  • Best Star Trek episode by FAR

  • Took me a minute to realize that no, nobody is going to move because yes, this is in fact a still picture.

  • I always get shivers when I hear this.

  • Because Seth Macfarlane exists I am here. Nice song

  • ST:TNG was the best 178 hour movie I've ever seen.

  • This was the BEST episode ever of STNG...

  • Keep up the good work, my captain!

  • so soothing. when im in a rotten mood i put this on and close my eyes and just listen

  • May star trek continue for ever, beauty like this should not be forgotten, would we forget Pavarotti or DaVinci ? no, so lets make sure that amazing stuff like this stays alive !

  • my fav in all the star trek in the world brings me to tears every time never be beaten xxxx

  • I cant beleave i have missed such an episode, good thing that i got to hear this sing in another episode, with Neela

  • Family Guy brought me here.

  • To this day, I still don't know what that song meant. All I know is that when I listened to it, I felt the worries and the anxieties of the world run like hens in an open field. It was like night and day, dancing in harmony with the stars, and the flute would lift our souls to heaven and back again.

And for the briefest of moments, every user on YouTube felt like free people.

  • i love that melody

  • This and "Tapestry" are my favorite"Star Trek" episodes. :)

  • @MeanMrsMustard9 love sound !

  • Best, episode, EVER.

  • @MrRobertSama i argee mate best ever what a tune loved it from day one best ever tune makes life worth living just to heard this xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • the world could use a Picard right now.

  • @TheBaconlaser There are lots of them but nobody listens.

  • @TheBaconlaser Don't anger the Picard!

  • I want this as a gift.......... put me in the survey

  • heavenly =)

  • @ franciweb, I don't suppose you could send me and Mp3 of this song, would you? I'd very much like to have it :)

  • YOu damn u i found it! It's the only OST for TNG available grr ok bye

  • Explain to me where I get this song? Also what I hate is at the ending of the episode you hear the tune take a deeper tone near the end, I love that part as they zoom off into space because it's so eerie and creepy like deep. To bad nobody else noticed it :P

  • Does anyone know what kind of flute that is?

  • @storytimeguitar its simluar to a tin or a penny whistle

  • @storytimeguitar The original was a custom drilled brass prop. You can find a similar one that looks close, and with a little modification, looks just like it. It's call an "Original Clarke tin whistle".

  • I watched ST TNG when I was a child and everytime I heard this music I remember the warm summer nights spent outside on my parents lawn as neighboors hanged out and sat on lawnchairs and chat about ones day or just talk past the hours after midnight. I would fairytail my mind away at the great void of space beyond me and see the vast twinkle of star light and the faint violet blue glow of our universe. Space was and still is the Final Frontier for all humans to one day discover. Beautiful.

  • obiwanobiwan13- Well framed sir!

  • It's all right, but could have used some cow bell

  • @Monkofmagnesia Haha!

  • A perfect example of why Star Trek: The Next Generation is perhaps the best TV show ever made. Nothing else addresses the human condition so profoundly. It's my comfort show. If I'm ever feeling down, watching an episode of TNG soothes like nothing else.

  • @Lilith1777 im with you there mate, if im ever down or sad i'll stick a good episode on and it always cheers me up

  • @Ingram124 I'll second that, or third it rather. TNG is television for the mind and soul. It's timeless and so much more brilliant than anything before or since.

    Yup.

  • @Lilith1777 Picard's brilliance is very soothing.

  • One of my all time favorite episodes. Got to watch this last week on SyFy channel. Wonderfully poetic episode. Just a great series overall. How this show not win more awards? Oh yeah, many are closed minded when it comes to science fiction.

  • My favorite epi of TNG _ O _

  • FLUTE SOLO.

  • Replay button abuse!

  • 7 people were crying so hard from overflowing with emotion they accidentally hit the dislike button

  • This music makes me think of Pokémon.

  • @andethan dont know where the heck that came from, but it's an awesome comment

  • In my list of perfect tunes!

  • THRUSTERS ON FULL.

  • @Arukarh

The future isn't for you sorry. If we can't figure it out now we can figure it out in the future, when we have proper technology. Scientific theories ftw.

    Magnets? How do they work?

    @Everyone else

Here's to the future! /raises glass

  • @bigsdiddy

    *clinks glass*

Humanity will prevail. Believing in inevitable destruction just feeds a self-fulfilling prophecy. Why not instead believe in the capacity of the human spirit to forever better our species? We are a unique species, in that we have the ability to direct our own future. With the right decisions, and belief in ourselves, we will touch the stars someday.

  • @Wibblywoo12345 *Thinks of the opening theme from ST: Enterprise seasons 1+2.... not the failified version from season 3.*

  • @Wibblywoo12345 If more people thought like you, the world would be a better place.

  • do they have sheet music for this??

  • this was a fake but if recore and mix what you talk about u make any one look crazy

  • beautiful tune

  • I used to hate star trek, the shere thought of it sickened me cause of its outright stupid and far fletched ideas of 'the future'...several components are outright not capable of happening.

Then I heard this...I got up from my chair and walked into the living room, my wife watching an episode with Picard playing this tune in the tunnels of the Enterprise with a Leutenant Commander.

I was so touched that I felt tears touch my cheeks.

Ever since then,Star Trek TNG is my favorite TV series

  • @Arukarh just out of curiosity, what parts sickened you?

  • @tvp900 If you read beyond the word "me" it pretty much explains itself.

  • @Arukarh i mean what do you think isn't capable of happening in the real future?

  • @tvp900 Lol well let's see...

Technically 'Warp' isn't possible with an 'engine'. I'm not gonna go into why cause it's just too complicated for youtubers, their brains would explode.

No 'shield' can hold out radiation.

The idea of 'phaser' has also been proven impossible...laser weapons? yes, phasers? no

Tricorders were actually attempted to be made, considering that the idea and technology needed to make one, is relatively simple, depite that, they didn't work either.

  • @tvp900 The Q are also just a way of letting the theists back in the 80s know that "Yes we have gods in this universe, aren't we cool?"

Photon Torpedoes? The idea itself is preposterous.

Geordi's viser is also a novelty. The human brain is not capable of seeing chemical reactions at an atomic level, the brain is simply not designed to do so.

  • @Arukarh So has the human brain been mapped 100%?, and if it has and this is the best humans can do, Then humans are obsolete.

  • @mizznaps Indeed they are. And humans are kidding themselves when we say "we have not even begun to understand our potential"...bullcrap, we've pretty much gotten as far as we can, and maybe just MAYBE there'd be more to find out, if not for the fact that we'll probably blow our own asses up in some pointless war based on greed and power, which will end up destroying us before our evolutionary point of perfection has been reached.

In essence: We are too fuckin smart for our own damn good.

  • @Arukarh

    Oh please shut up Catholic.

  • @imperialpod I'm atheist.

  • @Arukarh photon trops is an real idea the idea is that spliting of a proton or electoron would result in a massive expolsion.

  • @Arukarh almost as touching your story is alone ^_^ whilst listening to this music in the background, everything seems touching..

  • @Arukarh

That's why it's called Science FICTION.

  • There is only Captain I would serve under in all of Starfleet and you are listening to him right here.

  • I wonder who wrote this song? It's lovely! That is the best Star Trek episode ever, IMHO.

  • @thelisamannshow Hi there. The film composer Jay Chattaway wrote this stunningly beautiful piece of music.

  • Can anyone tell me where I can get this version? cause I got the 30th anniversary edition but its not the same version, any help? thank you!

  • These 7 people who click on DISLIKE button it must be something wrong with them.

  • @highlander2222222 Romulans.

  • Great tune!! Brings back some really good memories.

  • Family Guy: SHOW ME PICARD'S FLUTE!!!!

  • Wunderbar!

    ich wäre gerne dabei.........

  • Thank you :)

  • DIE BESTE FOLGE DIE ES JE GAB !!!

  • A Life to Remember

  • The piano part reminds me of FFX

  • This made me cry!!!!....the inner light was such a good episode...really makes you think about choices you make.

  • i want this on my ipod

  • i tough this one was going to be better....

  • a beautifully composed piece

  • Thanks. Beatiful music.

  • Haha family guy+Picard flute=win!

  • -Kirk was a fierce fighter and a fierce friend who had a bit of an eg, but would, and did, ANYTHING for his friends, King Arthur with his Knights

-Picard was a thoughtful man and had a truly beautiful mind, he could be distant, but truly loved his crew, Gandalf

-Sisko was a troubled man who meant well but had a fire of anger and so much responsibility, Achilles

-Janeway wanted her way as she believes it, she is right, regardless of means, Lady Macbeth

-Archer was an honest fool, Lennie

  • @obiwanobiwan13 probably very true...but wow what a nerd!

  • @obiwanobiwan13 by Lennie, do you mean from Of Mice and Men? if so, i don't understand how someone like that would ever be captain

  • @obiwanobiwan13

I know it's been a year... but I loved the comment, and not just because of the literary dig at Archer.

  • @obiwanobiwan13 Archer was an idealist rather than a fool. He was in it for the dream, reaching for the stars and striving for something better.

  • Picard is my best captain in the series :)

  • @Qwufi Spock played the Vulcan harp thing, at least on screen, in the Original Series. Last i recall he didn't when Captain of the Enterprise A in the movies.

  • Has ne1 been able to find this version?! if so let me know please!

  • One of the best TNG episodes, in my oppinion.

  • AyeOKnow, The episode was actually Season 5 near the end of the season. Extremely good piece though. Enjoyed hearing it in one of the later episodes as well.

  • I remember the first time i hear this song a long time ago :') i was like OMG QQ

  • An amazing piece of music! I would often hum this piece to myself not realising where I had heard it. I can only imagine I had seen this episode as a kid and 20 years on watching the episode again I realised how I knew it.

  • @wsokar me encanto leer tu comment, que sorprendente el modo en que la musica y StarTrek, puede quedarse dentro de nuestra alma...

  • @TomcatVF001 I definately agree with you on that one!!

  • hehe, good epi 7 song eh...verg good. Makes up happy.

  • so delightful Chief...

  • What type of flute is that? I really enjoy

the sound...thanks to anyone who answers this...

  • Look for Ressican Flute on Memory Alpha.

"The sound of the flute is closer to a tin whistle, but can be matched fairly well with the higher notes on the piccolo."

  • it's called a "Tin-Whistle"

easy to play hard to master

  • @PenultimateRun i pretty much died laughing when i heard that

  • such a wonder full job on playing this flute, the melody is very soft and nice .

  • I saw that, too :)

  • OMG I love this song I was looking for this Thank you so much!!!

  • Where can I find it please?! Or can u send it to me?!

  • Reminds me of the sound of an ocarina.

Beautiful just barely scratches how amazing this is.

  • Peter Griffin wanted this flute as a gift. Thank you Family Guy!

  • How many are here just because of that? Raise your hand in shame. I am.

  • It is in my will that this song be played at my funeral. It speaks to my heart.

  • Can anyone tell me if I can get this song as a ring-tone?

  • This is beautiful. I want the sheet music so bad now.

  • I couldn't even think of something to say that would do justice. Too lovely, maybe thats what took my breath.

  • does anyone know where i could get the sheet music for this? with or without the piano.

  • one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. Its odd but I can feel it down to my very soul.

  • the most touching song in the universe.... spreading peace and warmness throughout the dark nights and enlightens broken hearts... thank you for sharing the wonders of music with us... live long and prosper

  • That is quite possible the best version I have ever heard. Been looking all over for the full version with both instruments. God Bless You.

  • beautiful...

  • Not only does this piece of music define Star Trek and music but it defines life itself

  • It does sound like the essence of life itself. Good call!

This song sounds like both a birth and a death song. :/

And a little like the song from the fellowship of the rings.

  • Another reason why Picard is awesome

  • @Tacom4ster he's the only ST captain that plays his own instrument to my recollection, only lower ranked players do generally. Like Spock, Harry Kim, etc.

  • @Redcarpet01 Well, to be a nerd, Spock WAS a captain by the movies...

    But yeah...

  • The flute sold for something ridiculous at the Star Trek auction. Patrick Stewart mentioned that it didn't even play. LOL.

  • the (non-functional) prop ressikan flute sold for roughly $48,000 USD.

  • so that's how much it went for? wow, i wish i had that much money, but for a nonfunctional? not worth it in my opinion...

  • Were I a rich man I would have paid MORE than that for it.....does not matter if it played...part of something special

  • @jsgold2000 if i paid that much, or more, i would want it to be functional... but that's just me...

  • I understand....I would just want it since it was used in the show like some of the other props. Shame they did not use a working one

  • @Jshaw71 i wouldnt really care if it worked cuz that thing would be in a giant glass box case

  • @darkstarfear i et that, a lot of people feel that way, but i don't, oh well...

  • lol im happy i got an realtin whistle for only 10 euro´s xD and listen! it functions! and i just love playing it :) this is an beautyfull tune and realy easy to play ^^

  • uterly briliant !

  • such a beautiful piece. so very peaceful and calming.

  • troppo bella e nostalgica !

  • einfach nur genial ... macht aber etwas nachdenklich :(

  • Avete il MP3 per questa canzone?

  • do you have an mp3 of this song?

  • beautiful

  • Star Trek: TNG, Season 5,

Picard lays dying in Sick bay and during that time, Picard lives a life of a man on another world, another life time. There is where he not only gets the ressican flute, but also he plays for the first time, the song called "Inner Light." After Picard recovers from his ordeal, he not only realizes that he has the flute, but also gets to play that melody in not one, but two different episodes of the series.

    "Inner Light"

    "Lessons" Season 6

  • I thought he was just lay collapsed on the bridge? That's where he woke up.

  • corection he wasnt in sick bay in all this time he was on the bridge and part of the medical crew was send on the bridge with some of the equipment

  • Yeah and Riker said he was only out for like 5 minutes.

  • Wonderful song :)

Tying to learn how to play it on the ocarina.

  • Star Trek Next Generation vol. 4. You'll find it there.

  • Thanks! I appreciate it!

  • Where can I get an mp3 of this version?

  • This version can be found on the "Star Trek the Next Generation vol. 4," by Jerry Goldsmith and Jay Chattaway. I found it on amazon.

  • This is probably one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard

  • yeah

  • Agreed.

  • Well spoken.

  • gorgeous!

  • questo episodio sarà per sempre nel mio cuore

  • screw sheet music just go by ear

  • Fantastica!!! Sei Grande!!!!!!!!

  • MEAGA COOL :-))

  • Really great music, fits star trek great xD

  • Anyone know where to get sheet music for this?

  • Just put "trek inner light score" into google.

  • Everybody keeps saying that, but the only ones I see are for guitar and piano, and I'd assume most people want the sheet music for a tinwhistle (which is what this is played on).

I agree with Yiearkungfu... I don't think it exists. I've also looked and haven't found it anywhere.

  • Sorry about that. One trick is to get a midi file from the net and use Noteworthy Composer to write the score.

I also want to get the score for tin whistle now (ironic eh) so I'll probably end up writing it in Noteworthy Composer - it won't be very sophisticated though!

  • Well if you do get around to doing that I'd love to have a copy. I'm pretty sure the tin whistle used for this score is a simple Oak Classic in D keys. I happen to own one and would love to learn to play this.

  • This is simply the best piece of music ever written. The high notes pierce right into my soul and give me chills every time I listen.

  • I watched "Lessons" today. Watching "The Inner Light" was what drove me to be a musician. I have an arrangement of this piece that I am going to premier here in a few months. I enjoy the music so much.

  • this episode and lessons, are 2 of the most emotional of star trek history !!

  • that is what earth needs to do make some probe with all the info on earth and send it out in case something happens to earth at least someone would know about us

  • That has already been done, albeit in limited fashion.

Look up Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 on Wikipedia.

  • Yeah, they've already done that in the 70's. The Voyager probes (and to a lesser extent the Pioneer probe). Even though it's called Voyager, I hope Neelix or Kazon didn't find it. THAT would suck.

  • Love woodwind...thanks
