I give up. Where is Lonnie Mack's version of this song? I love the Ventures, but I have the single "Memphis" by Mack, which I learned to love, but I can't find it on Youtube. Any suggestions?
Great Chuck Berry tune by an equally great band, The Ventures, with Rick Derringer sitting in. The first rock n' roll song I learned to play on the guitar was "Walk Don't Run" they were a big influence on a lot of guitar bands. When I listen to the Allman Brothers "Ramblin' Man" and Duane Allman and Dickie Betts harmonize at the end of the song it reminds me of that Venture sound. Great video!
valuable vid, this. This would have been near the very end of the time that the classic "Ventures Four" (Wilson, Bogle, Edwards, Taylor) were still "the group".
Then, in the summer of '96, Mel Taylor got sick suddenly, and 11 days later, was dead of lung cancer. Even this late, the Ventures were still the tightest rock instrumental group ever. Thanks for posting!
Este video bien podría ser un homenaje a los que se nos adelantaron, Mel Taylor y Bob Bogle, ámbos magníficos músicos que han dejado una huella muy notoria en la música instrumental, ¡Bravo! y un gran aplauso a los que aun quedan..
I would love to jam with the boys, too.Saw them in Winnipeg recent and showed them my "57 Strat,,,even got the shaggy old case signed.Greatest band ever,,,,Period
They were great guitars but Nokie isn't playing a Mosrite. He has always been involved in the design of what he plays, whether it be a Carvin, Hitcher, or the Ventures Model Mosrite.
As far as his energy level, he doesn't have to jump around and grimace. He makes it look easy, and I think it is for him.
The guy on lead guitar shows as much energy as a gnat on a couch. But he sure can belt out some great guitar!!! Those Mosrites must be one hell of a guitar after all!!! 9988cancer
Nokie Edwards never showed much emotion while playing. He just plays and it sounds awesome. He's a throwback to the early days of R&R and Country. He can chicken pick with the best of them. He was my idol when I was a teenager trying to learn those great Ventures licks.
Nope.Chuck Berry wrote Memphis.Lonnie did an impromtu of it instrumentaly and it's been the milestone most pickers strive to get.Not many get it even close.Lonnie is the greatest. His 1st album is as awesome as anything out there.
It just doesn't get any better than this! They were recently inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame! They deserve it. Nokie Edwards - Lead, Don Wilson - Rhythm, Bob Bogle - Bass, Mel Taylor - Drums. I don't know who the guy with the hair and in red pants is. :-)
The guy that's singing looks a lot like Rick Derringer from the mcoys (hang on Sloopy) and the Edgar Winter group (Frankenstein) If it is, He looks pretty well preserved.

The pattern on singer's shirt is from Japan's military flag. He would be condemned if he wears it in the Orient.

He was also in The McCoys of Hang on Sloopy fame.

Kind of funny, I had a 1957 Les Paul (not custom, just Les Paul) sunburst, lefty. Like an idiot I sold it. It's neat that you kept yours, Wish I had
