Thank you - I had no idea of how this song went but I've got the lyrics in front of me - I will try to do this song Sunday - it'll be fun and the school year is about to begin. Five stars for you ! -- Hank Hogan
omg, im 36 and when i was growing up my mam (who is not alive now) used to sing this to me every day. im soo glad you put this here. you sang it brilliantly, it took me back. None of my friends even know this song im just so happy its here. you sang it the way she did. thank you for that great memory to be brought back to me.x
Very nice playing, and beautiful voice. Two "constructive criticisms"... :-)
1. The lighting could be a little better.
2. Did you "correct" the grammar of the lyrics? In a few spots the lyrics differ from other versions, and while grammatically better, it caught me a little short to hear "new" words to an old favorite!
Still, a very nice rendition, and to sing and play simultaneously is impressive!
Thank you very much! I am glad to hear you liked it. As far as the lighting is concerned...yeah it wasn't that great. The lighting is better in some of my other videos. As to your second question, I didn't consciously "correct" the grammar, It came out as it came out :P Overall, the version that I sing in the video is the one that I was taught by Deirdre Scanlan, though I did listen to other versions while working up my arrangement.
yes I did. The harp in the video is one that I helped design to be more like the Irish Trad harps, so it is really nice to play. I still have the Janet though.
wondering!have you heard the Black family sing this song. That's where I first heard it from.Knows us Irish likes our potatoes. But whoever wrote this one must have been really poor.
yeah, I have heard their version. I watched it as a reference when I was doing my own arrangement.
I don't know a lot about the history of this song, but I would imagine that it was written by a person of humble means...as many Irish people were...but no one can say for sure. good song though!
Awesome!! I have to learn this song in Irish singing class.

Excellent job. Sure wish I could get an MP3 of this. We just had our traditional Samhain meal of corned beef and colcannon.
