@deadleader1 The inside is not painted so it can absorb moisture and condensation to help keep the bees dry.

They are just a liquid way to get the copper into the wood. They evaporate away in days. If you payed attention you would have seen the paint and beeswax coating shield. Watch better and pay attention.
