O WHAT A SAVIOR (Marvin P. Dalton) ***Chorus O what a Savior, O hallelujah His heart was broken on Calvary His hands were nail scarred His side was riven He gave His life-blood for even me. Death’s chilly water I’ll soon be crossing His hand will lead me safe o're I’ll join the chorus in that great city And sing up there for evermore. ***Chorus
@ldoyle1043 I thought the same thing but come to find out it's driven not riven......as in driven with a spear. If you watch the video again you'll see! God Bless!
The Bible commands for salvation is to trust in Jesus Christ and him alone and what hehas done for salvation. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.(Romans 1:16). Jesus was born of a virgin, led a sinless life, was crucified and died, was buried, and on the third day he Arose!!! And all those that trust in Him alone are saved by grace and grace alone. Eph 2:8-9. Rom 3:23
I love these men. I knew Rosie and Hovie personally thanks to my dad's heavy involvement with Southern Gospel. This was my favorite to hear Rosie sing and my dad too. They don't make it like this anymore.
I heard Rosie sing this song in person many times in Chicago and in Nashville. I have to say there is no other song that moves me to tears but this one with Rosie singing it.
Oh what a savior! He gave His life's blood for all then arose to live that I might live forever to be with Him. Believe in Jesus that you may be saved, also!
What wonderful memories of Rozie as I listen to that beautiful voice again. As a choir director at Huffman Assembly of God back in the 70's it was an honor to be led by him...oh the souls that were led to Jesus when Rozie would sing this song! It will be SO grand to stand in his choir in Heaven!
These videos are great. The memories are sometimes very tearful, was at many concerts with the Statesmen, Blackwoods,Rebels, Stamps, etc. What a time, how many blessings!!! To have seen all these groups in pereson!
I used to see their bus in Waycross,GA. They were at a few of those "all night singings" as I recall. I am an old Pentecostal Holiness boy from Nahunta,GA and went to church in Waycross. I've been a fan a long time.
I too join the throngs that absolute love this song ... and also admire this great man of God, Rosie Rosell. RIP in Rosie. You blessed many people with your singing while on this earth.
What a Savior! What a wonderful, loving, glorious and eternal Savior. A Savior who loves us when we don't even love ourselves. A Savior who loves, redeems, forgives, justifies and saves. HALLEUJAH!!!!!! WHAT A SAVIOR.
WhileI would say that Ernie Haase is no Rosie it is still blessing that this young man has taken this song and madeit his own. Now it is still being sung in the 21st century. RIP Rosie and all the old statemen
If that powerful, beautifully written, spirit anoited song don't stir up your soul, I don't know what will! Rosie's signature song won many souls for his Savior! Oh what a Savior Rosie served and we serve..his sacrifice was depicted and portrayed so vividly in this great timeless old Spiritual!!
Rozie is the best at this song!! I cry everytime I hear it, especially the last time he sang with Dean Brown. Thank you for posting. I added you to my subscription list. God bless always.
Oh ny! Yes, I saw it the last time Rozie sang this w/Dean. Talk about chills, the look on Dean's face when Rozie did his familiar "on Calvary" at the end. Made me cry! R.I.P. Rozie. Keep singing up in Heaven to Him.
would some1 tell, did rosie ever sing with big jim hamel,in the kingsmen quartet...thanks for posting,if he did sing in kingsmen qrt.i seen him when izzz 6 yr. old big jim picked me up,and said this little man is gonna be ok,see izz born in 63 with spina bif &fluid on my brain, mom &dad have been THE best,& yall know..GOD still looks after me,thank you,Father for all who see this,&they'll know YOU CARE BOUT THEM ALSO,God bless u all,in Jesus name,Amen...RIP ROZIE & BIG JIM...
Ernie is my personal favorite as far as this song but, Rosie IS the original & hard to beat. Just think folks Rosie is probably singing this right TO that Savior :)
The last time I heard Rosie, back in about 1984, he could still raise the roof with this signature number. We are indeed blessed to have had this talent pass this way. Look for "Hide Thou Me," as another great Rosie number. This is one of the songs that made the Statesmen truly great.
Rosie's expressions and delivery seem so positive and kinda make me look forward to my day.. I've listened to these guys since I was a young kid. Their just great!
i used to sing baritone for a gospel group and our lead singer sings this song and its so beautiful...but trust me...no one can sing it like ole Rosie
very very nice :) I sing tenor in a gospel quartet, and we do this song. I don't mean to try to put myself on any pedestal or anything, but I think I do it pretty well. This song will, however, ALWAYS belong to Rosie Rozell :) LOVE his version, he's the best. Thanks for the post!
Very moving.
