my friend has his router downstairs and his xbox is upstairs, can he connect his laptop to the internet (network) and then connect his xbox to the laptop using a cable to get xbox live?
I as well have to give a negative feedback. A "hotspot" is different from "ad-hoc". One of the problems resulting from this is, that android systems cannot connect to ad-hoc networks.
Thx for sharing this Tip, I've been doing this ever since I work with wi-fi connection :P
Well As an update comment, I do have 2 Connections working on My Windows Vista Laptop and My Nokia E71, using another laptop with also Windows Vista as the Hotspot, :D
i tried that on a sony vaio windows 7 it has wifi and when i try to that it says (windows could not setup) i did it before and it worked now it doesnt work can anybody help me?
it's only an ad-hoc connection, it's better to use a software called "mhotspot" my Toshiba Thrive (Android 3.1) can easily connect to internet using my laptop
I have to agree with " it's not a hotspot" it's an Adhoc I came here because my DHD cannot connect to Adhoc I thought this is the solution.on Windows 7 there software to do that. I wonder if there is any equivalent on XP ?
I have windows xp, I did everything but I want to connect my iphone to wifi, I have laptop. it's not working, my iphone can't connect to the wifi connection that I made =( pls help
well i tried it a lot, i tried on window 7 , it finds the network but does not enable browsing the internet, you can try with android, let me know if it works , :)
1000 minus 1 more .... It doesn't work for me neither. I can connect to MY PC (laptop) via Wi-Fi, but that's al, I am not able to get to internet (like I do not have internet at all)
Sir, is this an actual wireless connection point or just an ad hoc? I want to set up a wireless connection for my PS3 without buying a wireless hub/router but unfortunately the PS3 does not allow the use of ad hoc networks. If all I can do is create an ad hoc network my linksy network card adapter isn't going to help me much with my ps3, sadly.
is there any way to do this on my desktop with wireless USB thingy to connect my nokia e63 and besides sharing internet connections i could share files? please answer! :P
Hmm, I haven't tried it yet. What confuses me the most was ad-hoc setting for windows. I think it should be set to infrastructure. Looks like this guy is MAC guy lol
hm, my itouch connected to it but when i open safari it says no connection to internet. I have a toshiba nb205 running windows xp. If anyone knows what's wrong let me know. Thanks. I also try the cnet troubleshooting.
hey will this work if im looking for an access point on my dsi..i have been trying to connect my dsi to internet for a long time ever since my internet on it stopped now i cant play some games online anymore
I'll have to disagree. What you've presented is not setting a computer as an Access Point. Having a computer as an Access Point implies having an infrastructure mode.
What you are presenting is Ad-Hoc mode. Is very different.
I'm telling this because we had an actual infrastructure configuration at home and the Android phone couldn't connect to it because it accepts to connect only to a infrastructure configuration and not to a ad-hoc network.
@wnydoron I didn't mean that it does not work ... I only told you that what you presented is how to create an Ad-Hoc network ( and share the Internet connection through that ) and not how to set a computer as an AP.
So...I only said that the name of your video is misleading for someone looking for seting their computer as an AP ( as I did :) )
PS: My last phrase was wrong .. I meant to said that we had an ad-hoc configuration at home to which the phone did not connect
@wnydoron The very valid point is that “access point” has a specific technical meaning that doesn’t apply to what you show in this video. When someone needs to create an actual access point, this procedure won’t do what they need.
Secondly, WEP has turned out to be no better than no encryption. You really should warn people that this encryption is trivially broken instead of giving them a false sense of security.
It is a good video except for those two issues, which you really ought to fix.
@wnydoron - "Access Point" and "Ad-Hoc" are very specific terms in the context of wireless networks. @adrianahava is correct in stating that your title is completely misleading. What you create here is an AD-HOC network and *is not* (currently) supported by Android OS 2.2, while detecting and connecting to an actual Access Point *is*.
@adrianahava Although this guy is talking about hot spot while being extremely hot, I can not get my android going on this. When Mac can do the broadcasting for everything with 3 clicks, I had to download Connectify and watch Flenard's funny videos. Now I get it going and had my Google Nexus S connected. The reception of Wi-fi for my phone is not good really, my flatmate downstairs got only 1 little dot of signal.
hi adrianhava, i tried hard to connect my android 2.2 version phone to the internet as the guy illustrated, but when search for wifi networks in range via android phone, it doesn't detects the network although the wireless icon shows on the task bar, then i added a new wifi network and gave the same name that i typed while making the wilreless connection in laptop, but it says OUT OF RANGE, what do i do? i need to do my final project in android development , please help me with this.
No brother, there is a software called Connectifiy that works on windows 7 and u can use your iphone and other window mobiles to connect to the internet via laptop wifi hotspot but android is lacking this feature.
@samadqurashi its not the problem of android, its of XP. And Wifi works fine on Windows7. how do i do this if i am using a computer that is running on a lan routered internet connection. My laptop is using the same internet connection (LAN) as my roomates?! So evertime i try it on XP it keeps saying some error?!
ok i have a prob...when i press the check box that says "Allow other network users to connect through computers internet connection" and then press OK ..... a error window pop up-----> "Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP adressthat is required for automatic IP adressing"......... any ideas why ?

I get to 1:29 on vista. And the ICS button is not there, I have spent hours researching why the button is not there, I done this before, ON THIS LAPTOP im on. I have checked allow ICS, button at that stage, I have created the Ad Hoc network, and then that button is not there. Anybody to help me, I would appreciate much, sorry about my grammer, im tired. :D
One thing mr whydron didnot explained was how to brigde the connection bt the local connection and the wireless network. coz i cannot get it rignt and as i click both to bridge connection i got an error which says ;' To create a network bridge, you must select two lan or high speed internet connections that are not being used by internet connection sharing.' i cannot understand what he is saying and due to that this whole process is not sucessful on xp but it works on vista and mac book .
Whenever I try to do it on my mom's vista; there is no "add wireless adhock network" button; and when I try it on my XP; there is no "wireleless connections"option.
I have a laptop and I wanna know if I have a vid. card, so I researched on Windows Help, It appears there that there's a Display Setting so I clicked it and clicked Advanced Setting and I was wondering if the ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics (on the Adapter tab) if that is my vid. card *shrug* sorry for the stupid question oh and I also wanna know how do I turn on/use a video card T_T I'm not good w/ this comp. things so PLS HELP ME!
Ok dude, first, yes. the ATI Radeon HD3200 is your graphics card (and a good one at that! All i have is two little AMD Turion 64 X2 processors and a NVIDIA GeForce 7150M/ nForce 630M graphics card!). Second, last time i checked, unless you have two graphics cards, i think they are permanantly on because you have to have a graphics card to even view images and videos period.
First of all user's that can't use it to WINSCP on their iPhone or Whatever ,they must first gave the Wireless Network Card an Ip Addres like 192.168.1.10 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and other fields leave blank ,next go to you're iPhone and chose you're PC or LapTop SSID and pres on iPhone the blue string (->) chose Static and write on you're iPhone and ip address like 192.168.1.50 with the same subnet mask leave Router Field Blank and have fun .
Im using windows vista and everytime i try to ad a ad-hoc network it lets me make a name and password but when i click next it says windows couldnt make hot spot. What do i do?
I have a slight problem. I'm in a student apartment/dorm so my internet connection is a network already, so when I try to forward the internet using the method you explained I get the following error message:
"An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled.
Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled.
A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing."
Fantastic, just what I was looking for, works a treat with my ipod touch in the car and mobile broadband connected to my laptop. Thanks for this I will have lots of usage for it
is it possible to do this without having a wired connection because i use my friends wireless internet and i want to connect my nintendo wii through my computer because otherwise my nintendo wont pick up the signal from my friends house because it is to distant so if i could use my laptop as an access point without a wired connection that would be brilliant?????!
This type of connection is not usualy refered to as ur laptop being a wireless access point... that involves a router. I too, like many others watched this video hoping to turn my laptop into an access point for use with my PSP. However a PSP needs a router or a PC coreectly setup to imitate a router (Infrastructure Mode).
Thank you so much man

I get to 1:29 on vista. And the ICS button is not there, I have spent hours researching why the button is not there, I done this before, ON THIS LAPTOP im on. I have checked allow ICS, button at that stage, I have created the Ad Hoc network, and then that button is not there. Anybody to help me, I would appreciate much, sorry about my grammer, im tired. :D

dude why isnt the "wireless networks" tab appearing? (i have windows xp)
jondawg123 2 years ago
One thing mr whydron didnot explained was how to brigde the connection bt the local connection and the wireless network. coz i cannot get it rignt and as i click both to bridge connection i got an error which says ;' To create a network bridge, you must select two lan or high speed internet connections that are not being used by internet connection sharing.' i cannot understand what he is saying and due to that this whole process is not sucessful on xp but it works on vista and mac book .

This is so stupid !
Whenever I try to do it on my mom's vista; there is no "add wireless adhock network" button; and when I try it on my XP; there is no "wireleless connections"option.

Just asking,,,
I have a laptop and I wanna know if I have a vid. card, so I researched on Windows Help, It appears there that there's a Display Setting so I clicked it and clicked Advanced Setting and I was wondering if the ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics (on the Adapter tab) if that is my vid. card *shrug* sorry for the stupid question oh and I also wanna know how do I turn on/use a video card T_T I'm not good w/ this comp. things so PLS HELP ME!
~Thanks =]
yeenara10 2 years ago

Is there a way around this problem?
Thx.

is it possible to do this without having a wired connection because i use my friends wireless internet and i want to connect my nintendo wii through my computer because otherwise my nintendo wont pick up the signal from my friends house because it is to distant so if i could use my laptop as an access point without a wired connection that would be brilliant?????!
snesppl 3 years ago
No, you must have an input of cable to output with wifi.
wnydoron 3 years ago
This type of connection is not usualy refered to as ur laptop being a wireless access point... that involves a router. I too, like many others watched this video hoping to turn my laptop into an access point for use with my PSP. However a PSP needs a router or a PC coreectly setup to imitate a router (Infrastructure Mode).
Ad Hoc networks will NOT work for PSP
