1) It is early June. The bugs were just starting to come out when we were leaving.
2) The cabin is that small because we planned it that way. We only had 8 days and limited numbers of large trees. And in the beginning it was only supposed to be a tool shed :-)
3) Now when I go to McCarthy to visit friends or hike or ice climb, I don't have to stay in the little hotel 2 miles away in town. And I don't have to worry about bears destroying a tent (or me).
Self taught. I did attempt to learn engineering once at Brown university, but I was so far ahead of the professors that after a semester of wasting my time, I decided to do something else.
i like to hand peel oranges rather then cut them makes me feel like im doing some thing. and if im ever working with people i do it that way so they don't ask me to mob/pick up trash im like can't you see im doing some thing?
Are those vertical corner posts a proven design? I wonder if that's asking for a roof collapse at some point, too soon.

I think you need to use lag bolts, not those tiny little wood screws you are using.

Why is the Cabin that small
Whats the stirtigical advantage of having a cabin there, is it like a hunting cabin.
