First heard this brilliant song played by Johnny Jason on Radio Caroline when she was bobbing up and down off the Essex coast. Great track, evokotive. The Orchestral bit at the end is awesome.
Such a great song, but the pictures shown here are everybody in Poco EXCEPT the guys singing this song!! That would be Paul Cotton on lead & Timothy B Schmit on chorus & back up vocal. This line up is Paul, Tim, Rusty & George.
This in my opinion could be made into a great truckin video. A big 18 hammerin through the rockies just rollin with close up shots and fade outs of road and terrain and then topping a big grade and a pull back shot as song fades out of it dissapearing into sunset
I love the harmonies, Timothy B Shmidt of the Eagles did some of the high part, it does give me goosebumps! But what is the Rose of Cimmaron? I get an image of a wagon train for some reason, pioneers on the prairie. that can't be it though. something about something waiting at his window, watching for them to come...yes the banjo at the end is cool
A fantastic song from an equally strong album, which I have and listen to regularly. This is one of the few songs that hits a certain pitch that makes tears well-up in my eyes and sends 'shivers' down my spine at the same time.An eternal classic.
Kudos for the best sound quality of all the versions I've had the pleasure of encountering on You Tube! IMO This is the ultimate Poco tune! So thanks catman916 for the upload and You Tube For the space!
I love these guys, they, like the Outlaws, the Marshall Tucker Band, the Pure Prairie League, and the Eagles reshaped, not Rock n' Roll but Country. Country music would not be anything like it is today without these guys. For better or for worse.
I first heard this song on AM radio in 1997 after dropping a GF permanently off at the airport in Australia; she was on her way to Toronto...this is the first time I've ever heard it since: THANKYOU! Wow, I can remember the drive home on the highway, the smell, the dark lights and just wow! THANKS!
i had the blessing to see them 9-28-09 they were great george grantham had a stroke on stage hes not dead he just cant perfrom but their new drummers a little off
@atgskater14 I saw them in September of 09, too...in Colorado. There was something magical about hearing "Colorado mountains I can hear see distant skies" in Colorado! :-)
It sure is a long ending and reminds me of the ending of "Lilly White" Cat Steven's great song from the album, Mona Bone Jakon. Are you familiar with it?
heard it on radio here, great song, we love it FINLAND :)

Rose of Cimmaron was a lady in the 1800's who took in outlaws, fed them and treated their wounds before sending them on their way.......

One of Poco's best.... such a sweet, graceful song... Beautiful backing harmonies .... brings back great memories from college, and the late 70's.
Thanks for posting kitty-Catman! Yours has the best sound of the studio version I've heard. I've still got the LP, but don't have my turntable!
