You say so eloquently how I feel that I fear you have a mind reading machine. :) I too am writing Grad School applications and I feel so inferior sometimes... I feel as though I am standing on a cliff and the crippling fear is keeping me from realizing how exciting the fall will be.

Thank you for your poem. It has made me feel better... and maybe now I can write this paper I have been putting off.

What am I academically sure is a tricky question, especially for someone from the humanities. Also, getting paid for how many times you got laid is an interesting point, tho I doubt I'd put it on my CV. Okay, it depends on the job but hey :)

When sifting through thousands of applications, you need numbers as a quick way of cutting down the number. When you're dealing with your friends, you should go with qualitative analysis rather than focusing on the numbers. I don't need to rank my friends from best friend to worst friend--I need to know who I feel like going to this particular movie with today.
