  • Norton Buffalo - RIP

  • That dude on harp is really good.

  • This is utter shit.

Johnny's version is over 9000 times better.

  • The space cowboy the gangster of love only Stevie guitat Miller lol

  • @masean2000 Johnny "Guitar" Watson actually came up with both of those phrases, "Space Cowboy, Gangster of love" that Steve Miller took from songs of his.

  • That harmonica solo was smokin

  • Yeah!! Love ain't for money, is it? Great song!!

  • This version is a bit weak.

Then again, a fat Steve Miller from the 80s probably wasn't that much of a spectacle anyway.

  • is there a better version of the gangsters of love by miller somewhere??? i only find liveversions ...

  • Johnny Guitar Watson got alot of DESERVED exposure from Steve covering this

    song...plus much needed cash from royalties....so it's win/win

  • what a douche, this song is not allowed to be sung in bro-acoustic guitar mode. He is fucking this up.

  • Are you fucking kidding me? Why? This is the blandest shit I've ever heard. Johnny Guitar Watson should bitch slap this guy.

  • Johnny winter version is better

  • Steve makes it all look easy. Fucking guy.

  • i liked the steve miller band in the beginning, with boz skags. didnt care for his solo career.

  • @mdees100 I sooooo agree with you. Just sayin....

  • im sorry this version is shit compared to the studio electric version, i just wish it ws longer than one min

  • I don't care whose version is better, but Norton Buffalo on the harp kicks ass!

    R.I.P. Norton

  • that's Norton Buffalo on the harp.......RIP :(

  • From what I understand Steve Miller wrote it. Regardless, Johnny Guitar Watson's version is a million times funkier. I don't think anyone can dispute that. RIP Johnny

  • @Nefesh67 Johnny Guitar Watson wrote and recorded it in 1957 Steve Miller recorded it in the late 1960's both are good to listen to

  • Oh No @Nefesh67 ... the original version belongs to Johnny Guitar Watson, its composer, who wrote it in 1957... Many years later, Steve Miller cover it, but it's not his song...

  • killer harp!!!!!

    omg!

  • thanks jpheitman. I'll look for some of his blues stuff. I know the guy has got talent but that was really bad.

  • Sad

  • lame version

  • this is so bad!

  • This is sooo sad! Damn.... I guess you gotta at least give him credit for writing the tune. But Johnny Guitar Watson's version is where it's at and will always be. Steve Miller shouldn't fuck with no blues. I know he used to like to put down Michael Bloomfield who would have burned him on this song in every respect. Just stick to pop like Abracadabra and you'll be alright Steve.

  • @Nefesh67 Dude... His band was originally called the Steve Miller Blues Band. He can do blues. Not like Johnny Guitar, granted, but nevertheless.

  • @Nefesh67 Steve Miller didn't write this, Johnny "Guitar" Watson wrote it.

  • he did this accessable version for his new found audience , the hip version is on "sailor"

  • What's up with the audio???

  • Steve Miller Band is great, but Guitar Watson KILLED it!!!

  • @KindSHRED No, Guitar Watson killed Miller's version. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Miller, but no one can beat Johnny Guitar's version.

  • @jpheitman Well, Johnny wrote it, and I agree, he owns this song. I think Steve would agree too.

  • Damn, were all guitars in the 80's so drenched with chorus?

  • @zedrein18 Yeah, it was a short lived fad, and I agree, now it sounds so cheesy.

  • This version is so weak. Johnny Watson knows how to pull this song off. He did write after all.

  • quality of audio is pretty terrible

  • Johnny must be jumping up and down in his grave about this crap version.Crying shame

  • What the hell is this version about?!?!?

  • I love Steve Miller, but this is the worst version I've ever heard. What the hell is he doing?

  • Is this from a longer concert video?

  • Love Steve's versatility and complexity; but his new 'Oh, Yeah' is a really smooth...

  • @sekhmetraptah 'hey, yeah' not 'oh, yeah'

  • This was filmed at Pine Knob in Clarkston, Michigan. Well, its called DTE energy theater now.

  • I don't think so.......

  • Sounds like crap...

    WTF..

    Do better you fuckhead!!!!!!

  • A little artist license... it's a take off of JGW's song and of Steve's own version from the late sixty's... I think what he did with the song show's his own talent and ability... I think it rock's as a song on it's own... sometimes you play a song for almost twenty years... you just gotta change it up.

  • JGW !

  • Miller is GREAT!

    GREAT harp solo!!!!

    RIP ..Norton!

  • Well, the left channel audio is bad. But this is the only version I've seen of Steve live doing this cut. I think it's great. Especially great to see Norton Buffalo young and having a blast.

I don't get the criticism either.

    Ron

  • this is not the version on the album critics, Johnny even said his version rocked, not to shabby since LES PAUL TAUGHT STEVE TO PLAY GUITAR

  • I don't get the criticism of Steve Miller. He is certainly one of the top guitar players of all time. This live version is fine with me, but I would say the version Steve recorded in the Sixties is his best effort and was praised by the song's writer, Johnny Guitar Watson.

  • wow wat a horrible version of johnny gs classic

  • sounds like crap....sorry

  • Weak weak weak, go watch Johnny guitar Watson

  • I like his version on his 1968 LP Sailor a lot better

  • R.I.P. Norton.

  • What a weak version!

  • Check out Johnny Guitar Watson for the original version. The one without the blackness removed.

  • @zimmerface Ahahahahahahahahaha! Zinger!

  • Can someone post Jet Airliner from 1983's Steve Miller Band Live?

  • Norton Buffalo!!!!!

    OMG!!!!

He's the BEST player EVER..and he's really sick now..played with steve for ...34 years and is now battling cancer..pray for him!

  • He just passed away the other day. I just found out about it today..RIP Borton..

  • and i found out johonny watson wrote this song for this band......look it up

  • Wasn't written in the 40s?

  • ghetto boys gangstar of love ..ahh this is where they got if from.....cool

  • she ite

  • omg this fails

johnny guitar watsons version is 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x better than this

  • i agree

  • I agree 150%

  • It is, once you get through the silly 2:30 intro Johnny put on it.

  • Is this the 'Duck Tales' theme. Would rate 0 stars if possible.

  • what are you talking about?

  • I agree that Steve slipped a little when he went mainstream. This isn't bad, but the version on his Sixties album is great.

  • This a revision of 'Framed'.

  • This song was not recorded in 83, maybe this performance but not the song, it was like 70 or somthin

  • steve should be charged with murder.

    and hung lol

  • fuck off how did this shit go gold and guitar watson not. this is o tay gay fuck off

  • This version is lame.

  • I agree that Johhny Guitar Watsons version is much better than Steve's. My all-time favorite version of this song, however, is by Sam the Sham and the Pharohs. It was on the "Wooly Bully" album.

  • No one seems to mention that Johnny Guitar Watson butchers his own version, as would be expected for most anyone of his age singing such a silly song - witness Miller's inability to get through it with a straight face when he first recorded it in 1969. You'd think the song was some kind of classic blues and not a novelty song in the first place.

  • Miller couldn't sing as well as Watson, which I bet he knows very well, and he knew better than Watson did how to craft a hit pop record. When Miller did a Watson song Watson got the songwriting royalties. Just like when Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald or Nat King Cole did a Cole Porter song Porter got the songwriting royalties. (And who therefore complains about Billie or Ella or Nat "stealing" show-tune "white" pop? Not me, anyway. I think integrated musical sounds are a _good_ thing.)

  • this is crap!

after listening to the various live JGW versions and his original from the 1950's this is just so lame next to the real thing..

  • mistrijah: Amen to that brother!

  • Nice version, but i prefer the LP version, please share some more!! In the 70s Steve did a tv special n the netherlands, including an acoustic solo set it was a great show, unfortunally they whiped the ampex tape.

If somebody have a video from Steve performing seasons or nothing lasts, please share

    Thanks

  • summary;

White dudes have been stealing the funk since the beginning.

  • JG Watson wrote the song. Steve Miller Band recorded it. JG Watson's comments at the beginning of his rendition featured on youtube says he is giving his rendition of a song that he (JG) wrote and Steve Recorded. As great as Steve Miller Band is it can't take credit for this one. Steve Miller Band, like so many others recorded others' songs, often times soul, funk and R&B artists, and gave it "crossover appeal." It's nothing new, not even in the 60s/70s when Steve was doing it better than most

  • I've been watching the J.G.WATSON COVER ofthis one, well it's so dry like a steak you forgot on the fire ,and nobody wants on his plate. Why some eat it all the way remains a question of bad taste.Basta.

  • lekezenman your ears are on the bottom of your feet. The original JGW is better and you know it. stop the hatin and appreciate that if it wasn't for the Brothas there would be no music of note in this country or the world. wherever their is White and Black white take the music and try to package it as their own, the same thing happens in Brazil and all over the world. This is fact not fiction. If you give credit where credit is due it wouldn't be a problem, but is a problem when you can't admit it

  • you sir are a fucking idiot, that is all. Stop swinging off the black mans nuts!

  • I do not think that 'bmwstan' is "swinging off the black man's nuts." Miller's is a nice, pop-style song, done the way only Steve Miller knows how. If you like Miller's style, then this is a good rendition. However, i think it is patent that without African immigrants, the history of US music would be impoverished indeed. JGW's version, to me, is grittier. No, it's FILTHY. Just like sex. Dirty. Mean. And even a bit tongue-in-cheek sometimes. Also: 'sir' and 'fucking idiot' don't go together.

  • You need to suck off a neo-nazi you racist!

  • fuck off ratgirl, you are from new zealand what would you know about racism. Oh by the way I AM BLACK, you ass kissing bitch.

  • I have Maori blood you fucking dumb arse.

Black people like you give the rest a fucking bad name.

  • Comment removed

  • What does that mean?

  • Some are "meat that talks" some have SPIRIT above that

  • boooooo

where is the 70's show version....

  • Someday I want to see a vid of Steve's immortal (but little-known) "Junior Saw It Happen." I saw him perform once in Charlotte long ago. He had a schedule wherein he would tour only in the fall in those days, don't know what he's doing now. Caught part of his performance while channel-surfing a while back on the Tonight Show.

  • steve miller butchered johnny guitar watsons original.

  • Absolutely true. This wasn't even a shell of Watson's version.

  • nah steve did it first theres a video on you tube where johhny says he is doing his rendition of steves song

  • Son JGW wrote this song in the 50's get your facts straight.this is a very weak version of the original. Like a lot of white groups back in the day they covered a great many black acts and packaged it as their own. stop the dishonesty and be real. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

  • steve guitar miller

  • Nice guitar sound!

  • There has never been any to surpass Steve Miller's talent (though Hendrix was most certainly in the same league.)

  • i think you have to mention johnny guitar watson ?

  • I agree!

  • i really agree. steve miller is the most underrated muscian in the business. i wish theres some video of him out their from the early sixties when he ws playign the guitar behind his head and doing the splits

  • Oh come on, I'm a big Steve fan (at least for the first four albums, he sucked once he discovered the pop formula), but this is a completely indefensible statement. As someone who was there at the time, waiting at the record stores for each new release, I remember the common statement about Steve at the time: "You didn't hear the new Eric Clapton record? Don't worry, just wait for the next Steve Miller album. All those riffs will be on there".
