If I remember correctly this was Jerry's first show back after a long hiatus because of rehab....A group from the good old days drove from Fort Fun CO to Oakland with a stop in Taho for the weekend. Ken Kessey judged the costume contest...what a crazy night and show....
@FTFUN1212 Yes Jerry was coming off a diabetic coma I believe , we said that wherever , and whenever he plays we will be there . Jerry never known for saying much , said after about the second or third tune " So how's everyone doing ? " And I don't think there was a dry eye in the house during " Shining Star "
I quit my job over this show! I was in my 2nd year at San Diego State and we scored tickets the day they went on sale. I told my boss at Red Lobster (yes, fucking RED LOBSTER...oh the shame!) and he wouldn't give me the time off. So right there and then I quit. It was Jerry or the job. A no brainer. About 5 of us did the road trip up to Norcal. What a night this was...Ken Kesey was the master of ceremonies...all the heads in crazy costumes. Awwwoooooooo!
@deyoungparker When you get right down to it, there was no chioce in the matter....go to the show go to the show go to the show. And screw what can only have been a little power hungry manager @ Red Lobster. Remember, for you, that job was a take it or leave it gig, but for your ex-boss all those years ago...well he or she is probably still there picking up rancid shrimp shells around the "All You Can Eat" salmonilla bar.
@rockyracoon667 why do you HAVE to know that and else be a morron, you're just weird.... and sorry for not knowing every litte detail of music in general
@joeyraccoon Warren didn't take it so well that they were playing his tune without permission. He was going to sue but decided it would cost to much. He did stay bitter though. Thats why the Grateful Dead didn't do it so much. Kind of respect for Warren. I heard Warren was VERY strange about this sort of thing. Peace.
yyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhooo.........love the dead and jgb stay away from him he'll rip ur lung out jim....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooo
The voice may have been far gone, but the chops were there. I hadn't realized that Jerry did this tune--thanks! May Warren and Jerry jam away in eternity on this one!

Oh man, I got grounded a few weeks beforehand and my ticket to this show was given away! I'm still mad at myself!

Oh and 1987 was the year. Tickets said Triumphant Return. I remember buying a shirt that showed Jerry facing backwards and it read JERRY'S BACK!

does anyone think this sounds like sweet home alebama all summer long by kid rock?
t96s 1 year ago
@t96s yes, kid rock mixed the sweet home alabama and this beat in his song. He used Waren Zevon's version though.

@t96s If you are a moron and didn't realize that song is ripped off warren zevon's original...then yes.

Not ripped off . . . covered . . . it's usually taken as a compliment by the writer of the original.
