Oh here's another interesting fact. When it was on Video, it was distributed by a Company owned by Dick Clark, The Host Of American Bandstand. Motown sued him feeling that they should get a percentage of the proftis since it featured performances by Motown Artists. They settled but it was kind of sad to know that Dick Clark out of all of the Old School TV Hosts did so much for Motown and he gets treated like that.
This was Actually released on my 3rd Birthday 7-26-1963 !!!! Maybe that's why I Like this Song so MUCH !!!! Great SOUNDS of TIMES Gone By !!!! JimeeJam41@Yahoo.com
The Smokey footage is taken from a 1965 BBC show called Ready, Steady, Go -- the UK version of American Bandstand. Dusty Springfield, a very good friend of Martha Reeves, invited the toupe to appear on the show. The bill included Springfield, The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, the Tempatations, the Vandellas, and the Supremes. Mickey's Monkey was the show's finale; all the acts were on stage dancing and the Supremes sang background in place of the Miracles who danced the Monkey behind Smokey.
the 1st. time that i saw this video a year ago there was no king kong idiocy. What is this, a throwback to steppin' fetchit, Buckwheat and Amos and Andy . M ocking Black People. You'd do better to leave the thing as it originally was.Vaudville, Blackfaced comedy is dead, leave it that way.

@07snooky The song is called Mickey's Monkey. Not every reference to apes is a slight against black people.
