  • wow Drake's and his are so different...

  • when some of you realize that music (arts in general) is about feelings and not about consumption or who's got the better voice (and bring more cash to the music industry) ... the world is gonna be a better place !

till then listen to Mark Lanegan's version of this song ... (who the f*ck is Drake, anyway?)

and show some respect to Gil Scott Heron

    R.I.P

  • @gabriel72r Best comment so far!

  • @robpitzi ;)

  • @gabriel72r Yeah I can understand why you'd want to defend him his version is awesome and people shouldn't bash it, but as a counterpoint you said "music is about feelings" well what if the listeners who prefer drake's version emote and relate more to that version that Gil Scott Heron's. It's about both sides of the argument not being juvenile and respecting other people's tastes in music.

  • @darkknight187 i could agree with you, but there's a small difference... Drake and Rihanna are imposed to the masses by the music industry, while is up to you & me (& the few ones) to discover (and like or not) Gil Scott Heron !

i guess you have heard about tv's brain-washing ? (like a trashy song sounds like a divine melody if you heard it a million times) ok? ... then resist ! :)

  • this guy sounds like dmx

  • If Rappers These Days Didnt Sample Old Classics Like This......The Newer Generations Woulndnt Know Or Even Adknowledge It....

  • lol you do realize drake and rihanna didnt do shit though. it bugs me when artists rap over other people's songs. The rappers dont add anyhting to the music besides their lyrics. sure "good artists create, great artists steal" (i.e. everyone does it) and sure the lyrics might be sick. But it irritates me how many people listen to music based on reputation/coolness/popularity and not on the actual sound. Then it wouldnt take all of these rappers to enjoy the beat.

  • Thank God for Drake and Rihanna... They took this shitty version and made it worth listening to...

  • @BaCkWeRdZ I like Drake and Rihanna's version much better than this but I think your being a bit disrespectful, you do realize this guy is dead now? so I think you should take thing in to consideration before you start talking s****!! than

  • @TheAmyLooo People die... I didn't disrespect him... I said his song sucks and his voice was shitty... Dead or alive...

  • @BaCkWeRdZ Shitty? Wow, not at all.

  • @princemjforlife You guys respect him for his status. His voice is horrible. Off beat as well. If this exact song was put out by an unknown artist, nobody would give it a second of play. It's terrible. Nice lyrics; terrible delivery. Rihanna and Drake make it work.

  • @BaCkWeRdZ He's not a singer, he's a poet. He has soul. Rihanna and Drake just took the music from Jamie xx. I like both versions either way.

  • @princemjforlife I agree, I admire the lyrics. But as for a "song", it's horrible to me. Horrible voice. I am so glad Drake covered it so we could hear it in a good fashion!

  • @BaCkWeRdZ hey everyones entitled to their own opinion. But your just wrong

  • @MrHoneyloops No, it's an opinion, which by definition can never be right or wrong. Also, it's just a bad song with him singing it. IMO of course.

  • @BaCkWeRdZ you dont know what real music is and probably have no idea who this guy is and what he did for music

  • This is a classic drake/rhiannas version of this gave the new school techno sound to this

  • @wizkhalucas What are you talking about? It the artist Jamie, from the band "XX," who created the, as you call it, "the new techno sound"...smh.

Jamie XX even remixed Gil Scot Heron's voice onto the "techno beat" ONE YEAR BEFORE Drake and Rihanna released the copy of this song...

  • this is what real music is, this is a real musician something rare in today's time.

  • hes smoking ciga-weed

  • This is so good, love love love rihannas and drakes, but this is amazing.

  • Thumbs up if you were brought here because you had taste to begin with.

  • Real channel is DaSwatClan

  • Better than Drake's people check out my channel and drop a mother f'in sub

  • Originally I thought this track was written by Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart, so when I heard Drake and Rihanna had destroyed the song with a shit version, I wanted to see if the original writer was credited on Wikipedia... That's where I found out it's Gil Scott Heron's... Still needs more credit though, the real super-talent of today isn't appreciated as much as it deserves.

  • @JoeZeeDoyle Why would you talk shit about Drake and Rihannas version of the song? You know that eveyone has covered everyones song in the history of Music. And for you to say this is "shit" is saying everyone else is shit like Elvis, Bill Halie and etc. They covered other artists song and took a lot more credit. Its not uncommon to see this just enjoy this version while other people will enjoy Drake/rihannas version.

  • @JoeZeeDoyle I agree..When you start listening to real music it makes you really wonder how someone like Drake is so popular for what he does..I'll admit there is some Drake that's alright when he sticks to himself, but if you're gonna sample a great, do it right.

  • r.i.p. gil scott hernon

  • lol fuck song

  • Sounds nothing like the drake version though :P

  • @Thomas290592

Just to let you know isn't even the original recording. This is a redo for the newest album.

Figured I'd let you know so your musical horizons could expand further.

  • Awful voice

  • @MrDoddseyy AWEFUL taste. This man is classic. The words, the feeling coming through in the music. Don't get caught up in the one "flaw." Do that... or go back to the music of today. Pop, industry rules, meaningless junk.

  • @MrDoddseyy you're a piece of shit

  • Love this more than Rihannas .

  • I didn't know there was another version of this song and frankly I will avoid hearing it because this is perfect. But if you heard this version because of those remixes it's a good thing, at least people are searching the originals out. :)

  • thumbs up if Jamie XX brought you here.

  • Your mom cares

  • who the fuck cares which version is better? there's enough for everbody so enjoy the music.. drake did a huge thing out of this btw

  • I personally love all 3 versions of this song. Including Drake and Rihanna's version. But what I can't stand is Drake and Rihanna fans saying Gill Scott-Heron's version is terrible. They are all brilliant in there own different ways!

  • also SAMPLING is a part of music...has always been...doing covers as well...many many many of Elvis' songs were covers...MIchael Jackson and the Jackson Five......COVERS as well,....people are allowed to sample...it's the freedom of expression of this art form...let's not take music so seriously..it shouldn't anger us...it is only meant to uplift and make us feel good...Your favorite musician right now has sampled SOMEONE ELSE's song....remember that!

  • ...come on people, relax..it is MUSIC...just because Drake and Rihanna's song BROUGHT them here, they should not be badgered for it...what sense does that make? The person obviously took the time to dig and LISTEN to where the original came from...we do not all have the same taste of music, and we were not all born in the same time, remember that..at least he person came here, is the point!! PERIOD! let's not be so quick to persecute someone for LEARNING...give them a chance. Take Care, ya'll!!

  • shortest 3 minutes of my life. can't get enough.

  • This Song's better than Drake's!!!

  • @1:52 "eyes" = that recognizable echo

  • i started listening to Gil only due to the fact that he recently died RIP, im not interested in petty mainstream music, Gil was the pioneer of Hip-Hop music (the hip-hop from the ppl for the ppl, no commercial bullshit)

  • Drak and ri didnt cover shit, jamie XX remixed it, and then they sampled the remix.

  • Damn new "artists" stealin old great music. Fuckers

  • @DanielWadePhillips its not that old really.

  • @starrykae that's the point!

  • There is open-minded and then there are people like Drake and whomever who don't at least give credit where credit is due...like how about them giving a shout to the original artist. The originals will always be the best, the most unique, and will never be able to be duplicated.

  • @LauraAlmostFunner jimi hendrix watchtower, Thats a cover but its sure as hell original and considered equal to dylans original. now while i Don't really like drake nor rihanna at all i would have to admit there cover of this song is not bad at all itsvery pleasant on the ears.

  • I honestly think that Drake & whomever else just wanted the message and moral of this song to be carried on. So quit saying he stole something, he's brought this song into modern terms so people could hear Gil scott-Heron's message. Be more open-minded people.

  • he died this year, probably cuz rihanna covered his song..damn shame

  • I love this. Say what you want about Drake and Rihanna, but they helped me to discover this amazing original.

  • producers sample songs to show where they get their inspiration from. it also brings artists from the past back to the current moment and lets the younger audience know what real music used to sound like and how we got to where it is today

  • so many people are sampling this song now its ridiculous -.- im not a huge fan of it

  • they straight up jacked the song

     im ashamed to say that

i didnt know until now but the only thing that was really

changed was the beat in the back drakes was more upbeat and gils is sadder

  • I like this one - I've come from hearing Florence and the Machine covering it (which TBH, although I'm a major league FATM fan, I'm not sure if I like, although it's miles better than either the Jamie xx version or the Drake/Rihanna version which just bore the hell out of me).

Nothing wrong with covering songs - its just that Jamie, drake (and maybe even Florence) just doesn't work....

  • Brook Benton must be given a lot of credit for writing such a beautiful, haunting song. Gil Scott-Heron's version truly captures the emotion of the song I think the best. Although Bobby Bland, the original performer of the song, did a wonderful job, too.

  • thatdudemcfly

  • who the fuck is Drake? This is the muthaphuckkin legend Gil Scott Heron

  • @Ultraliskification ok timeout Drake is one of the best rapers alive... watch what u say.

  • @toniko17 I guess you will say Lil Wayne is great too.

  • Comment removed

  • Jamie XX made a a good remix of a great song, Drake and Rihanna are hacks exploiting the death of a Legend.

  • enough about drake and "riri". Gil scott heron was one of the greatest

  • Hadnt heard this song before Drake and Rihanna done it....I now like Gil Scott Heron due to it ! Theres nothing wrong with modern artists sampling songs...It makes people like me realise that the originals are also good. Gil Scott-Heron / Drake / Rihanna / Jamie XX.....Thank You

  • @Thomas290592 i hear you man...amen....people act like it's a crime when others seak, find, and LEARN the origin of a song....smh

  • @Thomas290592 No, it makes you realize that the originals are original and better.

  • @Thomas290592 amen. so well said man, people need to chill with the 'drake stole this song' and shit.

  • @Thomas290592 Fyi in-case u didn't realize about 95% of mainstream songs on the radio and mtv are sampled songs from real Musicians who actually MAKE there OWN music.

  • @baker5561 Boo yaa!! Fuck these modern day indie hippy faggots!

  • love rihanna love drake love jamie xx. but this is where its at

  • drake should've sampled this version instead of Jamie XX's version . oh but i forgot , drake isnt REAL HIPHOP where he can sample real soul .

  • @Jiggidy22 he did sample this version.......dickhead..

  • @yejuan59 no dickhead . drake used jamie xx's version . 4O didnt remake it . he took the beat froim jamie xx .

  • thumbs up if Drake/Riri/Take Care brought you here (here to the soul)

  • @bumsenright If Rihanna brought you here, you better start listening to music instead of...

  • @bumsenright FUK YA DEY DID.... LMAO

  • drake knows good music

  • stop fuckin saying drake and rihanna ruined it. it's their own interpretation of this song. shut up you're no better.

  • raped by drake and rihanna :(

  • @Widarr Shut up.

  • OVOXO

  • @STONEBEADMAKER could not have said it better.

  • The Jamie XX Remix of this is amazing

  • @MsCalmbeforethestorm and i love how Jamie kept the sould of the song, rather than drowning and killing it with electronics

  • this is a cover right? heard this song before..

  • This never fails to touch me.

  • I'll Take Care of You was a Brook Benton song most famously done by blues great Bobby Blue Bland. Gil did the most moving version recorded, imho.

  • Watching a series of songs from different times in Gil's long career, it is so obvious how the genius manifests itself, and matures, even as the edge was dulled from the toxic effects of modernity, this mans brilliance and dignity shines through so brightly, as to break your heart. It really is an amazingly beautiful gift that he has left us with......drink it in deeply, we're gonna need that blessing real soon.........

  • This is a really, really good song. I just heard it. I heard it before, along with a load of other stuff, (125th and Lennox for example) but I'm hearing this now and that's all that matters.

  • @PeterStoreysbutler lool if that stops you from talking to me then yeah go for it (Y)

  • @aremu94 Don't bite love. And will you promise me that you won't be bitter because i'm a Gill Scott-Heron newbie? Hearing that obviously pains you which is heartwarming. I'd love to see what else you respond with but thus far your comebacks have been a bit rubbish in all honesty so I'll be off now. Long live new fans of this great music. Ta Ta!

  • @peterstoreybutler well done mate (Y) your so cool for that comment

  • @aremu94 Better to be cool then be an up their own arse twat I'd say. Which is obviously what you are pal. I'm going to go and listen to some GS-H who I only became aware of about 5 minutes ago. I hope you can sleep easy with that thought.

  • Why fight amongst yourselves, fight the Corps and Warmongers, then you would have understood Gill's work, his songs are an education.

  • Thank you Mulicik. I miss him much.

  • i hate the way people suddenly recognise how great Gil schott was after his death.majority of you guys aren't true fans, i don't care what anyone says.

  • @aremu94 it doenst matter new or old fan we are all lucky to be hearing this great music ima true fan of his work

  • @aremu94 you are a knob, and make me a better hater

  • @aremu94 But you are! Well fucking done!

  • @aremu94 I understand your grief, but go easy on his "new" fans. Many people may not have been born or were very young when Gil was at the height of his popularity, His songs back then are completely different from the ones on this album and are not played on radio stations . However his musical gifts are priceless no matter when or how you learn about him. Like he said "you may come full circle and be New Here Again". That exactly what Gil Scott-Heron has done.

  • @aremu94 Oh please, listen to yourself. Get off your high horse as stop being so sanctamonious you utter bellend.

  • thank you GSH

  • Peace to you brother

  • A beautiful soul who gave so much inspiration and commitment to empower Black people through his message, poetry, and music. We are standing on the shoulders of Gil-Scott Heron and past Black leaders, and I hope that Black people will wake up and not let Gill Scott Heron's legacy be in vain.

  • @mossyboy33 I can't believe hes dead

  • when i first listened to this,i was thinking about my girl(i sometimes think she doesn't like me),it almost made me cry,and the sadness inspired me to compromise on the harmonica, and the tune of my song far surpassed everything i ever did...long live Gil Scott

  • So good!

  • Best version I've heard of this classic Brook Benton's song, since Mark Lanegan.

  • priceless slip for BAT

  • @kdtheballa...um yes it is sweetie, i'm listening to Bobby's rendition now, lyrics are the same, title is the same, arrangements vary a little, but it's the same song sugar, apology accepted young 1...you don't know music, if you did, you would not have gone there, you should have done the intelligent thing, research, fyi, never debate with a music aficionado...peace and enjoy

  • nice tone powerful song this is just fantastic!

  • I've been struggling to find time to listen to this album, granted that it has been out since February. Now, after a much too long delay, I have finally ordered the album. This was the first track that I have listened to and oh-my! The shivers are there, the shivers are there, Gil has still got it.

  • a Bobby Blue Bland cover, but GSH made it his own...

  • @englishmajor43 A lot of blues rips sound similar. But no this a isn't bobby blue bland cover i'm sorry

  • @kdtheballa Yes it's a cover, the original is right here on youtube, look it up.

  • Thank you Gil

  • been looking for soul music again.... I found soul music .. again

  • Beautiful song. One of the best I've heard in a long time. There's more soul here than in most of the drek that's been released in the last decade.

  • Brought me to tears this song first time I heard it. I love this song!

  • I became emotional when I heard this song for the first time because I was sat next to my past that I wish was my future.

  • BOBBY BLU BLAND SANG IT BETTER

  • This is a remake of ETTA JAMES song...This is much shorter than hers tho.

  • i love gil scott heron !

    I LOVE GIL SCOTT HERON ! ! !

  • I wish this song were longer..... getting tired of clicking replay.

  • @onaja1 Me too. Turns out someone else has thought of it first; if you add the word 'repeat' in the url just after the word 'youtube' you can watch any youtube vid on repeat. Awesome for background music, I always use it for rain tracks. :)

I'm new to GSH, and I think I'm in love... integrity and soul (per)sonified.

  • @onaja1

    1. Install Google Chrome

    2. Download Youtube auto-looper plugin

    3. ???

    4. Profit!

  • Born in 1985.... I was taken to see Gil Scott-Heron at the Tin Angel here in Philadelphia recently. O my word, I have a new found love for music and poetry, he is so soulful, and humble, and talented and genuine to his work. This new genre of music has no idea....

    -Your newest fan Gil

  • saw gil at summerstage/ central park today. delightfully surprised to hear mr scott heron present this song. been listening to mark lanegan sing it for a few years now. totally dig this version. it's gritty, in a good way.

  • it is amazing...hope youll be touring true europe, im proud planet has such special person as you are...so much pain and emotions in your voice and yet so much strenght and care... wish you all the best ***

  • stick your neck back up your ass, maybe you'll find some grammar there. . .

  • @giraffeSHlT There is no adjective in the terrible sentence fragment. You're an asshole because you attacked someone else for no reason. People like you bring down the world. Kill yourself!
