wooah have you though of going natural hunnie trust me its not that bad once you do ur research im just giving an opinion no offence but you seem to be really damaging ur hair in that video if u use a water soluable styling cream instead of grease your hair will be less damaged as grease +heat = frying just like when we fry eggs your frying ur hair hunnie im just trying to give sometips
u r so right about grease! i hate grease! that's why i only use oil or oil based products both w/ and w/o applying heat to my hair. oil is lighter, makes your hair look lighter therefore allowing it to flow free, and it locks in moisture longer....but hey...u know how some ppl r after they've done something for so long they don't like to venture off to new and potentially better techniques lol
I love how everyone's getting so riled up about my comments 0.0
But uh yea, sure to whatever you said (since it makes you happeh, idc tbh).
What you have to say has no affect on me whatsoever, and my belief that black women do change their hair because they don't like its natural texture, still stands. And the fact that you relax it because you "want to fit in"? THAT is more sad than my honest reason, which is that I don't like it natural. So i suggest that you don't throw stones. ROFL.
Lol. I don't know where you get the idea that I'm a guy, but I can assure you that I'm female. XD
You think that there aren't any black people who don't like their hairtype? You must be blind; the sheer fact that so many black women (as well as myself) relax their hair to make it straight, is proof that we don't all like the texture, therefore we change it. o.O
Now, I don't know what other womens' excuses are for relaxing their hair, but I flat-out do NOT like my natural hair texture.
No, I respect your choice to relax. It seems like it makes straigtening MUCH easier. I've never relaxed ever, my grandma and auntie just didn't want that for me so I'm natural. If it wasn't for me worrying about new growth and stretching, and shelving out money for up keep, I probably would have tex-lax by now. I love my texture but sometimes its a pain in my ass.
@CheesyPoophs i dont hot comb my hair cause i dont like it i was blessed for my hair from god and still havin it my texture is curly at the end and wavy i love my texture so much im glad i dont have straight hair u cant do anything to it thats why i stay natural
@irockz6 i agree, i hate the greasy hot comb look, it looks wet. I never oil my scalp, but i also dont get dandruff until its time for me to wash my hair. I love my PM flat iron and it perfect for my unrelaxed hair. Cool vid, thanks for posting
people still use hot combs??!!! I haven't used that since middle school, in my momma's kitchen, burning my hair so my bangs would be super straight! uh uh, so not good for me.
please rewatch the video before commenting, shes not using grease but coconut oil conditioner, thermasilk leave in conditioner and frizz-ease. She is'nt thinning she parted her hair before applying the coconut oil. The hot comb was smoking because of the oil not because it was to hot.
I hope that this is not what you do with every wash. And 3 hours? Serious? Thats not healthy. That hot comb looked too hot and soon you will not have any hair. I also noticed that your hair was thinning as well. There are other ways to blow out your hair. You should also try using a blow dryer and an brush with less grease to achieve a bouncier look and a lighter touch. Good luck with that.
I hope your hair is not relaxed because you should not use a hot comb it will demage your hair. also lighten up on the grease, just use a small amount of oil it will give your hair more of a bounce.
Woo - Girlfriend aint playin. Talk about damaged hair! I used to press but had to go natural a year ago. I do appreciate the Go-Go though, Junk from back back in the day!

u need HAIR-apy..lol..i mean come on girl..heat is a big no no for afro american hair..thats more for white people..grease..tsk tsk tsk..didnt u know that grease clogs your pores and actually slows down the growth process? combing and brushing leads to damages, breakage and split ends..wrapping is ok once in a while, but i reccomend pin curls (less damaging)..hope my info helped now u can start taking better care of ur hair.
Girl, that is just way to must heat. You should try wrapping and drying under a hood dryer, and then maybe a saran wrap treatment. It gets your hair straight like a flat iron does, but it leaves it bouncy, smooth and movable. Not flat, stiff, and dull like it gets with grease and a hot comb :)
You are damaging your hair.Never use direct heat on your hair. The oil you use is burning you hair and you're using a hot comb.A big No No.Your ends will be damage and dry.Use a ceramic iron or tourmaline flat iron or rollerset your hair or wrap it.Don't ever blow dry or use heat on your hair.
wow..girl u r killing ur hair.u hav pretty hair but ur not treating it rite...try a flat iron and dnt put sooooo much oil on tht hair tht affects ur hair growth(and not in a good way)
just to let you know your runining your hair, your not suppose to use a hotcomb on it you should consider doing rollerset, and oil/grease on your scalb is cloging up your hair folicles...
I belong to some haircare forums...and I know the detriment of all the heat u are using but it is obvious that u are retaining length and that ur hair seems healthy...if it works for u keep it going....
oh god you are killing your hair. You should really consider using ceramics flat irons. you wont have to go over your hair so many times with the heat. My sister and I have very thick long hair and we have been using ceramics for the longest.
PT.2: why do u think blacks have such a hard time growing hair its because all the grease and oil many put onto their scalps a leave in conditioner should work fine, and if you want to straighten your hair just use a ceramic flat irion they are why better for your hair and because you dont have to use all that grease... hair folicles wont clog inturn you will be able to grow long hair inless of course you dont want long hair then keep doing what you do
Having length is not really about genetics. There are people who have long or short hair and their parents are the opposite. Some people have to treat their hair in a gentler way or protective style to retain length.
PT.1: okay for one why the hell are you useing a hotcomb that totally fries your hair heeelllooo. and another thing grease and oil on the scalp clog the hair folicles and stop hair growth.
Ya'll know what's good for moisture/softening the hair to look shiny and is not greasy or oily feeling/looking... "Dudley's Creme Press". I rub it on my hair (you only need a little swipe not even a finger of it) and rub together on hairs and smooth on the hair and when you rub your hands together after, guess what, doesn't feel like anything was ever on your hand... you can smell it but not feel it. Great stuff, I love it.
you should trim your ends...atleast an inch off. your hair will grow really fast after that. using large rollers, hot come on the roots and a wrap would be better for your hair.
Trimming your ends does not make your hair hair grow faster. That's just a myth that's been running around for a long time. Trimming or dusting your ends help you retain length (keeps from hair breaking off)and keeps them looking nice and maintained. She shouldn't need to trim an inch off unless her hair is really damaged.
true, everyone's hair grows a half inch every month. but if you want to keep your split ends from going up to your scalp you have to keep your ends neat.
Too much heat and too much time on that hair! I let my hair air dry, blow dry (for my roots) and then use a flat iron (for my ends). 45 mintues, to an hour tops!
My hair is natural but if I had to straighten my hair by myself I would have burns all over my ears, forehead and neck! Gotta give you your props 'cause it couldn't be me.
mannn i used 2 HATE gettin my hair pressed when i was a kid. 2 much heat and fear of gettin burned. i remember my mom telling me "i didnt burn u, that was just the steam" WHATEVA!! i know a burn when i feel it!! lol.. i applaud u 4 having the courage 2 press your own hair, but for me im glad those days are long gone...
You must be white. Yes this is an art video - but black women don't have a lot of resources when it comes to our hair. Why not give tips and comments!
it just looks like she's agressive because the video is sped up. it shows at the end of the clip, but this is a good video, i try to stay away from too much heat on my hair, though unless i use a really good damage control substance but i try not to use a lot of chemicals. wrapping the hair at night after you get a perm or wash it really helps it. grease your scalp and use a hair lotion or setting lotion before wrapping, and wrap it while it's wet. when you wake up in the morning style as usual.
don't grease your scalp...it does not moisturize it, same with oils. it just gives the appearance of shine and moisture. if you perm your hair then you should grease your scalp to protect it from burning
I agree with you again about petroleum, but there are oils that do moisturize and condition the hair if one knows how to apply them correctly. Coconut oil for example can penetrate through the scalp and moisturize, but it also adds shine that lasts.
Castor, jojoba, emu, and EO are some other examples that can be used on the scalp or used to seal in moisture. But it is best to use in small amounts so that it won't weigh down the hair. Less is more is a very valuable rule to know.
Hi there. You really could get the same results with some serum, a good blow dryer and a paddle brush...Or for less heat, just blow out the roots and wrap your hair. Your hair is already pretty straight from the beginning. HTH, take care.
You must be white. That is obviously not petroleum jelly she was using. There is a description at the beginning of the video that tells you EXACTLY what she is using in her hair. That was just ignorant.
you don't need petroleum. in the beginning it makes your hair appear like is moisturized, but you are really just clogging your pores by letting it sit there and your hair will break and smell. the leave in conditioner is enough the petroleum she only be used as a gloss once you are done styling
Agreeing to disagree. I agree with you about the petroleum clogging pores, and that a leave in conditioner should be enough. But I don't think the petroleum should be used as a gloss after styling since it will only cause buildup. A good serum or hair spritz should be sufficient.
the less you keep on your scalp and the more you wash your hair, the more oil your scalp will produce. oil and water don't mix, but oil and oil mix...the oil you put on your scalp will wash out the natural oils leaving your hair dry.
wow you were great and it was rather fast. You did a great job and do you have a relaxer in your hair an how often do you have to o th entire process?

Less grease is better, grease makes your hair burn.
Use olive oil to soften up your hair and use a heat protectant, it'll get straight same ways.
& if you are thinning, castor oil helps that.

it just looks like she's agressive because the video is sped up. it shows at the end of the clip, but this is a good video, i try to stay away from too much heat on my hair, though unless i use a really good damage control substance but i try not to use a lot of chemicals. wrapping the hair at night after you get a perm or wash it really helps it. grease your scalp and use a hair lotion or setting lotion before wrapping, and wrap it while it's wet. when you wake up in the morning style as usual.

don't grease your scalp...it does not moisturize it, same with oils. it just gives the appearance of shine and moisture. if you perm your hair then you should grease your scalp to protect it from burning

Girl! The blowdryer robs more moisture out your hair than anything else! Its best to let it air dry and then go over it with a flat iron or hot comb.

that's a lotta heat...

may i ask why do u oil your scalp with petroleum
racheal1234 3 years ago 3
You must be white. That is obviously not petroleum jelly she was using. There is a description at the beginning of the video that tells you EXACTLY what she is using in her hair. That was just ignorant.

you don't need petroleum. in the beginning it makes your hair appear like is moisturized, but you are really just clogging your pores by letting it sit there and your hair will break and smell. the leave in conditioner is enough the petroleum she only be used as a gloss once you are done styling
maamesaf 3 years ago
Agreeing to disagree. I agree with you about the petroleum clogging pores, and that a leave in conditioner should be enough. But I don't think the petroleum should be used as a gloss after styling since it will only cause buildup. A good serum or hair spritz should be sufficient.

the less you keep on your scalp and the more you wash your hair, the more oil your scalp will produce. oil and water don't mix, but oil and oil mix...the oil you put on your scalp will wash out the natural oils leaving your hair dry.

lovely hair but treat it with more care or you will damage it

Junkyard Band! You rock D.T. This is Steph's brother Morgan out in New Mexico (it's much better than regular Mexico).
I like to listen to your soundtrack and watch the video.
Cheers!

johndec77 4 years ago
What are you doing with the towel? It seems to be working, but I've never seen it done like that.
marie2dessy 4 years ago
She's using the towel because the temp is to hot on the comb.
fnasring 3 years ago 2
The towel gives you a straighter, smoother, glossier press! An old washcloth is the best size!
