You said it your self, the suspect drove at the officer, therefore endangering the officers life and justifying his use of deadly force. Driving a car at an officer is exaclty the same as shooting at him, assault with a deadly weapon. Also, the suspect should not have been looking for a way out in the first place, he should have stoped when ordered to do so by the officer.

The shots fired references the Officer advising he discharged his weapon, not shots by the suspect. All due respect to your military service, that does not qualify you as an expert on law enforcement. If YOU listen to the tape again, he tells the other Officer's on scene specifically that the suspect tried to run him down.

You need to go to the link to the right of the video. It clearly shows his mental state one week before the shooting. Also there would have been another witness to what happened but dead kids cannot talk.

The law has almost nothing to do with right and wrong, it is merely a means to an end. The end being money/power. The police are clearly needed, and a vital asset. The officer "threatens" one of the men with his car as a means to escape the perceived danger. The men draw and fire killing the officer. Is it suddenly not right since one man has on different clothing? Are their intentions really that different?
LASTLY- It is very clear to me the officers life was not truly in danger at the time the man was shot. The vehicle was floored after the shootings and it then slammed into a house, due to the man being already dead. You said it your self, the suspect drove at the officer, therefore endangering the officers life and justifying his use of deadly force. Driving a car at an officer is exaclty the same as shooting at him, assault with a deadly weapon. The shots fired references the Officer advising he discharged his weapon, not shots by the suspect. All due respect to your military service, that does not qualify you as an expert on law enforcement. If YOU listen to the tape again, he tells the other Officer's on scene specifically that the suspect tried to run him down.

The vehicle was floored after the shootings and it then slammed into a house, due to the man being already dead. Yes he forced the situation by getting out of his car and into trunk for a weapon, had he taken cover as he was trained this would have turned out better. If you read the story it says the shooting was justified but the officer was shown to be in the wrong for continuing the pursuit when it was in violation of the policy regarding pursuits there is where the wrongful death award came from.

If the cops dont chase you then you wont need to speed from them will you? In Australia it is not legal for a cop to pursue a suspect in a vehicle if he/she is going above a certain speed, thus reduces the need of the suspect to go ridiculously fast.
