during the show, and that CARPET on the field!...lol.

  • that's not a disco/porno soundtrack, that's "jazz fusion"... at least one degree of separation.

  • I love the porno music for Mich Replay back then. Ha!

  • this was a great play, you feel for both sides here. what a play for michigan, i think they were geting to the point of the season where they were becoming complacent and indiana was as corso would say "sneaking around the chicken coup". indiana was'nt that bad that season, if not for this loss coupled with the close loss against colorado earlier that season, indiana was good enough to win 10 games. it was sad how michigan's season tappered off soon after this win with 3 close losses.

  • Go Blue!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol lee corso is going crazy when whoever fumbles the ball out of bounds on purpose

  • "Whoever" would be Lawrence Reid, #23, a fullback on that 1979 Michigan team.

  • alrighty then

  • Good catch by Corso at the :38 second mark....

    ROARRRR!!

  • Bo is in football and life's Valhalla

  • 95 wolverines are going into the endzone! that sends chills down by spine when i hear that! michigan for life go blue!

  • Man... Brandy sounds so different. You can tell how much younger he was

  • I was there during my frosh year at UM....it was bedlam when that play happened

  • Ufer: "They aren't even gonna try the extra point. Who cares? Who gives a damn?"

  • Chills!!

  • This happened when I was 7 years old. I saw it on the Detroit evening news and have been a Michigan football fan ever since.

  • Who is number 8 of Indiana? The player who could not tackle Carter.

  • love this ending, makes you want to be there.

  • that was probably the greatest catch ever in college football meechegan football is the best !

  • my dad was there and he sed he touched carter's jersery

  • What a way to close the 1970s.

  • Someone asked me when I became such a big Michigan fan.

Oct 27, 1979: I'd already lived in Ann Arbor 5 years - and of course followed the Wolverines. On that day - I was in my townhouse a good two miles away when Carter made that touchdown. You could hear that tremendous roar of the crowd from that far away. That was the day I realized what the Michigan Wolverines were: legendary!

It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!

  • Goose bumps

  • Ufer is so cool to listen to, at least if you're a Michigan fan.

My dad was a sportswriter in the press box for this game. He said that when this play happened, all but himself and two other writers had left to go down to the locker room (those writers thought the game was over).

My dad and the other two writers had to go down and describe the play to all the other writers who missed it.

  • I was sitting in the student section (which was then in the end zone) and will never forget this moment. Thanks for posting.

  • Look at 0:37 - the ball carrier deliberately throws a backward pass (lateral) out of bounds. It feels like a logical thing to do, but is/was it legal?

  • It was legal then but made illegal because of this play...

  • A.C.!!!! rocks - from a suncoast alumni

  • Maybe this was the pinnacle for Michigan football..no more Ufer, no more Bo...AC is around..Dont knowif we are on the right path now..sorry for the downer. GO Blue!

  • For those who say Michigan Stadium isn't that loud, let me tell you it was roaring after this play :)

  • Check BO @ 1:45 GREAT

  • I remember that play like it was yesterday. Bob Ufer said back in 1979 that Johnny Wangler to Anthony Carter will be heard till another 100 years of Michigan football is played. Well that was 29 years ago and it is still being heard.

May God Bless Bob's Cotton Pickin' Maize & Blue Michigan heart.

  • I was at A.C's last home game when he was a senior. They announced all the seniors and saved Carter for last. Announcer says "one more player to introduce." The big house went absolutely nuts. It was awesome.

  • Okay, great moment for you Michigan fans. But being from Indiana, this one play sums up Indiana football. Totally inept players and coaches. Corso you idiot, go for two after you made it 21-20. Instead, Mr. College Football Gameday kicks the point and PLAYS FOR THE TIE! HELLO! As Herman Edwards would say, you play to win! Carter scored thanks to some of the worst tackling you will ever see. This is why Indiana is a basketball school. GRRRR!!!!

  • Didn't matter if Corso went for 1 or 2. The only difference it would have made was a 5 pt. or a 6pt. victory.

  • No one at UM talks about the play before the TD, but they made the intentional-fumble-out-of-bounds play illegal the next year as a result of that play. Funny thing is the ball went straight to Corso. Great clutch play, I have to admit, but it does sum up IU football.

  • Your the greatest Bo...GO BLUE!

  • Maybe Woodie, Bo, Ufer and Fielding Yost ARE up in football Valhalla...

If anyone IS, those guys are already have seats on the 50.

    Go, Bo!

    Go, BLUE!!

  • They Aren't Gonna try the Extra Point, Who Cares Who Gives A Damn.

  • God Bless Bob Ufer!

  • Dreisbach as a Freshman throwing hte TD pass against Virginia in the opening game of the season is almost as great.

  • Bo, may you rest in peace!!! Please help us beat OSU this next season, though.

  • God bless ya, Bo!

    Go BLUE!!

  • I was only 5 years old....I grew up listening to Bob Ufer records on my dad's record player.....gives me chills every time!

  • I was there! Also have an unused ticket stub (we only used 4 of 5 tickets that day) that I keep with me on my nightstand. Probably the only one that exists.

  • the side by side of Bo is priceless.

i could watch this over and over.

  • Go blue!!
