Am I crazy or does she sound like betty Buckley - which I men as the higest praise?
Similar vibrato and tonal quality. And - her acting! All like betty Bucklet. Not her mannerisms. Buckley has one the finest singing voices in musical theater. Judy Kuhn matches her. Just my opinion. Very similar vocal styles.
I love her diction. So often now people 'sing around' the note and improvise that much of the original song is lost. Her performance here is so wonderful for its control.
To me, this is the definitive Soneone Else's Story. Judy's subtle inflections are so in keeping with the song. Her heart-wrenching "Go now... I'd tell her that for free" says it all. No one can sing this song better than Judy Kuhn!
This is beautiful. "Someone Else's Story" has always been my favorite song from the American version of "Chess," and Kerry Ellis nails it from start to finish. She doesn't seem disinterested AT ALL. In fact, quite the opposite: She's truly ACTING the emotions of the lyrics. What a wonderful, rich delivery of a highlight from this long-troubled show.
Hi! I'm Walt1896 (check out my "walt1896" channel), otherwise known as mmbr01rrf, WendlaBergman, lmajoy94, walt1886, and about 100 other userames. I love to CLONE myself, so I could flag all your comments that I don't like and attack you people if don't favor my idol, SUTTON FOSTER, over the LOSER JUDY KUHN! Judy should stop following in Sutton's footsteps! I protect Sutton's image on Youtube and don't tolerate criticisms. I'm sure Sutton LOVES me for it. You SUCK, Judy!
Not only does she look beautiful, she sounds beautiful! I personally don't think she sounds disinterested, more introspective, but hey, that's just me.
The tempo's too slow which leads to a sense of being "disinterested" or disengaged from the text. And it's a difficult song in the sense that it's not incredibly "active"---she's literally singing to herself about herself. That's all. But Judy is just lovely! And 80's Judy, none the less!
this is the video i've taken far too long to upload, and your video condition is in much better shape......Kuhn is simply brilliant.....there's a conversational delivery, a talkiing to yourself delivery, which of course is absolutely on the mark.....one of the finest songs written for a musical.....just glorious

I love her but she looks and sounds kind of disinterested here. Just like when she sang I Dreamed A Dream in Washington.
