years ago you wouldn't be seen dead on a poxy 125 after passing your test, nowadays I reckon most CGs are bought by 40+ riders who are out for revenge on the system having had enough of the rip off price of parking, petrol, road tax, etc etc. Who cares if it won't go fast, been there done it in the golden era b4 gatsos
@barnbersonol they are economical to operate and in town there's not really much reason to have anything more powerful. If I was only thinking of convenience I'd probably have a 125+ scooter but I believe that CV Transmission is less reliable. I try not to worry about whether or not I look cool. I know I am incapable of looking cool so really there's not point in spending money to try and avoid it :-)
Yeah i've thought about scooters, but having a car as well i just want something fun to ride to get me on my way to getting a bigger bike once I've done my full bike test :-)
@t43562 I had a CG125 and it was the worst bike I had. Honest. The build quality was horrendous and the reliability was okay until it rained, then it would misfire and cut-out. I was late for work many times. I tried everything to cure it such as WD40 and renewing the HT lead and coil etc. The handling was dreadful and didn't give me much confidence as I always thought the bike wanted to slide out beneath me. My Yamaha T80 handles better! The CG was such a disappointment, I had to let it go.
@1100HondaCB I live in London and ride in the Rain a lot. My CG-125 has been bullet proof. All I can say is that there isn't anything out there which doesn't have a bad story. I only have good ones about the CGs that I have owned or ridden. It would be interesting to know where it was assembled (Brazil for me) and what year.
@t43562 My one was an early Brazil model and the build quality was aweful. However, the later ones, also made in Brazil were improved a lot. The early Japanese built ones were the better ones, but it went down hill a bit when production first shifted to Brazil in 1985. The later ones 1998 onwards were much better than my version. My one did fair quite well as it done 60000 miles when I sold it and it was still going strong. Just a shame about the quality. The handling was rubbish to be fair.
I rode big powerful bikes in the eighties and rode like a nut everywhere, never got stopped. Then in 2003 I bought a little CG for work and within days got nabbed doing 40 in a thirty .......! Welcome to the bloody 21st century
@jargen07 my bike jacket has an inner zip (waterproof) and and outer zip (strong). I put a short tripod on the camera - about 7cm (one of those ones with 3 bendy legs) and with the tripod legs together I put the tripod between into the tunnel made by the inner and outer zip of the jacket. I had it at chest level. I also had the cord around my neck.
Love this vid man!... i'd love to get back on mine they was super cool, i had electric start which was sweet in the winter when leg muscles just wasnt so energetic if you all know what i mean :)
i used to ride in every weather and used to get about 300 miles out the tank load.. great vid and if you do a vid pap the horn please.. i beleive that got their own indvidual pap noise
Thanks :-) Ok - next time I'll toot the horn. :-) Know what you mean about starters - allowed my battery to discharge once (needed a new one) and running up and down with full gear and rucksack on to push start it was pretty harsh exercise.
I partly agree. I had an adrenaline rush like nothing on earth when I had to collect it and ride it back along the A13 into London. It was exciting for a while after that but then you just calm down and get used to it.
I am doing my test tomorrow on a bigger bike and it seemed exciting for the first 2 days but I know it won't last.
So I see the first one as just a step - and even the next and the next. No need to worry too much what it is as long as you don't pay too much and it works.
Well i went for the 2007 Cg-125 because of the simplistic nature of it, and its Honda, i've managed 120.3MPG (with mostly town riding and a handfull of dual carriageway runs) compared to the YBR which does 60-80mpg.I've made a screen for mine, kinda a 'bikini' screen instead of a full size one, and top speed is about 10% increased, so against strong wind 50mph is now 55mph, and normal conditions its up from 62-ish mph to 68-70mph. All thanks to a home made screen.
How does the Honda CG125 compare to the Yamaha YBR 125? I've read umpteen reviews and can't find a lot between them. I still can't decide which to buy. Anyone in the know? Thanks :)
you can't fail a CBT. but good choice on the honda CG for a first bike - bullet proof engine and will never let ya down. DONT buy a 2 stroke like most young lads do - their shit
I was 17 not that long ago and ive finally got enough money for a brand new bike!! i am seriously considering getting a cg because all the reviews ive read say it's amazing!! i was just wondering though i am 6ft3 and if it would look out of proportion? and if any other bike would be better suited? and what the top end speed of the cg is?
My brother looks fine on mine - he is only 6" so YMMV. CGs are not that powerful - I can manage 50 comfortably and a bit more on a long straight.
I got a new bike but I still have my CG and I appreciate its good qualities nore now that I realise what they are. I feel balanced on it. Gear changes are smooth. Its steering is "viceless".
Consider a good second hand one - it won't be the last bike you buy and you should really be saving for the second one. :-)
thanks a lot, yeah i was only going to have it for a short period of time then sell it for a bigger one OR i was thinking on getting it brand new then it would last me through uni and still have warrenty and stuff like that
belter i have a 1996 CG and works perfectly except one little problem the carbs keeps overflowing and cant figure it out but oh well iv passed my test on the 125 at 18 and have a suzuki GS500 to get restricted woohoo :D
Dude you really spoiled it bu adding music, if people want to listen to music while watching videos they will put there own on, people watch these videos to see the bikes speed and to hear the engine noise.
I don't have a fancy microphone so wind messes up the sound anyway. With noise reduction software and music you can make that less noticeable. You can still hear the engine, and I like the music and it's my video so there.
Hi i used to have a cg but got stolen - it was an old one anyway - now im 21, and seriously looking at buying a cg again ( i need it for work as parking in a car is a NIGHT MARE and it would be so easy to get home) - but its either a cg or a honda xr125 for those who are thinking of getting a cg and not sure - a brand new cg = 2k - and that bike could potentially last you for 15 yrs if not more - so cheap to run, so reliable, fun to ride - they are GREAT bikes - honda is the way to go
I love my CG, it may be older than me but it's a pleasure to drive.

Is it pretty easy to ride?

@633Ziggy Yes it is lovvely o ride :-). Scooters are *much* easier than geared bikes though so consider one of them - quite fun to ride too.

Nice video. 8-D
I own a CG too 1998 with a LEG operated start mechanism only -- never a problem though.
First time.. everytime. Even once when the bike was covered with four inches of snow! hehe
Hooray for the mastery that is the Honda CG!!!
(For those people that don't know) The song is the very London appropriate: Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - Make Me Smile (Come Up & See Me).
Ride safe and keep 'em rolling people! :-)

i had a cash on my rs125 last friday lol
it was the other driver's fault so i was allowed a courtesy bike.
and guess what...
...its a CG lmao
i took it for a ride before and was amazed at how slow the thing was and how when i nailed it with head down i managed 68mph lol
that doesnt mean i didnt have a bit of fun on it though, i wheelied it constantly because its just so easy lol

If you have a good budget and dont mind spending more on running costs then for pity's sake get a 2stroke lol
The CG is great as a cheap, smart way of getting around but as owner will agree with me it won't give you an adrenalin rush

I appreciate the good build quality and efficiency of this bike but seriously GTFO andy
2-strokes are magical bikes and a dying breed and any experienced biker you will find agrees.
I have an RS125 and although it's expensive to run (40-50mpg) it is THE most fun 125 out there
