You can actually pull the metal strip out of the bill. It doesn't mean the bill's counterfeit. It means someone was being a wiseass like me and pulled the strip out. Just pry the paper apart at the top of the strip and you'll be able to pull it out.

Bank of America gave me a fake 100 dollar bill when I cashed a check. Not only do they refuse to help me (sending it to the government and getting nothing in return), but they refuse to admit that this could have possibly or EVER have happened.

I've heard of that happening. Bank's should compensate their customers. It was their fault that they let these fake bills get by them. Of course that won't happen since that would mean one less rolls-royce for those corporate big wigs.

I received money in the mail from a radio ratings company, my husband an I wondering if it was counterfeit after some of the ink came off onto the letter that was sent along with it. We tried the trick with the magnet, it did move a little, then we tried shinning a flashlight on the strip inside the bill but it did not glow. Could this bill be fake? Thanks

Hmm, I'm not sure, how old is the bill? What is the denomination? Have you tried the coat scratch trick? I'd say the best bet is to go to a nearby bank and let them run it through their security checker to verify it's authenticity. If it comes up as being a fake, make sure to let them know where you received the bill from so that they can track it.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I would keep any contact info that you received from these guys, as well as remembering what they looked like/what they were wearing, just in case you got burned (you might also be able to track them down with your phone's gps functions). Go to your local bank/police dept., and have them check the bill out. Looking at the whole bill, does it look blurry?

I was like omg caz it felt wierd. n it had the bleeding on the other side. but I tryd the jacket trick, where u scratch it n see if it has little bumps or w.e n it did so idk. i think its real.

You have to watch out cause they can bleach the bill. For example, they can easily turn a 5 dollar into a 100 dollar bill (you'll have to hold it to a light to see if the portrait matches up). You should be fine, but I can't say for sure (I don't have a 100 dollar bill handy atm ;_;). Although, I believe the bleaching will wipe out the ridges on the coat, but I'm not sure on that (best bet would be to check it with the bank/cops so that you don't get caught passing a fake).

I remember I had to go through this lesson during cashier training back then. To this day I never encountered any fakes, but I have seen others spot them.

Sometimes the person who paid with a fake, really doesn't know that it's a fake, Hence the reason of having a yard sale, and someone paid him fake mone. The person was pissed, and I think called the police after the cashier told him that most of his money was fake. He was pissed !

I don't think I have ever encountered a fake. Last year I saw a clerk spot a fake some guy gave her. He asked him if he knew it was a fake. He told her no. Then he had to pay with legit bills on the spot. My guess is fakes do not circulate for long. They get weeded out pretty fast.
