  • lol in the beginning. " i can beleive i can fly!" that was the first thing that came into my mind when i saw it

  • LOCUSTS?!? WHERE'S MARCUS FENIX?!?

  • 1-AWESOME 2-i wonder if a clockwork version could be made? like windup or something....

  • Jump Jet Anyone?

  • you should use it to scare the shit out of little girls

  • wonder what happen if somebody rides on that thing and it landed like the grasshopper

  • locust? i think you mean grasshopper

  • too bad if it was built bigger and used in a craft for humans it would probably create too much G forces just from the take off wouldn't it? thats why we have planes and helicopters that take off slowly

i mean the sudden acceleration straight up against gravity seems too harsh if proportion to something that can support launch us

but w/e i could be waaaayyyyy off

  • Just imagine that shit jumping in your face.

  • lol its like- wait for it..wait for it..oh, oh ,oh here i-here i go! yes! im free!! ooh la la, the ceiling looks marvelous from this angle!

  • They should use this technology on those insect robots they're developing for the military that are made to fly to a destination and land with folding wings... currently, they can only take off again by jumping from a tall place. This could eliminate that necessity... imagine the possibilities!

  • Nice mechanism ,but hard to implement on "real" robot :/

  • I wonder how strong a spring it would take to get a human off the ground...

  • Put a pair of wings on it!

  • yeap, it self-destroys

  • It doesn't land on its feet after jumping. its nothing but a toy

  • Very nice. And not much less intelligent than a locust. ;-)

  • jumping does not equal intelligence

  • put a paracute on it !

  • prolly super-glue a big one on a Jump-Jet ?

    lol jk ahha

  • I want a wind-up one

  • some say its pointless. I believe it was a job well done. fair play, he/she wanted to do something and did it.

  • does it land

  • Doesn't seem so useless, kept me entertained for a bit. That's something.

  • and the point of this is that humans are forever making useless things

  • Some things we make sometimes look pointless but it also happens that such things actually lead to new discoveries, you never know. And then of course life would be boring without those useless things that provide us fun every day.

  • Useless? This can be used for military and emergency purposes and whatnot.

You're not really looking into it. Things like this give potential to future robots.

  • screw the military. it could be used in making civilian jump suits. so people can jump super high and far. all they need to do is figure out how you could land without getting hurt. looks like it jumps 100 times its height. imagine jumping 500-600 feet!

  • yeah, seeming you survive the 30 gs of the near instant acceleration

  • like pants

  • not useless. pointless, maybe

  • Ya.. and I think your parents have it down to a fine art.

  • i lol'd at the bug jumping like a retard

  • locusts are cheaper

  • I thought i would see an locust robot from gears of war :S

  • woah! it's like you see it, it winds down, and POW! you can't see it unless the world is in slow motion!

  • Neo can :p

  • you could make a new type of bouncing betty landmine. Insect mines.

  • Very cool, but does the little guy survive his landings well?

  • but does it survive the landing fairly well? As high as it went and hitting a solid suface it think it might break or something.

It'd be cool to have.... as long as you don't have it land on concrete all the time.

  • ehhee 0:04 BANZAAII!!

  • increible!!!!!!

  • i'd be afraid i'd lose the little thing!

  • that thing is useful how?

  • there are lots of things that are invented way before anyone knows what to do with them.

  • now i need a hotdog and a ziploc baggy of cheese wiz!

  • This would be a great system to get things airborne for a glider as long as it had a way to stabilize itself once in air.

  • wah

  • cool

  • Does anyone else see Richard Nixon's face during frames 2:15 thru 2:20?

  • Haha, I see him!

  • Holy crap that cool!

    *****

  • Sucks foro him if he doesn't catch it on the way down.

  • you should sell that as one of those toys that your mum warned you would av your eye it with....brilliant

  • now it just needs some sort of way to land or to recover after landing, it's cute though

  • I didn't see it landing..

  • Maybe it doesn't land.

  • Man this video was FUNNY!!!!

  • a smart design, pretty dumb locust

  • awesome design... can this design be made with lego mindstorms?

  • 0:05 - wt..? locust jumps on its back?

  • HAHAHA

  • man that thing can jump

  • classic example of "now you see it, now you don't"

  • Simple. I like it. Not that this means much.

  • Ok, It jumps up, THEN WHAT?

it falls on it head and well..doing nothing?

    *sucked*

  • o my god u r such a moron. Glad not too many people like u in the world. The purpose of this isnt to make it look cool or just a toy for you to play with u idiot. It is much more monumental than that. The very idea that someone came up with the possibilty of aping something that happens in nature so beautifully is what is amazing. This idea could be taken to so many different levels. Its a breakthrough in science. Aaah but being the humongous idiot you are I'm sure you wouldn't underdstand that.

  • "a breakthrough in science"-perhaps you're over egging it somewhat.

Try doing a search for "bigdog"

  • Wow this video is the best!!! i want more

  • 2:10... aouch!

  • actually if you look closer the Locust actually jumped, went upside down and then flipped around mid air on the way down and then the logical conclusion would be that it landed on it's feet. When they design something that can do that, then I'll be impressed!

  • good robot

  • Or, they could of course make larger versions in which one could go on each leg and... well, u can see were i'm going with this

  • . . .. . . . . BOOO wth man. =/

  • i wonder if man can come up with anything orrigional instead of copying something they see in nature.... not likely! We are such copy cats LOL

  • It just needs anymore a way to land on its feet or pull itself up, a miniature camera and radio connection to hivemind central A.I that directs it and thoe could be released in swarms to hunt down hiding enemies in jungles and missing people in forests.

  • Hey GerbilGod do you know how i could get four of those legs...

I Have A Project that has a running budget of $200,000.00 and i really could use some contact info from these guys

    THANK YOU
