@Karoke77 the majority of Christians accept evolution. don't believe me? consider this: most Christians are Catholic, the second largest group are Orthodox. both Churches accept evolution according to their official teachings. of the remaining Christians (Protestants and "other") a large number there (maineline protestants for example) accept evolution. hence, it's a minority that reject mainstream science on the issue. so logic alone dictates you're wrong.
@Karoke77 how old is the earth? approximately 4.54 billion years. how old is the universe? approximately 13.75 billion years. how did we most likely get here? the big bang. I'm a Christian. next question? oh wait, you still strawmen are fun to knock over. well, good luck with that. ;)
@Karoke77 I appreciate the concession. most Christians are not Young Earth Creationists (YECs). So it would be unfair to paint us generally as espousing such beliefs.
Sooooooooooooooooo fun to see cultists from different "Armies Of God" quarrel about fantasy and nonsense. It is kinda scary though too @_@ Where do these people come from? o_O
As Christianity fades out of the USA culture decade after decade, I rejoice and celebrate a brighter future for all. SING IT TO THE "HEAVENS"!!!!! O_O ^___^ Christianity is going extinct at last. "Hallelujah"!!!! O_O LoooooooooooooooL XD
@Karoke77 yeah, because as we know, the world was a peaceful paradise before Christianity came.... oh wait, no it wasn't. never mind, but don't let facts get in the way of your rejoicing. party on, dude.
@Karoke77 "As Christianity fades out of the USA culture decade after decade, I rejoice and celebrate a brighter future for all. ... Christianity is going extinct at last." tell that to your fellow internet atheists who are daily panicking at the "growing power" of the religious right in America being turned into a theocracy by conservative Christians.
@XSC3 I guess you did not hear the news? @_@ Atheists took command of the USA government and military in 2009. Terrorist cells and leaders no longer have freedom to cause havoc and death as they did when Christians ran the USA government. We will kill any "Army Of God" which attempts to imprison, terrorize or kill us. USA voters already rejected the Christian nutjob candidates for President (Palin, Perry and Bachmann). Atheists are in charge now ^__^
@Karoke77 I'm sorry, what? Barack Hussein Obama is a Christian (a "nutjob" to use your preferred lingo) as is his VP. Perhaps you can name the atheists who are "in charge" currently that you think are doing such a great job. Last I checked, the politician who most wants to end the ridiculously wasteful wars on terror, drugs and wars in the middle east is also a Christian (oops!).
@Karoke77 oh sure, don't refute what I said, simply contradict it. You've admitted you haven't studied the evidence, you hold to positions way outside the mainstream on matters of fact, and apparently think you're being clever in the process. No thanks. ;)
@Karoke77 funny thing is when you look around, the countries most threatening to go nuclear aren't Christian. they're officially atheist (China, North Korea). so who is the bigger threat to the world here, really?
Reading the comments of one cultist mocking other cults is soooooo AMUSING yet sad. It is 2012, yet Christian extremists continue to think a book as silly as a Disney movie is real earth history @_@ Where do these f****** people come from? They are not much smarter than an orangutan. Another piece of evidence for evolution I guess!! O_O
Maybe? someday Christians will see that they have been trapped in a "Good Cop / Bad Cop" (God and Satan) drama invented by humans. To even think a God who would allow most of its "children" to be burned in fire is okay is absurd!! >__< Even worse is people who think ONLY they and a small minority will be "saved" and yet LOVE the God (they think is real) who tortures forever all others for even the most minor of things (non-belief due to HIGH INTELLECT and NO EVIDENCE OF A GOD). SHAMEFUL.
@ChristJesusReigns Let me guess. YOU determine who is a REAL Christian, right? o_O YOUR cult is the only true one, yes? O_O LOL @_@ AMAZING (were it real) that your God will not HELP the CREATions (=P) it made? by f****** telling everyone something like..."Hey guys!!!!!!! Stop arguing and fighting!! I will not torture you forever if you guess wrong which version of me is real. RELAX I hope you will love me, but I will not torture you forever in fire. Here is who I really am (SHOWS himself)..."
this is semantics. Christianity is a religion. spirituality is religion. plenty of Muslims will say that they have a "complete way of life" or a "relationship with God." we know they have a religion too. the term "religion" is even used in reference to Christianity in the Bible (see James 1:26-27)
That term "Religion" is not in reference to Christianity, as you have brought up. It is referring to looking after orphans and widows. Nothing wrong with that, but it still doesn't make Christianity a "religion" as man has redefined religion as. Again, religion is man trying to work his way to God or a "god". Being a Christian is about God transforming your life because HE came to us in the person of Jesus Christ, and set us free with His Truth, not "religion"
@ChristJesusReigns "as man has defined religion"? You mean as certain modern Christians have decided that "religion" means "a man-made system of going through the motions that God hates" which then forces them to say that "Christianity is not a religion." That's silly. they're trapped by their own self-made negative re-definition.
Christ didn't come to establish a religion. He came to bear witness of the Truth, and die on the cross and rise from the grave for the sins of the world. That is why He came, Not to start a "religion".
@ChristJesusReigns James speaks of true religion. the true religion is Christianity. he's saying that's what true Christians will do, care for orphans and widows in their distress and remain unstained by the world. he's not talking about what you can do apart from Christianity, in context he's speaking of the conduct of other brothers and sisters in Christ, in other words, Christians. In the verse this is religion that God the Father accepts as pure and faultless.
True religion has nothing to do with salvation. Salvation comes from Christ and Christ alone, not religion. Caring for orphans and widows does not save you from your sins. Only Christ does that. You can't distinguish the difference between salvation (which is what happens when you become a Christian) and "religion". Again, no amount of works or deeds can save a man's soul. That's why you ignore the verse in Ephesians that says we are saved by Grace through faith, not of works.
@ChristJesusReigns God the Father accepts as true and faultless, which religions? Which ones apart from Christianity? Go ahead, give me your list. James is clearly speaking of the conduct of Christians. so we can't say on one hand that we have a "true and faultless religion" accepted by God the Father, and over here, we have Christianity which serves a different purpose. You've simply redefined "religion" forcing yourself to twist the scriptures on this point, I'm afraid.
That's right, but as I said that has nothing to do with salvation. Anyone can care for widows and orphans. Even an atheist can do that. You don't understand the difference between salvation and religion.
@ChristJesusReigns Please do not forget to pick up food for the pet dragon sweety!!! It might rain and we need to be packed in case we will board an ark =P
Jesus saved the thief being crucified next to Him on the cross in the last minutes of his life. Jesus saved the thief and told the thief that he would be with Him in paradise. So tell me how the thief on the cross took care of widows and orphans in the last few minutes of his life? Oh yeah that's right, he didn't, which again demonstrates that we are saved by Grace through faith, not of our works, so that no man will boast. Its the verse in Ephesians you continue to ignore.
I often hear "born-agains" claim Christianity is a relationship, not a religion. But, they go to church every Sunday, perform the same rituals (and ,yes, "praise and worship IS a ritual!) , read their holy book. etc. Christianity is a RELIGION. Just admit it, get over this "relationship" nonsense. No, you DO NOT have a relationship with Jesus - you have a relationship with your concept of Jesus. Jesus, if he ever actually existed ( and many scholars think he didn't), is DEAD . GROW UP!
@MrForextrader123 which "scholars" think Jesus didn't exist? no modern credible experts I know of. perhaps you know some we aren't aware of? (tip: Acharya S and Earl Doherty aren't experts)
Jesus says you must be born again, born of the Spirit, not of the flesh. Being a Christian is a spiritual transformation that Christ performs in your life when you receive Him as Lord and Savior. He makes all things new, the old you has passed away, and you become a new creature in Him. All of this is Biblical, as is the words born again, which Christ spoke of Himself. People praise politicians, do you say that's a "religion" as well?
We praise and worship the Lord because we love Him, because He first loved us. It has nothing to do with "religion". We love Him, and all to Him we owe, because without Him we would have nothing on this earth, and we would not have eternal life. The reason you baselessly attack those who know its a relationship is because you ARE NOT saved yourself. You are not speaking of the spirit, but rather of the flesh. Its impossible for you to understand.
@ChristJesusReigns worshiping, praising and loving God is the very essence of true religion. it's not separate from Christianity. can you have faith apart from works? if so, it is dead. a living faith, saving faith is true religion. I'm not baselessly attacking anyone, I'm refuting this notion which is used to attack people for using the word "religion" because it doesn't meet this absurdly created re-definition that it's something wicked and false.
@ChristJesusReigns it has nothing to do with "working our way to God." again, you've simply redefined a word that the Scripture uses positively, to mean something negative, forcing you to call it something else. other people have done the same nonsense with the word "Christianity." They say "Christianity is corrupt and man made, I am a follower of Jesus not a Christian." It's the same faulty, unbiblical logic.
@ChristJesusReigns how am I "speaking of the flesh"? I'm showing you that your re-definition of the word is the problem. it creates a problem by contradicting the scripture. the simple way out of this self-created problem is to not redefine the word for no reason. there is both true and false religion. you can't simply say all religion is false, and therefore Christianity is not a religion.
You are speaking of the flesh because you think that man-made works can save a person from their sins. All "Religion" as defined by man-made doctrine (like the doctrines of the Catholic church with their UnBiblical teachings (like praying to Mary, calling the Pope Holy Father, belief in purgatory, etc, etc, etc..) if false and ritualistic, and has nothing to do with what Scripture says. Again though, "religion" doesn't mean salvation. Salvation of sins only comes through Christ.
@ChristJesusReigns I believe in the resurrection of the flesh. Christ rose again in glorified flesh. the "flesh" you are speaking of is Paul's metaphor of those who live "according to" the flesh, meaning sinful desires (as opposed to "according to the spirit" meaning the virtuous desires). the Bible was written by men, all of the apostles were men. Jesus was a man. what are you trying to say?
@ChristJesusReigns you are forced to trust men with your very salvation (those words you cherish were all penned by sinful, mortal men, who have been dead for centuries). even Christ himself had a real body of flesh and a real human soul (to deny that would be heresy). so where do you get off calling the Church which Christ founded "man made" as if it were meant to be rejected?
@ChristJesusReigns many of those things are taught in Scripture, and if not, are taught in the Tradition and are not at odds with Scripture. rather, 1500-1700 years later, some guy decided that parts of scripture were not scripture, and that the way Christians had interpreted it for centuries and centuries was wrong, and tried to use it as a club to beat others over the head with it. I choose to disagree with these men.
@ChristJesusReigns but again, you're creating a false dichotomy, wherein you must choose between Christ and the Church. Christ founded the Church and resides there. So saying you accept Christ but reject his Church is bewildering. It's like saying "I like you, but hate everything you stand for." it's quite illogical.
@ChristJesusReigns it's not a sin to refer to people as "father." Jesus is using hyperbole in this passage (if you disagree, then you sin and disobey Christ every time you say call someone "mister" or "mrs" or "miss" or "ms." or "professor"), and indeed Paul broke this "literal" command numerous times in Scripture. that interpretation is absurd but it shows a literal reading, which is inappropriate in the context.
@ChristJesusReigns salvation of sins is indeed through Christ, but Christ works through many means to achieve this, at least if you go by Scripture. for example baptism for the remission of sins (baptism now saves you), confession (if you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them, he says to his apostles), and prayer (the James 5, both during the anointing of the sick and also those who confess their sins and those who turn a sinner from his ways).
So because you don't understand, you attack, attack, and attack. So why do you believe Jesus is dead? Where did you learn that He died? You believe it because it was written down in history, correct? So what source did you derive your conclusion from? Do you believe Muhammed existed? What about Buddha, what about Aristotle, what about Caesar? What about Josephus? Do you believe these people existed, and if so, why? What's your source?
God isn't coming because God doesn't exist. Quit believing in childish fantasies and superstitions. Grow up! Jesus is just a fairy tale, like Santa or the Tooth Fairy.
@MrForextrader123 the historical existence of Jesus is not in doubt, except by misinformed conspiracy theorists. modern experts (even if they are atheists) accept the evidence for his existence as genuine.
@LogosApologia, You hit the nail right on the head, the vdo proclaims a doctrine same as mine. I am a born-again christian and I have a wonderful relationship with the Father because of my relationship with Jesus. Thank you for creating a vdo filled with clarity on the vanity of religion which as a christian, I also detest. Please, never tire of this work of spreading truth and may God always provide you with the strength and means to sustain you. MARANATHA.
"Religion" in James 1:27 is from the Greek 'Threskeia' (Strong's Greek 2356, a derivative of 2357) and translated as "CEREMONIAL OBSERVANCE" (also understood as religion and worship). In my understanding it sort of represents a 'gesture or form of worship' which fits well with Christ's definition as "..to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."
@tuberobotto in other words, Christianity is a religion. the only reason to argue that Christianity is NOT a religion is if someone who espouses Christianity has redefined "religion" into a dirty word and no longer wants to be associated with it.
@ChristJesusReigns that's a redefinition to make it something negative. do you think James was telling us that we can either be saved by "religion" in your definition or we can be saved by Christ? No. He's speaking of them as the same thing, because Christianity IS religion. it's really not hard to understand. you've created your own problem by redefining "religion" as something bad (which even the scripture doesn't teach).
If James was speaking of the same thing, then how did Christ save the thief on the cross? What "Religion" did the thief follow? Did the thief on the cross take care of widows and orphans? No, he was a criminal. That's why he was being crucified next to Christ. Christ saved him of his sins however during the last moments of his life. Salvation comes through Christ and Christ alone.That is why people come to Christ duing their dying years all the time, after they finally realize this
@ChristJesusReigns the thief on the cross was pardoned by Christ of his sins and expressed faith in Jesus and his kingdom. He was a Christian. if he had lived, he would have done all those things that Christ commanded, and when he sinned again, he would have repented. God reserves the right to accept deathbed conversions, but that doesn't mean all conversions should look like this as simple one time events with no effort required on our part afterward as if we had died.
@ChristJesusReigns salvation indeed comes through Christ alone, which is why he gave us his Church to dispense that grace. I'm sure you agree that salvation is not in emotional experiences or in intellectual assent to true doctrine. and you agree that Christ is not trapped on the pages of a book or in somebody's imagination. so I'm not sure how you can really object to salvation being found in the Church where Christ is.
@ChristJesusReigns Christ can save anyone he wishes, including atheists. but the normal means of salvation Christ uses is the Church he established, finally, at Pentecost. And if it isn't the Catholic Church, well, good luck finding it (hint: it's not a Church with a roll of only one member!).
the search for christlikeedness where one become chystaline being of pure energy by followoing the way the truth & the life of Love Good & Love One Another? hmm still al abel tho ,.no words gd or bad,. but actions or inactions frm thm. .....or is tht demon speak? ",..,^
Often, people say, "It is about relationship, not religion". Not so fast! It is about both. The Bible speaks of "pure religion" (James 1:27) which infers religion can be impure, just as there are "true worshippers" (John 4:23) inferring worship can be untrue or vain (Mt. 15:9). Christ is Savior of the obedient (Hebrews 5:9). If we love Jesus, we'll keep His commandments (John 14:15). Relationship and Obedience = Pure Religion and True Worship. Otherwise, one has not God (2 John 1:9).
(Part 2) I've been hearing this so much from a lot of these Christian's nowadays it makes me sad that the majority of the people that follow a religion such as that don't know anything outside the 'Crucifixion & Resurrection and of Jesus'.
(Part 1) Is it me or am I starting to hear from a lot of Christians say that "Christianity is NOT a religion, it's a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus"? Because last time I checked, if you worshiped a god, followed a 'holy book' on a daily basis and went to church, that would be under the category of RELIGION. (continue to part 2)
@stoutmeister91 Jesus Was Crucified for Tearing down the Veil of Religion & turning tables up screaming about Corporate Religion ,for 2kyrs we bn commanded to Love GoODness & Love One Another , Even our Enemies,. no more labels of seperations,. etc,. including 'Christianity' .. The Biggest Religion is Ignorance. when someone is perfect they are chrystaline pure being of energy like JC , who has nvr left us & Return soon in the hearts of all Good Men. (cheerz 4 vid logos)
I think you might have completely made up that definition of religion at the first of your video. . . . I have searched for the definition in several dictionaries and the universal one I have found is. . . . re·li·gion -noun 1. belief in and worship of a God . . . . I really hope this helps with this basic common fallacy that every other religion including the christian religion makes . . . .シ
This is stupid... Protestants need to stop trying to be cool and new age... This is from the dictionary for the word Religion "A specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion" It even uses Christianity as an example... Set of beliefs: Jesus died for our sins. Practices: Praying to God, singing to God,keeping Holy the Sabbath day,ten commandments etc Christianity is a religion...Stop trying to be COOL,it's dumb
Christianity IS true, but there's lots of other things that are true and still have names. Like choirs. I could say, "They are not a choir, they're just people singing in a group with specific parts creating harmonies together."Or"They arn't playing soccer, they're just people split into two groups following a specific rule set of a game in which you try to get the ball into eachothers goal using only your legs or head." But that's stupid.Christianity IS a religion Christianity IS a religion.
@ChamorruWarrior Good, we are in agreement. I'm not concerned about names either, its just a title 'religion'.
However, I think the reason the uploader created this video, is due to the horrible context religion has been put under. Because historically it has been grouped with religious politics which makes it seem artificial. It also groups conflicting belief systems under one title - which undermines the truth.
Christianity use to not be conflicting with one another until Protestants took the bible, changed what it says, and thought they could inturpret. You can inturpret a book a THOUSAND ways. My proof is, there are THOUSANDS of different protestant groups, all claiming they follow the bible Yet they have all changed all the meanings and even changed parts of the actual bible. The devil uses the bible too! What use to be the strongest human organization on earth, is now split up and WEAK!
You cannot interpret it as you wish...Catholic Priest goes to school for 14 years, studies languages and culture and tons of other stuff in order to give you the correct meaning of what is being said in the Bible. Because there's a million ways to interpret it, yet only ONE way is the correct way. The Catholic church is older than the Bible, not to mention we created the Bible,we know what it says. Now we have thousands of different groups of Christians that believe different things,wrong things
The Catholic church is the ultimate form of corruption under the veil of Christianity.
It CANNOT be anymore political than it is, to me its quite disgusting.
The Church biblically, is the Christians, not the building. Catholicism has created a power stronghold of 'elite members' the clergy, and the followers.
Catholics are older than the Bible, they created the Bible? Just shut up please.
The Catholic church IS older than the Bible, and we did create the bible. The church is the people, but it's also a specific building as far as the world "church" can be used in the English language that is used for the seven sacraments. And the original "elite clergy members" were the the Apostles as the original Priests and Peter "The rock of the church" is the original Pope. You obviously don't know alot about the Catholic church,you just think like most people. You don't actually know
They were the original, the original badasses of the world. Anyway, the troll in you is comming out, you're actually just a rude person, who is probably only rude like this online and is actually kind and shows SOME form of respect to others in real life. You've never taken the 9 years of Catechism class, so don't proclaim to know how the Catholic church works or anything about it. In fact, I dout as a Protestant you've taken any kind of class about Christanity, it's all about what YOU want
The rock of the church is JESUS CHRIST. Not the "Pope". Your pride in Catholicism blinds you from a true relationship with Jesus Christ. Praying that you will find Him and be set free before its too late.
It actually doesn't blind me from him.Jesus is the head of the church, the Pope is a person.The Pope's job is not to BE God,God leads the church THROUGH this man.What if we had the 2 Billion Catholics on earth try to all lead themself and figure out what as a church, we should be doing?Well from what we can see about Protestants is that we would split up into 100 thousand DIFFERENT churches,many with their own versions of the Bible.Every individual seeks Jesus,but leading the church is different
Calling the Roman Catholic pope "Holy Father" goes against Scripture. There is only one Holy Father, and that is Father God, not the Pope. Read Matthew 23:9
@ChristJesusReigns actually Abraham is our father and holy. we have many spiritual fathers. But God is Father of us all. The Catholic Church gave us the scriptures, so it's kind of silly to try to prooftext from them to discredit Catholicism. Evangelicals should do this least of all, since they've only been around for about 282 years.
The Catholic church had nothing to do with the Scriptures. The Scriptures were written down on scrolls by Hebrew and Jewish people, hand chosen by God. Evangelicals have been around since the time of Christ. Do you even know what it means to evangelize? Try following the great commission and you'll discover what it means.
@ChristJesusReigns nope. if you followed that logic, then you'd have no New Testament. the Jews rejected the New Testament at Jamnia in the year 90 AD. they weren't written in Hebrew but Koine Greek. it's a known historical fact that Evangelicalism began in Great Britain in the 1730's. see Bebbington, D. W. (2008). Evangelicals in Modern Britain: A History from the 1730s to the 1980s.
Every New Testament book was penned down by a Jew. The Pharisees rejected the New Testament through Christ, not all Jews. The very first followers of Christ were ALL Jews, as was Jesus when He was on earth.
@ChristJesusReigns MSNBC - "In a memo sent to its frequent fliers Wednesday, Alaska Airlines announced that the prayer cards it has been providing to passengers on meal trays for the past 30 years will be discontinued as of Feb. 1. Last fall the company decided to stop distributing the cards because, Egan said, “We believe it's the right thing to do in order to respect the diverse religious beliefs and cultural attitudes of all our customers and employees.”
@ChristJesusReigns "Every New Testament book was penned down by a Jew. The Pharisees rejected the New Testament through Christ, not all Jews. The very first followers of Christ were ALL Jews, as was Jesus when He was on earth."
perhaps. the Gospel of Luke may have been written by a Gentile convert. but the rest of what you said there I don't disagree with.
@ChristJesusReigns I get what you're trying to do there. you're trying to say that Jews wrote the New Testament, not Catholics. well guess, what? Those Jews were Catholic. Otherwise you're going to have to explain to me why you aren't a Jew, as if you were implying that to be a true Christian, you must be a first century Jew as well. Even so, Luke was probably a pagan who became a worshiper of Christ.
@ChristJesusReigns at the time the New Testament works were written and when they were canonized, there was a Church and it was called Catholic. there were other groups claiming to be Christian, yes, but you wouldn't recognize them as such, their beliefs and practices were that different. so either the Catholics gave us the bible, or maybe you'd have better luck with some other scriptures.
@ChristJesusReigns at best you can trace the term to the Protestant Reformation. but Christians were not known as "evangelicals" from the beginning. for most of history prior to the reformation they were known as CATHOLIC. Oops. I know what it means to "evangelize." I'm saying the evangelical movement and use of the term "evangelical Christian" is fairly modern. it goes back less than 3 centuries.
@ChristJesusReigns and the Catholic Church was evangelizing centuries before Martin Luther was even born. you got the New Testament from the Catholic Church, and your ancestors were Catholics before they broke off and became Protestants then Lutherans or Evangelicals centuries down the line. Without the Catholic Church you'd have no Scriptures. you'd have a few Jewish books in Hebrew.
The New Testament came from the Apostles, and Christ' first disciples, none of them being Catholic. Ultimately the Word of God comes from the Lord Jesus Himself, penned down by Hand picked men of God that HE chose. Nothing to do with Roman Catholicism. Everyone book in the Bible was penned on scrolls by Hebrew and Jewish men of God, hand picked by God Himself. Nothing to do with Catholicism whatsoever. But keep believing the lie, your choice.
@ChristJesusReigns and please don't even think of quoting "Jack Chick" on this. the man is a conspiracy nutter with no historical understanding. just saying. ;)
@ChristJesusReigns not only did the Catholic Church define and promulgate the New Testament canon (despite the Jews rejecting it all those centuries), it was Catholic monks who were the scribes who preserved the New Testament (and the rest of the Scriptures) for you all that time. without Erasmus (a lifelong Catholic) you wouldn't have one of the main sources for the King James Bible! it's a real shame that you don't know your own history (but you're not alone)
You've been deceived by the Catholic church and its arrogant claim that it gave the world the Bible. Continue down that path...many people have been deceived by it. You aren't the first, and certainly won't be the last.
@ChristJesusReigns What makes your cult the "ONLY REAL" one for God? O_O LOL The answer = YOUR MIND. If you could see yourself for just 30 seconds from an Atheist mind (viewpoint), you would be shocked and horrified. You really appear no different than the most mentally ill in any mental ward. Or perhaps you remind us of a zoo animal. PLEASE seek counseling. You live in fantasy and hatred taught to you by your cult. You are not strong enough to get out of the cult which deceives you.
@Karoke77 so people who don't agree with your beliefs are mentally ill? that to me doesn't sound like the thinking of a reasonable person. perhaps you are a fundamentalist Christian yourself, who just went "one god less"? I disagree with "ChristJesusReigns" the user you're responding to, but I think you attacked 2 billion people in your comments, not just him/her.
@XSC3 I am the death of Christianity. I am science and education ^__^ I was born an Atheist, and have never read past page 3 of the bible. Your cult will die too in this century. Europe is turning to Atheism as humanity grows (matures) and gains scientific knowledge. Atheists will continue to "attack" (in court) Christianity until it is rendered powerless and ridiculed by the next generation. We will continue to fund science education so that future generations leave behind fear and hate.
@Karoke77 "I was born an Atheist, and have never read past page 3 of the bible" so you essentially admit that you're ignorant and don't know what you're talking about. might you also live under a bridge and harass billy goats at regular intervals?
@Karoke77 if you accept that Jesus was sent from God, that does narrow down your choices as to what the "true religion" could be, though. Were you once a fundy before you became an atheist?
@XSC3 "if you accept that Jesus was sent from God" WHAT??? @_@ I state that Jesus either never existed OR was an insane cult leader similar to Usama Bin Laden. Either way, I sure as heck do not believe a God exists and sent "Jesus" to earth.
@Karoke77 "I state that Jesus either never existed " then you'd be an ignoramus or immune to facts, akin to a flat-earther. "OR was an insane cult leader similar to Usama Bin Laden" I'm not sure that's an apt comparison at all.
I'm saying that if you accept Jesus was sent form God, that narrows down which religions could be true, answering your bewilderment at how Christians could criticize other religions without being hypocritical.
@Karoke77 what does the historicity of Jesus have to do with the existence of God?
Honestly, if you're the best atheism has to offer, then I'm really, really disappointed. I guess I'll have to go looking to the Muslims to provide some debating challenges instead.
@ChristJesusReigns Abraham is our Father in faith. Paul was a spiritual father to Onesimus and to his congregations. It's not wrong to call a man on earth "Father" (this statement of Christ's is hyperbolic, otherwise you have some serious problems if you ever call someone "Mr./Mrs./Ms" as those are forms of Master, or Dr., professor, etc. as those are forms of teacher, not just forms of "father" (dad/padre/papa/etc)
@ChristJesusReigns so I can agree with you that this Foxtrader guy is wrong to say there's no evidence for Jesus existing in history, but I must disagree with some of the other things you said. to be deep in history is to cease to be a protestant. ;)
You misinterpret what Christ is saying,because you think of the flesh,and not of the spirit. Calling your biological dad on earth father is fine.What Jesus is referring to is a spiritual father.Example:Calling the Pope "holy father" is heresy.The only Holy Father is the Lord Jesus Christ,our Father in heaven.That is why Jesus says to call only the Father in heaven father.He is talking spiritually,not of the flesh,as you are thinking. (Which is why you accuse me of having problems).
@ChristJesusReigns you say it's spiritual and then you make it literal. using the word "father" violates the commandment in Matthew 23:9? Then okay, using "master" violates verse 8 & 10 in the same section of verses. so saying "Mr. So and So" literally violates the commandment, it becomes heresy, because you've called someone "master" who is not Christ. it's simple logic.
@ChristJesusReigns listen to yourself. if it's "spiritual not fleshy" and therefore okay to call your biological male parent "father" upon earth (though that violates a literal reading of the commandment) then how is it "heresy" to call a priest "father"? If you take the passage literally, it doesn't permit you to call ANY MAN "father" that would include your biological male parent. that would also mean you couldn't call any man on earth "master" or "teacher." hence Mr. is out
@ChristJesusReigns I don't take the passage as literal, but hyperbole. the "spiritual" reading has to do with not obsessing over human titles or ego, realizing that God is to be honored above all. Jesus often speaks in such hyperbole (pluck out your body parts, hate your family, etc). calling the Pope your spiritual father is not against Christ. if it were, then Paul was a heretic via 1 Corinthians 4:15
@ChristJesusReigns so the apostle Paul calls himself a spiritual father not only in 1 Corinthians 4:15-17 (and Timothy his spiritual son), but see also Philemon 1:10 where he calls Onesimus his (spiritual) son. Paul was a bachelor. he was speaking spiritually. but he should be as guilty as your Catholic opponents who call priests "Father"
@ChristJesusReigns Paul not only calls himself father (and clearly not in a biological sense) he also calls Abraham our father (Romans 4:16). James also calls Abraham our Father (2:21) and Jesus does as well (John 8:56). Abraham even means "father of multitudes." so I think my interpretation of the verse is more consistent with the whole of scripture than yours. it's not a straight forward prohibition on calling human beings by certain titles.
@ChristJesusReigns yet it literally means "master." so if it's wrong to call someone "father" because of Matt 23:9, then you're equally violating it by calling someone "master" or "teacher" by using Mr./Mrs./Ms./Miss. I agree, you're not violating it, but then neither are those who call a clergyman "Father" out of respect.
It is led by Jesus. But let's take a look at Protestant theology VS Catholic theology on this topic. To Catholics, the Pope is granted the holy spirit to lead the church and keep us all doing the same thing so no one abuses the "holy spirit". All Protestants claim to be led by holy spirit, yet there are 100,000 different protestant groups, all based on the Bible all claiming to be right. Who's lying? Which of the 100,000 different religions all claiming the Holy spirit is right? I'd love to know
@ChristJesusReigns nobody (least of all Catholics) denies that the Pope is a sinner. guess who else were sinners? every prophet and every writer of the Bible. being a sinner doesn't prevent God from using a person to bring forth his Kingdom on earth. And the Pope and the Church are guided by the Holy Spirit. ChamorruWarrior exaggerates the number of protestant groups somewhat, but overall he/she has a good point. what makes the individual claims of guidance more credible than the Catholic claim?
@ChristJesusReigns the bible was written by infallible men. so if you object to men being infallible, object to the doctrine of biblical inspiration. I didn't say the Pope was prophet, I said he's infallible, which is what the sinful, mortal men who wrote the scriptures also were (and no, they weren't all prophets).
The Pope didn't write the Bible, and neither did any other Catholic. This is why early Christians who actually believed in the authority of Scripture rather than the Catholic church were persecuted, imprisoned, and even killed by early Catholic rulers. This is historical fact. Catholics don't believe Scripture is the authority, they believe the Papacy and Vatican is the authority over Scripture. I just had a Catholic the other day who had no clue what born again meant.
@ChristJesusReigns yet the Catholic Church and the Popes were around for at least 15 centuries before there was a such thing as a "Protestant" and at least 17 centuries before there was a such thing as an "Evangelical Christian." concepts like "Scripture Alone" and "salvation by faith alone" were unknown to Christians for all those centuries. did Jesus really goof up that badly that such important concepts and people didn't exist for most of the time since his resurrection?
@ChristJesusReigns which "early Christians" are you talking about? There were no 'Evangelicals" until the 18th century. No Lutherans prior to the 16th. I'm sure you don't consider the Waldensians, Albigensians (Cathars) or Arians to be true Christians (if you really know what they believed). So which "True Christians" do you mean?
@ChristJesusReigns you do know that the Lutherans and Calvinists killed people for heresy and killed Catholics (and other Protestants) over both religious and secular issues, correct? Then why don't such acts disqualify them from being true Christians if it disqualifies Catholics?
@ChristJesusReigns who says that "Scripture is the authority"? The Church defined the boundaries of Scripture (the canon) why not its interpretation as well? Luther didn't even agree with the radical interpretation of Sola Scriptura you hold, which is why he had Traditions and guides (like his small catechism) of his own.
@ChristJesusReigns We in fact do believe Scripture is an authority, but we don't believe it is the SOLE authority for Christians, and we don't presume that private interpretation is the proper method of interpretation. why would it be? Because somebody in Germany in 1522 thought it was? or somebody in England in 1730 thought it was? or maybe in America in 1870? Or 1950?
@ChristJesusReigns "born again" is an english phrase based on certain translations. ask that Catholic if they understand the concept as the ancient Church did. I'm guessing you have adopted a modern evangelical (or fundamentalist) understanding of that phrase. and just because you met an ignorant Catholic doesn't mean that all Catholics are so ignorant or that that ignorance means we don't have an official teaching on it, anymore than an ignorant member of your church does.
@ChristJesusReigns at the time that the New Testament was written, there were no Lutherans, Calvinists, Baptists, or any of the other denominations that exist today of which you may find affinity. there was one group of Christians you could rightly call a Church and it was the Catholic Church. this was the body of Christians who decided what books were rightly called scripture and which were not. (continued)
@ChristJesusReigns you can look up what this "great church" (the Catholic Church) believed in those early centuries. and you'll find that they have a lot less in common with your varieties of protestants than they do with a certain modern institution you might know as the Catholic Church today.
@ChristJesusReigns did people exist in history who disagreed with the Catholics over doctrine? Certainly. but if you look up their beliefs (just as you look up the ancient Christians and discover how little they look like your modern evangelicals and a lot more like Catholics today) you'll find that these "heretics" are quite unrecognizable to you as "Christians." so those are your choices...
@ChristJesusReigns the trouble with some folks in your corner is that they think they can leap from the pages of the New Testament to today and form a church based on the book. the ancient Church didn't function this way, as it had no New Testament to draw from to create a denomination. so why should we use that method today? somehow they knew how to be Christians without even knowing what books belonged in the bible.
Even though Jesus specifically speaks of how we must be born again, born of the spirit, not of the flesh right in the Gospels when He was speaking to Nicodemus. Jesus tells us we must be born again, but most Catholics have no clue what this means because again, they've trusted in the words of the Catholic church, rather than what Christ Himself actually says in the Gospels
@ChristJesusReigns nonsense. the Catholic Church has the words of Christ and always has. using the phrase "born again" to mean an emotional state reached after a church service or recovery from an accident or after sobering up or however it is commonly achieved (after hearing a moving sermon, etc) does not remove the fact that you are accepting a religion which Christ gave.
@ChristJesusReigns if you're right, and we're wrong, where were you for the first 1700+ years after Christ died? apparently nobody knew how to read the Gospels until your movement came along and showed us the light. perhaps Jesus should have waited for you guys instead of coming to earth when he did? You can't divorce Christ's teachings form the Church he founded, the Catholic Church.
@ChristJesusReigns Your cult is dying!!! O_O LOL TOO LATE? TOO LATE FOR WHAT? Is your "God" a genocidal maniac? You live in such fear of FICTION!!! @_@ You are really the stupidest person I have ever met. REALLY!!! @_@ Such a moron and fool are YOU. I have never seen anyone so caught up in a cult as are you. Your life is one big waste. SO SAD.
@BrimstoneLandscapes we get tax exempts because that is the law of the land and our bible instruct us to obey the law of the land ...gosh ignorance is bliss...if they choose not to give us tax exempt we would do fine with out it...thank you.
@57worldwide your statement is ignorant. you know only what media tell you about Christianity but have you read the Bible? if not you cant speak of something you have no full understanding of...only know what you were told...that is ignorance
@studiousangel No, it is because Christianity is a religion. You obviously are ignorant of the definition of religion, or you would understand Christianity is one.
@57worldwide im not going to argue with you, I am a christian with or without an organization.with out a building with out all the attributes of what you call "religion" Christ was against organized religion. it is a personal relationship with God not with a building and people. so again. you are ignorant about something you have no true knowledge of.
@studiousangel 'Religion is a collection of cultural systems, belief systems, and worldviews that establishes symbols that relate humanity to spirituality and moral values' - Christ may have been against established religious organisation, yet you don't share belief systems or worldviews with any other Christians? If that's the case, you aren't Christian; if you share belief systems and worldviews then that group can be classed as a religion.
@57worldwide ok thanks for researching Christians. because if you did. you wouldnt have used "worldview" "cultural system" to describe something you have no knowledge about. your world definition from wikipedia and other secular sources...does not define anything sacred to an individual. i am a christian. follower of Christ. please dont try to debate with me. read the Bible and then we can talk. later.
'Read the Bible and then we can talk' - just handle the fact Christianity is a religion.
I don't have to define what is sacred to you, as 'Jesus being the messiah, God sent to Earth in the flesh to atone for our sins' seems to be a common belief shared among Christians. This belief is part of a number of beliefs (or a system of beliefs), meaning it can be defined as a religion.
@57worldwide your obviously bored I see. again if that was all there is to christianity. there wouldnt be 66 books recorded in the BIBLE...please, if you are so hungry to know more read it. and go pray and let it be revealed...good day
@57worldwide your just obsessed on wanting to be right...when you are soo lost and wrong. get a life! and go read for once and get some understanding...other than that of a world full of slaves. thanks
You may not want Christianity to be referred to as a religion, as that word may carry a negative connotation for you. That still doesn't change Christianity from being a religion.
All you have stated is 'no it isn't, read this book and then you are qualified to comment on wether Christianity is a religion'. You have not stated any reasons why you believe Christianity is not a religion, nor have you defined Christianity or religion.

Christianity is a RELIGION.
Karoke77 1 week ago
this is semantics. Christianity is a religion. spirituality is religion. plenty of Muslims will say that they have a "complete way of life" or a "relationship with God." we know they have a religion too. the term "religion" is even used in reference to Christianity in the Bible (see James 1:26-27)
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
ChristJesusReigns 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns "as man has defined religion"? You mean as certain modern Christians have decided that "religion" means "a man-made system of going through the motions that God hates" which then forces them to say that "Christianity is not a religion." That's silly. they're trapped by their own self-made negative re-definition.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
Christ didn't come to establish a religion. He came to bear witness of the Truth, and die on the cross and rise from the grave for the sins of the world. That is why He came, Not to start a "religion".
ChristJesusReigns 1 week ago
@ChristJesusReigns James speaks of true religion. the true religion is Christianity. he's saying that's what true Christians will do, care for orphans and widows in their distress and remain unstained by the world. he's not talking about what you can do apart from Christianity, in context he's speaking of the conduct of other brothers and sisters in Christ, in other words, Christians. In the verse this is religion that God the Father accepts as pure and faultless.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
ChristJesusReigns 1 week ago
@ChristJesusReigns God the Father accepts as true and faultless, which religions? Which ones apart from Christianity? Go ahead, give me your list. James is clearly speaking of the conduct of Christians. so we can't say on one hand that we have a "true and faultless religion" accepted by God the Father, and over here, we have Christianity which serves a different purpose. You've simply redefined "religion" forcing yourself to twist the scriptures on this point, I'm afraid.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
That's right, but as I said that has nothing to do with salvation. Anyone can care for widows and orphans. Even an atheist can do that. You don't understand the difference between salvation and religion.

GROW UP!
MrForextrader123 2 weeks ago
@MrForextrader123 which "scholars" think Jesus didn't exist? no modern credible experts I know of. perhaps you know some we aren't aware of? (tip: Acharya S and Earl Doherty aren't experts)
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@MrForextrader123
ChristJesusReigns 2 weeks ago
@MrForextrader123
ChristJesusReigns 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns worshiping, praising and loving God is the very essence of true religion. it's not separate from Christianity. can you have faith apart from works? if so, it is dead. a living faith, saving faith is true religion. I'm not baselessly attacking anyone, I'm refuting this notion which is used to attack people for using the word "religion" because it doesn't meet this absurdly created re-definition that it's something wicked and false.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns it has nothing to do with "working our way to God." again, you've simply redefined a word that the Scripture uses positively, to mean something negative, forcing you to call it something else. other people have done the same nonsense with the word "Christianity." They say "Christianity is corrupt and man made, I am a follower of Jesus not a Christian." It's the same faulty, unbiblical logic.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns how am I "speaking of the flesh"? I'm showing you that your re-definition of the word is the problem. it creates a problem by contradicting the scripture. the simple way out of this self-created problem is to not redefine the word for no reason. there is both true and false religion. you can't simply say all religion is false, and therefore Christianity is not a religion.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
ChristJesusReigns 1 week ago
@ChristJesusReigns I believe in the resurrection of the flesh. Christ rose again in glorified flesh. the "flesh" you are speaking of is Paul's metaphor of those who live "according to" the flesh, meaning sinful desires (as opposed to "according to the spirit" meaning the virtuous desires). the Bible was written by men, all of the apostles were men. Jesus was a man. what are you trying to say?
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns you are forced to trust men with your very salvation (those words you cherish were all penned by sinful, mortal men, who have been dead for centuries). even Christ himself had a real body of flesh and a real human soul (to deny that would be heresy). so where do you get off calling the Church which Christ founded "man made" as if it were meant to be rejected?
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns many of those things are taught in Scripture, and if not, are taught in the Tradition and are not at odds with Scripture. rather, 1500-1700 years later, some guy decided that parts of scripture were not scripture, and that the way Christians had interpreted it for centuries and centuries was wrong, and tried to use it as a club to beat others over the head with it. I choose to disagree with these men.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns but again, you're creating a false dichotomy, wherein you must choose between Christ and the Church. Christ founded the Church and resides there. So saying you accept Christ but reject his Church is bewildering. It's like saying "I like you, but hate everything you stand for." it's quite illogical.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns it's not a sin to refer to people as "father." Jesus is using hyperbole in this passage (if you disagree, then you sin and disobey Christ every time you say call someone "mister" or "mrs" or "miss" or "ms." or "professor"), and indeed Paul broke this "literal" command numerous times in Scripture. that interpretation is absurd but it shows a literal reading, which is inappropriate in the context.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns salvation of sins is indeed through Christ, but Christ works through many means to achieve this, at least if you go by Scripture. for example baptism for the remission of sins (baptism now saves you), confession (if you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them, he says to his apostles), and prayer (the James 5, both during the anointing of the sick and also those who confess their sins and those who turn a sinner from his ways).
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns Catholicism is indeed a man-made religion, in that it was made by a man, the Lord Jesus Christ (who is also God). I'll take it. ;)
XSC3 2 days ago
@MrForextrader123
So because you don't understand, you attack, attack, and attack. So why do you believe Jesus is dead? Where did you learn that He died? You believe it because it was written down in history, correct? "Religion" in James 1:27 is from the Greek 'Threskeia' (Strong's Greek 2356, a derivative of 2357) and translated as "CEREMONIAL OBSERVANCE" (also understood as religion and worship). In my understanding it sort of represents a 'gesture or form of worship' which fits well with Christ's definition as "..to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."
May The Lord find us working 'till He returns.
tuberobotto 2 weeks ago
@tuberobotto in other words, Christianity is a religion. the only reason to argue that Christianity is NOT a religion is if someone who espouses Christianity has redefined "religion" into a dirty word and no longer wants to be associated with it.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
Christianity is God coming to man, reaching out to us, as He did in the person of Jesus Christ. Religion is man trying to work his way to God.
ChristJesusReigns 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns that's a redefinition to make it something negative. do you think James was telling us that we can either be saved by "religion" in your definition or we can be saved by Christ? No. He's speaking of them as the same thing, because Christianity IS religion. it's really not hard to understand. you've created your own problem by redefining "religion" as something bad (which even the scripture doesn't teach).
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
Salvation comes through Christ and Christ alone.That is why people come to Christ duing their dying years all the time, after they finally realize this
ChristJesusReigns 1 week ago
@ChristJesusReigns the thief on the cross was pardoned by Christ of his sins and expressed faith in Jesus and his kingdom. He was a Christian. if he had lived, he would have done all those things that Christ commanded, and when he sinned again, he would have repented. God reserves the right to accept deathbed conversions, but that doesn't mean all conversions should look like this as simple one time events with no effort required on our part afterward as if we had died.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns salvation indeed comes through Christ alone, which is why he gave us his Church to dispense that grace. I'm sure you agree that salvation is not in emotional experiences or in intellectual assent to true doctrine. and you agree that Christ is not trapped on the pages of a book or in somebody's imagination. so I'm not sure how you can really object to salvation being found in the Church where Christ is.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns otherwise, Christ should have simply said "after I die, salvation will be found in a book"
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns Christ can save anyone he wishes, including atheists. but the normal means of salvation Christ uses is the Church he established, finally, at Pentecost. And if it isn't the Catholic Church, well, good luck finding it (hint: it's not a Church with a roll of only one member!).

ChamorruWarrior 4 months ago
@ChamorruWarrior Good, we are in agreement. I'm not concerned about names either, its just a title 'religion'.
However, I think the reason the uploader created this video, is due to the horrible context religion has been put under. Because historically it has been grouped with religious politics which makes it seem artificial. It also groups conflicting belief systems under one title - which undermines the truth.
josh9294 4 months ago
Christianity use to not be conflicting with one another until Protestants took the bible, changed what it says, and thought they could inturpret. You can inturpret a book a THOUSAND ways. My proof is, there are THOUSANDS of different protestant groups, all claiming they follow the bible Yet they have all changed all the meanings and even changed parts of the actual bible. The devil uses the bible too! What use to be the strongest human organization on earth, is now split up and WEAK!
ChamorruWarrior 4 months ago
@ChamorruWarrior I agree to an extent.
The word of God is logically pure, and people can interpret it as they wish.
Vested benefits, manipulation of the Bible, and political stronghold Christianity can be used for has resulted in these many divisions.
josh9294 4 months ago
You cannot interpret it as you wish...Catholic Priest goes to school for 14 years, studies languages and culture and tons of other stuff in order to give you the correct meaning of what is being said in the Bible. Because there's a million ways to interpret it, yet only ONE way is the correct way. The Catholic church is older than the Bible, not to mention we created the Bible,we know what it says. Now we have thousands of different groups of Christians that believe different things,wrong things
ChamorruWarrior 4 months ago
@ChamorruWarrior Oh dear, makes alot more sense now.
Just shut up please.
josh9294 4 months ago
The Catholic church IS older than the Bible, and we did create the bible. The church is the people, but it's also a specific building as far as the world "church" can be used in the English language that is used for the seven sacraments. And the original "elite clergy members" were the the Apostles as the original Priests and Peter "The rock of the church" is the original Pope. You obviously don't know alot about the Catholic church,you just think like most people. You don't actually know
ChamorruWarrior 4 months ago

ChristJesusReigns 1 month ago
@ChristJesusReigns actually Abraham is our father and holy. we have many spiritual fathers. But God is Father of us all. The Catholic Church gave us the scriptures, so it's kind of silly to try to prooftext from them to discredit Catholicism. Evangelicals should do this least of all, since they've only been around for about 282 years.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
ChristJesusReigns 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns nope. if you followed that logic, then you'd have no New Testament. the Jews rejected the New Testament at Jamnia in the year 90 AD. they weren't written in Hebrew but Koine Greek. it's a known historical fact that Evangelicalism began in Great Britain in the 1730's. see Bebbington, D.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns at the time the New Testament works were written and when they were canonized, there was a Church and it was called Catholic. there were other groups claiming to be Christian, yes, but you wouldn't recognize them as such, their beliefs and practices were that different. so either the Catholics gave us the bible, or maybe you'd have better luck with some other scriptures.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns at best you can trace the term to the Protestant Reformation. but Christians were not known as "evangelicals" from the beginning. for most of history prior to the reformation they were known as CATHOLIC. Oops. I know what it means to "evangelize." I'm saying the evangelical movement and use of the term "evangelical Christian" is fairly modern. it goes back less than 3 centuries.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns and the Catholic Church was evangelizing centuries before Martin Luther was even born. you got the New Testament from the Catholic Church, and your ancestors were Catholics before they broke off and became Protestants then Lutherans or Evangelicals centuries down the line. Without the Catholic Church you'd have no Scriptures. you'd have a few Jewish books in Hebrew.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
The New Testament came from the Apostles, and Christ' first disciples, none of them being Catholic.
XSC3 2 weeks ago

@ChristJesusReigns so I can agree with you that this Foxtrader guy is wrong to say there's no evidence for Jesus existing in history, but I must disagree with some of the other things you said. to be deep in history is to cease to be a protestant. ;)
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
ChristJesusReigns 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns you say it's spiritual and then you make it literal. using the word "father" violates the commandment in Matthew 23:9? Then okay, using "master" violates verse 8 & 10 in the same section of verses. so saying "Mr. So and So" literally violates the commandment, it becomes heresy, because you've called someone "master" who is not Christ. it's simple logic.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns listen to yourself. if it's "spiritual not fleshy" and therefore okay to call your biological male parent "father" upon earth (though that violates a literal reading of the commandment) then how is it "heresy" to call a priest "father"? If you take the passage literally, it doesn't permit you to call ANY MAN "father" that would include your biological male parent. that would also mean you couldn't call any man on earth "master" or "teacher." hence Mr. is out
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns I don't take the passage as literal, but hyperbole. the "spiritual" reading has to do with not obsessing over human titles or ego, realizing that God is to be honored above all. Jesus often speaks in such hyperbole (pluck out your body parts, hate your family, etc). calling the Pope your spiritual father is not against Christ. if it were, then Paul was a heretic via 1 Corinthians 4:15
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns so the apostle Paul calls himself a spiritual father not only in 1 Corinthians 4:15-17 (and Timothy his spiritual son), but see also Philemon 1:10 where he calls Onesimus his (spiritual) son. Paul was a bachelor. he was speaking spiritually. but he should be as guilty as your Catholic opponents who call priests "Father"
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns Paul not only calls himself father (and clearly not in a biological sense) he also calls Abraham our father (Romans 4:16). James also calls Abraham our Father (2:21) and Jesus does as well (John 8:56). Abraham even means "father of multitudes." so I think my interpretation of the verse is more consistent with the whole of scripture than yours. it's not a straight forward prohibition on calling human beings by certain titles.
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
When I call someone mr or mrs its out of respect. It doesn't mean they are my "master". Its called common courtesy. This is basic common sense.
ChristJesusReigns 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns yet it literally means "master." so if it's wrong to call someone "father" because of Matt 23:9, then you're equally violating it by calling someone "master" or "teacher" by using Mr./Mrs./Ms./Miss. I agree, you're not violating it, but then neither are those who call a clergyman "Father" out of respect.

The church is led through Jesus Christ and His precious Holy Spirit. Not the pope, who is a sinner made out to be "holy" by his followers.
ChristJesusReigns 1 month ago
@ChristJesusReigns
And the way to find out what you need to do as a church can be found in the Word of God, in Scripture. You don't need the Pope for that either.
ChristJesusReigns 1 month ago
It is led by Jesus. But let's take a look at Protestant theology VS Catholic theology on this topic. To Catholics, the Pope is granted the holy spirit to lead the church and keep us all doing the same thing so no one abuses the "holy spirit". All Protestants claim to be led by holy spirit, yet there are 100,000 different protestant groups, all based on the Bible all claiming to be right. Who's lying? Which of the 100,000 different religions all claiming the Holy spirit is right? I'd love to know
ChamorruWarrior 1 month ago
@ChristJesusReigns nobody (least of all Catholics) denies that the Pope is a sinner. guess who else were sinners? every prophet and every writer of the Bible. being a sinner doesn't prevent God from using a person to bring forth his Kingdom on earth. And the Pope and the Church are guided by the Holy Spirit. ChamorruWarrior exaggerates the number of protestant groups somewhat, but overall he/she has a good point. what makes the individual claims of guidance more credible than the Catholic claim?
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
Yep, and the Pope isn't a prophet who wrote the Bible. The Bible is God's Word, written down by hand chosen prophets and men of God. Not the Pope.
ChristJesusReigns 2 weeks ago
@ChristJesusReigns the bible was written by infallible men. so if you object to men being infallible, object to the doctrine of biblical inspiration. I didn't say the Pope was prophet, I said he's infallible, which is what the sinful, mortal men who wrote the scriptures also were (and no, they weren't all prophets).
XSC3 2 weeks ago
@XSC3
ChristJesusReigns 1 week ago
@ChristJesusReigns yet the Catholic Church and the Popes were around for at least 15 centuries before there was a such thing as a "Protestant" and at least 17 centuries before there was a such thing as an "Evangelical Christian." concepts like "Scripture Alone" and "salvation by faith alone" were unknown to Christians for all those centuries. did Jesus really goof up that badly that such important concepts and people didn't exist for most of the time since his resurrection?
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns which "early Christians" are you talking about? There were no 'Evangelicals" until the 18th century. No Lutherans prior to the 16th. I'm sure you don't consider the Waldensians, Albigensians (Cathars) or Arians to be true Christians (if you really know what they believed). So which "True Christians" do you mean?
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns you do know that the Lutherans and Calvinists killed people for heresy and killed Catholics (and other Protestants) over both religious and secular issues, correct? Then why don't such acts disqualify them from being true Christians if it disqualifies Catholics?
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns who says that "Scripture is the authority"? The Church defined the boundaries of Scripture (the canon) why not its interpretation as well? Luther didn't even agree with the radical interpretation of Sola Scriptura you hold, which is why he had Traditions and guides (like his small catechism) of his own.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns We in fact do believe Scripture is an authority, but we don't believe it is the SOLE authority for Christians, and we don't presume that private interpretation is the proper method of interpretation. why would it be? Because somebody in Germany in 1522 thought it was? or somebody in England in 1730 thought it was? or maybe in America in 1870? Or 1950?
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns "born again" is an english phrase based on certain translations. ask that Catholic if they understand the concept as the ancient Church did. I'm guessing you have adopted a modern evangelical (or fundamentalist) understanding of that phrase. and just because you met an ignorant Catholic doesn't mean that all Catholics are so ignorant or that that ignorance means we don't have an official teaching on it, anymore than an ignorant member of your church does.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns at the time that the New Testament was written, there were no Lutherans, Calvinists, Baptists, or any of the other denominations that exist today of which you may find affinity. there was one group of Christians you could rightly call a Church and it was the Catholic Church. this was the body of Christians who decided what books were rightly called scripture and which were not. (continued)
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns you can look up what this "great church" (the Catholic Church) believed in those early centuries. and you'll find that they have a lot less in common with your varieties of protestants than they do with a certain modern institution you might know as the Catholic Church today.
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns did people exist in history who disagreed with the Catholics over doctrine? Certainly. but if you look up their beliefs (just as you look up the ancient Christians and discover how little they look like your modern evangelicals and a lot more like Catholics today) you'll find that these "heretics" are quite unrecognizable to you as "Christians." so those are your choices...
XSC3 2 days ago
@ChristJesusReigns the trouble with some folks in your corner is that they think they can leap from the pages of the New Testament to today and form a church based on the book. the ancient Church didn't function this way, as it had no New Testament to draw from to create a denomination. so why should we use that method today? somehow they knew how to be Christians without even knowing what books belonged in the bible.
XSC3 2 days ago
@XSC3
ChristJesusReigns 1 week ago
@ChristJesusReigns nonsense. the Catholic Church has the words of Christ and always has. using the phrase "born again" to mean an emotional state reached after a church service or recovery from an accident or after sobering up or however it is commonly achieved (after hearing a moving sermon, etc) does not remove the fact that you are accepting a religion which Christ gave.
XSC3 2 days ago

Thank you for researching religion.

@57worldwide ok thanks for researching Christians. because if you did. you wouldnt have used "worldview" "cultural system" to describe something you have no knowledge about. your world definition from wikipedia and other secular sources...does not define anything sacred to an individual. i am a christian. follower of Christ. please dont try to debate with me. read the Bible and then we can talk. later.

@studiousangel How do you define Chrisitianity then?

@studiousangel No, not bored. Simply trying to correct someone.
The Bible is an anthology. It isn't 66 books in the Bible - it is how ever many books which collectively are known as the Bible.
Christianity is a religion, wether you confirm or deny it.

@57worldwide your just obsessed on wanting to be right...when you are soo lost and wrong. get a life! and go read for once and get some understanding...other than that of a world full of slaves. thanks

@studiousangel No, I'm not obsessed. I am right.
