I saw two tornadoes right next to each other once in person in Central Illinois (road tripping from Ohio). We pulled into a gas station with a little convenience store, and the power went out. Alli- I get migraines just like you (nausea and life-fail included). My mom convinced me that I should ask a doctor about having a prescription for them (bc she gets them too). Best mom-influenced decision ever! I have a acute relief prescription now that I take when I feel a migraine coming on and it helps almost instantly and within 1/2 to 1hr I'm ready to tackle student life again (exams, beware.) You may feel silly but trust me, but migraines are one thing you shouldn't have to tough out.

I keep telling you....You need to try Divalproex. Its a medication I take to prevent migrains. I take two pills at bed time every night and i dont get migraines. I really think you should try them....the brand name is Depekote.

I definitely know what Alli is talking about with her migraines. I get them about once a week. I have prescription meds for it, and they work wonderfully. It's called imitrex. Otherwise I take excedrine for the "less bad" ones.

If all of that fails then puking is the only thing that helps.

Ice makes it worse for me. Heat helps a little bit.

One thing about headaches and migraines, they are usually due to dehydration, i used to have a lot of headaches and since I learned that ... They are all gone, same thing for curing them, if you have a headache due to hangover for example,try to drink something like 2litres of water and stay in the calm and darkness, it works for me, you should at least so give it a shot.

But talk to your doctor about Topomax, I'm on the generic brand of it and I haven't had a migraine for a couple years now. They used to effect my life SO badly because I got them a couple times a month and they were always SO bad, and now I'm 100% migraine free. They don't have any bad side effects except you kinda lose your appetite for a while at first. At least think about it?

Alli, I would go to your doctor and see if they would prescribe you some medicine like Rizatriptan. I have taken rizatriptan since i was about 11 because i also have frequent migraines. on the negative side of things, i would go to a neurologist to see that it isn't something major like a tumor just to be safe.

this doesnt get completely get rid of my migraine but it definitely helps!!! take a shower and get the water to as hot as you can possible stand it and make sure the lights are off. the steam and the heat relieves tension in your brain. another piece of advice is never put anything old on your head because it will constrict your brain and make it worst. i have migraines and i had one for 20 days straight i know your pain! i hope this helps i have more tips if that doesnt work!
