Not bad. Im just learning this on guitar. I dont sing, so maybe I shouldnt criticize and I suppose its grossly unfair to compare your voice to Jeffs. But for what its worth Jeff made all that effort look effortless. At times I felt this sounded strained. Still a good attempt. I also think theres a danger in trying to mimic someone elses voice. Youre damned if you get too close to the original and damned if you dont. Id try and find your own voice in their somewhere. Your effortless zone!
@outofslumber thanks for your comment, good critique helps growing up, so thank you for your suggestions! :) the fact i can reach those notes won't ever ever make me Jeff, EVER, but it's my voice! I discovered how to sing like that, it's my own responsibility not to imitate him and to push forward this peculiar style my way. I just took the way he sings and filtered it through my interpretation and under the influence of my musical knowledge.. do you really think he did all this without effort?
You seem a bit peeved at what I said. Despite your appearance of gratious acceptance of the critique, it comes through. Fair enough. I didnt expect you to like what I said. I'm also pretty sure I didnt say Jeff wasnt putting effort into it. YOU SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE?? You framed the argument in a way that was dishonest to re-enforce a point. I clearly said Jeff "made all that effort LOOK effortless." Should be sound not look but the meaning was clear!!
@outofslumber oh ok! I still put effort in it and it comes out, that's the difference. I'm sorry mate, but I din't mean to sound aggressive, maybe I misunderstood your opinion, what do you mean when you say "it is a danger to mimic someone else's voice"? I mean, a danger to what? You're right when you say that imitation is bad, I agree with you, I was just explaining my personal position and approach to what I do, I didn't mean to mislead the point.
Well, I dont sing. So maybe you shouldnt listen to me at all. I also didnt mean to get on your nerves. Its a good voice. but at times coming through that so much effort is going into it. Thats all I was trying to get across. That and in parts it "does" sound very similar to Jeff. About mimicing. Theres a term in CGI called the uncanney valley. Google that I think it translates to imitation. Please dont be offended Im just trying to convey some feelings.
@outofslumber do not worry friend, my nerves are fine ;) I understand what you're trying to say, I sound a bit strange and artificial, that's true, that's why I need more and more practice until I'll get MY own voice, that's just a path to follow for me. That's funny because these voices are all intertwined: think about Tom Yorke, Matthew Bellamy, Jeff and his father Tim, I love all of them, I try to study every detail of their way of singing, I'm curious about the targets I can reach.
Good work man!!!! That was amazing!!!!
