  • Do you read the transcriptions in numbers like that? Is there some kind of legend to explain what each is?

  • 2:08 flamdiddles with double bass? what in the....

  • It's like he sets up his kit to best suit his style and maneuverability instead of just setting it up to look cool for the audience (which there is nothing wrong with that)

  • Is it a Pearl Reference brass snare 14x6,5 ? Just a wild guess :D

  • Wow your new TRX cymbals sound way better than these.

  • I've been trying to pick apart this song for months... I got the bass down. That's about it... 0:47 - 1:12 ... I say... its impossible! 2:16 - 2:28 ... I give up. 2:32 - 2:48 ... I've got the snare and bass only. Sigh... this song has been by far the most mechanically complicated thing I've ever even fathomed on drums.

  • 1:35 thats not possible.. it just isnt lol

  • @winnerbaby44 I didn't see what was impossible D:

  • you're great Travis ... you would make some new videos.

  • sooooo legit!

  • 1:16 "Why the hell am I not drumming right now?"

  • you sir, are a machine.. and i mean that in the best way possible (: haha that triplet pattern on the pedal at 2:07 - 2:11 is the BALLS. i know i'm not the only one, but your work amazes me without fail, everytime.

  • I love the drum sound and technique.

  • Are your eyes closed. If so do you find it easier to play the drums with your eyes closed rather than open?

  • 2:12 content eyebrow raise

  • Where can I get this version(with vocals) of that song?

  • @ComfyNumb1989 just search the fast ones periphery, you should find it easily on youtube

  • @DarthRoy1292 I can't find it with vocals. :(

  • @ComfyNumb1989 type in "the fast ones periphery" and its the first result

  • wait why was this guy kicked from periphery

  • @AndyAngelZ he wasn't kicked, he left

  • I prefer Matt Halpern, he plays more naturally with lots of groove and less robotic.

  • @jaydoode15 .....go to hell

  • @Shwasy your gay man, just look at your display picture HAHAHA gtfo

  • @jaydoode15 pretty rude to come to someone's video just to compare them negatively to another person....

  • @leekwesi no I'm just saying I prefer Matt Halpern, to each their own. I should be allowed to express my own opinions... go suck a dick

  • @jaydoode15 yeah, you're missing the point, and getting belligerent for no reason. completely unprovoked, with no argument already in place, you brought up something that was completely irrelevant to the video, and may have been hurtful to some, i.e you trolled. Travis wouldn't care about it in all likeliness since he knows he's a fucking beast, but obviously you're unable to express your opinions with any sense of etiquette. People don't make videos to be negatively compared to others....

  • @jaydoode15 Oh, and about the dick sucking.... I'll pass thanks.

  • @leekwesi You completey disregarded everything I said, proving that I am right. Please move on now.

  • @jaydoode15 let me put this in simpler terms, u can haz ur opinion nd say wht u want, just dnt be a douche nd troll. Especially when your opinion just doesn't matter

  • @leekwesi I can troll as I please, and maybe you do not value my opinion but maybe others do. Let me put this in "simpler" terms, I can say what I want, when I want, however I want to. I believe in freedom of speech. And so I say, go gargle on hot salty siemen!

  • Such a sexy man.

  • PEARL EXR :D i got the same one, Orbinator!

  • what kind of cymbal is he using at 2:00 ?...i love it!

  • whats up man. this is good stuff. how are u doing that at 1:35 with your right hand? i could never figure it out..thanks due

  • How the hell can you use your dubble kick AND your hihat? :) You have like 3 feet or something?

  • your absolutely amaazing! buddy!

  • i never thought of putting those types of pedal sideways >.<

i learn something new each time i watch one of your videos.

you have got to be one of the most difficult drummers to impersonate... i assume.

im about 50 years too early to even attempt your simplest parts.

  • i love you man.!>!!

  • ...good god, i just erupted in laughter....LMFAO. so true btw. fuckin shaftninja indeed, keep up the amazing work travis! \m/

  • Travis. Your playing has a ridiculous amount of groove in it. I've seen most of your videos but theres some fills on this video that are really, really good. Amazing job.

  • I would love to see you part from the Periphery's "light" that you did! so much better than matt halperns. Even if you just have to transcription that would be awesome and i'd love to see it if you would like to give me a link :)

  • Dude. u r sick as fuck.

are you able to lead with both feet and hands?

    thats crazy.

  • me and him play exacly alike slave pedl lead opend arm playing FTW WOOOT =D

  • @aec300 show us ;)

  • @shaftninja couldn't help but wonder if you're reading a notated score here in the video. If so, is it notated or tabbed?

  • @tESsEarthSnake Check the description.

  • DOOD YOU SUCK! I CANT EVEN PLAY WITH MYSELF THAT WELL. GOD DAMN, TIME FOR SOME MORE LESSONS.

  • ambidextrious by any chance? i noticed you use left OR right foot on the kick.

  • why u holding sticks from the middle and hand like that?

  • Dude you are such a freaken beast man (:

  • Dear mr Orbin..may i ask if you give lessons?...amd btw.Left foot lead?

  • Dear mr Orbin..may i ask if you give lessons?

  • love the 12/8 feel at 1:28

  • @OeeOO 28

  • Wait, so you were in periphery?

  • @ddaae3 yea, then he went to Sky Eats Airplane.

  • those bassworks at 2:08 were INSAANE

  • those cross overs at 2:23 damnnnn did you play tenors for a dumline ever?

  • What kind of pedals were you using in this video?

  • Matt has so much better of a groove than travis

  • Periphery... what an awesome band, but absolutely fucking NIGHTMARE on drums. I don't even dare to try 'cause I'd just get brain damage

  • How long have you been playing?

  • r u changing ur lead foot thru out the song

  • whoever coined the term "orbinated" deserves royalties.

  • So I assume that at about 2:04 you were switching your metronome to triplet mode for that brief foot-run? Man, I need that metronome b/c it makes those changes quick & easy, plus the inputs... It's an expensive one, though. Oh well - need it & juan it!!

  • @bseff1 Indeed!

  • @shaftninja What metronome do you use? and by the way your videos are amazing and your one of my biggest inspirations on drums! keep them coming

  • @bseff1 Which metronome is that? :)

  • @bseff1 Can you PLEASE tell me what the metronome he uses and the capabilities of it? The things he uses I didn't know even existed. Like it doesn't surprise I just didn't know they exist. I would LOVE to at the least figure out what he uses, maybe even get one for myself.

  • I think you need to work on limb independance.

  • This song is so amazing, I'm super bummed it won't ever be released.

  • 2:07 - 2:11

  • 2:08 - 2:11

  • This is one of my favorite travis orbin videos! He is by far one of the best drummers i have ever heard. If you do not agree then dont waste your time posting it, because you are obviously not a musician

  • I fucking love the raised eyebrow at 2:10 ! It's tooo epic! Travis, your awesome!

  • hey so can we get some more periphery play alongs? I vote your version of zyglerox, and light, and maybe unleash the pwniesn if you can do it

  • @behindthen0thing

I am with you! Watching Travis is inspiring and humbling. What an efficient drummer! I would love to see a playalong for Ow My Feelings.

  • Travis, if you ever do another periphery playalong please make it buttersnips i personally would love to see you play that as im sure many other wiould too! :)

  • has anyone else noticed he loses his tan the closer to his hands you look??? WTF?!?!

  • you are a drum lordddd

  • Nice playing mate. Check out our band 'Dreamscape measurement'.We have a couple clips up on youtube.I think you'd probably dig the stuff our drummer troy is playing.

  • Chuck norris checks under his bed for Travis Orbin every night.

  • @alexkills best comment ever

  • @alexkills win comment

  • @alexkills looooooooool, you're so right on that one :D Travis is sick!

  • man travis i have been wathing your drumming for a very long time now man and you are a very impressive drummer bro if you would would you plz check out my band minus divinity strain on myspace and tell me what you think thanks man later

  • omg this set up is fucking legit.

  • dude why are you soo good ..please come jam with me haha..please?

  • I have a question about your technique, or how you hold your stick. it seems like you grip the stick loosely but you have amazing control. Can you explain that??

  • Is this a Virgil Donati signature Crash on his left ?

  • It people like this that make me keep going. To bad and oddly enough I can't find dedicated people to make a band =/

  • left handed playing right handed set?

  • @beholdthebubbler Right handed, open stance.

  • Am Be Tex Tree Us!

  • You've given me new inspiration on how I write my drum tracks, samples and MIDI's for my compositions for my new band. thank you!

  • quality is epic

  • dude what band do you play in these days? if any?

  • glad to hear you and all the dudes of periphery are cool you were a sick drummer for them and made incredible contributions when you were with them

  • Dude, you are completely fucking amazing!

I'm a drummer too, and I got tired of all the same old way of playing drums on the metal genre, but the way you play and set your drums is really awsome, different from all the drummers that I had seen.

  • the kicks at 2:09 are verryy cool

  • you and alex ruddinger need to have a drum off.

  • hey travis,

what is that cymbal you're using?

it looks like a sabian stacked on something, or is it one peice?

btw, i fucking love your style!

  • watching you makes me cry

  • What triggers are you using?

  • yeah man its great you document your stuff, best way to learn and improve, props to you for sharing it-

  • Ah dude, brutal! Are you sight reading at the same time?

  • i fully enjoyed that .=]

  • is that weird vid for this up on youtube with the robots making out an official vid of any sorts? amazing drumming as usual tho haha

  • please cover Light!

  • what kind of china is that?

  • this percussionist wouldnt be done any justice putting him under any 'style' he speaks through his set

  • @vipfal i realize that but i am a "metal drummer" and totally into this style over the straight 4/4 speed of traditional metal and i was wondered that styles Travis incorporates so i could train my brain to think like he does rhythmically

  • Comment removed

  • what style of drummer would this be considered?

  • I would go to bars and hit on chicks, citing crazy left handed playing. IF I could play this good.

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can anyone tell me where to find peripherys album with casey sabol as a vocalist?

i just wanna compare to soleto

  • whoa that kick pattern at 2.09 is intense dude!!!

  • Wow... the more i watch orbin's video, the more i love him...

Such a precision in everything he plays... the groove at about 0:55 is fuckin' hard to figure out... all the ghost notes/soft rolls/double bass he adds to his very original grooves are mind blowing... He even try to move something at 2:13 and still plays flames on double bass like i'll never do...

Deep respect, no other words in mind at the moment

  • c'est magnifique!!!

  • jeez i play drums for over twelve years and i am not even close to your drumming ;(

  • the newest renditions of the periphery stuff just doesn't have the same groove as the old ones used to. i guess that was just the direction they wanted to take, though.

  • @soliddew I agree with u man. i definetly like the old periphery sound. the new stuff sounds...idk just not themselves yah know?

  • i would love to know why travis left periphery. although it has been a while since he has, he kills it, and i never knew why he left

  • because he Joined Sky Eats Airplane. he has a video of him learning their song "numbers" check it out.

  • 0:56 whoa!

  • Power snare?

  • those drums are professionally mic'd the sound so fuckin amazing. jelous man jelous

  • Is that sheet music in front of you trav? If so, what is it?

  • Yes, it's the transcript I believe... it's in the description box.

  • 2:07 ...jesus, I love the triple kicks on each foot. I mean, it's very John Bonham in an ambidextrous way... I think Virgil Donetti (sp?) does that stuff with his feet but... damn, you use it so tastefully. Good job, Travis.

  • Seriously, that really awed me too. LOVE it. I mean, yeah, Virgil does that kind of thing all the time, but this Travis uses that kind of stuff in a really clever and tasty way.

  • best sounding snare and toms ever

  • didnt know you were left handed

  • @FTFTV1 he is ambidextrous, he has a linear setup basically, so he can play the hats open handed right or left. Orbin is the biggest inspiration I have come across in a long long time. Haha

  • oh thats pretty bad ass. i actually didnt know who he was till he got in SEA and then I found out about periphery and I heard his old stuff and what Tosin said about the drum midis he made for Animals As Leaders and I knew right off the bat that this man is a monster from mars on drums. Im not a drummer but I started to play because of him

  • Misha programmed the drums and he said he programmed them as Matt Halpern was playing so generally like Matt's style. Matt Halpern was originally in AAL but went to Periphery. However I still think Travis Orbin is the superior drummer.

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx nope. Matt played the drum parts on a Roland kit running into Superior. The parts were all his, just the sounds were artificial.

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx for the album Periphery's drummer played on an electronic set

  • @snapascrew thats true he told me that. V drums with real cymbals mic'd

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx Who's AAL?

  • @skateslave360 Animals As Leaders,Tosin Abasi's solo project which was extended into a live line-up with Navene Koperweis on drums and Javier Reyes on 8 string guitar. Lovely guys all of them.

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx Actually Matt played through a Roland electronic kit which triggered S2.0 if I recall correctly (for the album at least).

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx the drums wernt programmed they were recorded by matt on an electric kit or something like that. i think what your talking about is his post about how he programmed buttersnips but im not sure what he means by that because ive definately seen many posts from him saying that matt played the album on an electric kit. i think they are both amazing drummers, and i dont think its fair to compare them as travis is more technical and somewhat robotic while matt more feel

  • @ChopatoothCOBHC

The drums on Periphery's debut were recorded by Matt Halpern on an electronic kit using Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.0 samples

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx with emphasis on "superior drummer". Sounds just like the program. Can be both a good or a bad thing.

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx was "superior drummer" meant as a pun? (: Great work travis!

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx Yeah he's more technical but also lot more cold, look at how Matt's playing you'll see and hear the groove and feel in ALL his plays :D

  • @skalmortis From watching his videos many, many times over, I have come to the conclusion that he plays more still than many drummers in order to be more precise and consistent. I have noticed that many drummers that really jam out have much more room for error.

  • @xTHURMANxMURMANx hmmm to say superior im not so sure... i think they are both amazing but it is more which style you like better?

  • I noticed that on this video, too!

  • Heh, he could be ambidextrous for all we know.

  • HOLY SHIT O.o

  • awesome!!

    really like your open-handed playing:D!

  • Is he reading those notes?

  • prolly reading a guitar chart

  • WTF @ 2:08 - 2:11!!!

  • i need to know, do you rehearse / record these songs with the tune and click in your phones or just the click?

  • damn how did you get this sound

  • is that a sabian HH raw bell dry ride? looks that way. if so, i have one as well and i love it. i know you play trx now, i'm thinking about trying a crash out but they're so difficult to find.

  • Fantastic playing Travis!

  • in this case i would agree on the term math metal..thou i hate the expression. it's art.

imo matt harpen is the right drummer for periphery and travis perfect for Sea.

  • best drum and bass (and guitar) part at 0:57

This is what happens when you amp up misery signals a few hundred times, and give them Autobots and Decepticons as instruments. I guess I'm looking at optimus prime right now haha.

As said before, you really do suit periphery rather than sky eats airplane, even though both are great bands. My friend told me that SEA is coming to Virginia the 17th... is this truth?

  • Best technical drummer I've ever heard. You are among the greats to be completely honest.

  • well done man!

  • I couldn't help but think Rise Against when I heard the vocals in this song.

  • sex

  • where do i get music from periphery?

  • @ameliorate2695

    rapidshare...torrents...youtube pages etc

    troll around it exits

  • You can also check out their Soundclick page, which has all their music... for free!
