well there isnt much disconnect in my society. I'm Jamaican & u stand 2 get DISOWNED or totally RIDICULED or HURT in alot of instances if u r known to be gay.. The struggle with gaining a voice as a lesbian in the caribbean is a very REAL issue!
basically, you're saying that there is a lag in the intergenerational bonds. i agree. i believe the younger folk (post 1980) who do have that sign of respect for their elders, their community, and their bodies were lucky to connect with someone who cared enough to reach through the thick plates around their hearts and were blessed because they listened.
This was so honest and I can appreciate that. I had someone older tell me about the whole scene too and its very important. Times have changed big time but I still respect the old heads in all this. Its not a game and we all have to do our part!

And that is a shame onto itself. Our community (black gay community) should wake up. Diseases are real and they don't care about who you are; if someone has an illness and you're having unprotected sex with the individual, then you risk the high chances of contracting that illness.
