I don't get it. The Dragon's Tail is famous for bike riders (and car drivers) trying to get through it as quickly as possible, totally ignoring the fact that the speed limit is 30mph. What's wrong with cops enforcing the law?

I live in NC and want to ride/drive the dragon really bad, but stories of friends and youtube videos make me think other wise, mainly cause of the police presence there.

I agree with there being cops at the dragon, but I don't agree with them writing bullshit tickets to any and everyone for retarded reason. There are alot of people who come there to enjoy the drive/ride, and there are alot of risk takers who cause the cops to be there in the first place. I say some (alot) of the cops are at fault, but so are some of the (alot) bikers/drivers who are reckless and ruin it for others.

I have nothing against motorcycle riders. I am a paramedic in the area though & my guess would be that the strong police presence is a result of the high number of motorcycle motor vehicle collisions that involve severe injuries occurring on the Dragon. It's a guranteed occurance on the weekend in the fall & summer. It also seems the reason that the patrol cars crossed the double yellow is to give you a wider birth, being that you were on the shoulder of the road.

i don't blame them for doing it, i mean half the video's on youtube of the dragon are bikes crashing and switching lanes doing 80 plus, im a sportbike rider and if i wanna carve the pavement i hit the track. i plan on making a trip to the gap this coming spring. hopefully i have a good time. does anyone know any other roads in the US that are fun to ride on?

I drove the Dragon for the first time on

2-2-08. I drove it 3 times..2 south 1 north. I went driving at 1am. No cops at all. Just me and the dragon. Carved it like a pro!
