I'm saying that if we had people who could legitimately challenge the monopoly on power that the elite have, then some change can really be made. I never said more parties would "magically" solve problems. We already have more parties, the problem is that the mainstream media tries to disregard them all as nutcases.
Fantastic. Not only do I love your style but I think that what you say is pretty philosophical. Symbolism is good and the future is important too. Its not becaus there is symbolism that the future is necessarily going to be bad of course. But for us here is Europe we sure hope so and we (that's the royal we) are glad to see the back of Bush. Unfortunately there might jus be one or two people who still think like him (and voted McCain) but long live democracy and peace.

Jay! You are freaking awesome! I love your point of view on the election and transition. Americans have to work and not let up for the next four years! The problem with the last administration was they kept the people in the dark and everyone just "let them." I'm glad the American people are alert now... they ought to pay attention to Obama's admin. and call them out if they mess up. At least with this administration, chances are they will LISTEN and do what's in the best interest of the USA.
There has been a lot of talk about riots breaking out, having to reinstate Martial Law,etc. I think too many people on the Right wing are getting extremely paranoid about how this is all going to unfold. There is also the Left Wing saying that Obama might continue to receive assasination threats. While both sides of the spectrum may or may not come to fruition, we need to remember how we behaved after 9/11. We all got together, hugged, cried, and decided to live a civil and humane life.
Man. This guy is amazing. Like i been telling people this but they dont listen. I think Ceelo said it best. In Cell therapy with Goodie Mob. But preciate it da video and ya words always.
absolutely right we gotta stay diligent and make sure Obama keeps to his word otherwise this great accomplishment will be for nothing more than a symbolic gesture
Whatever anyone thinks of Obama as a president, the fact that he got elected in the climate in which he was running is just one more thing to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving, Jay and all of the Youtube world.
I just love it when people refuse to accept bullshit either/or dichotomies and admit the world is a complex place and that opposing views can each have some truth to them. God, what would political discourse in this country be like if we were able to sustain conversations that really considered all the aspects of important questions, rather than boiling them down to simplistic right/left sound bites for the purposes of point-scoring for one's ideological team.
This vid is so true! I've seen certain people try to put this out there; it's something we all need to keep in mind. One thing you can do is go to Obama's change . gov website and tell him what change you want to see.

you keep posting video's and hopefully the rest of us will get out there and help in our community. that's where I think the real work is, giving a hand to our fellow citizens.
Best (only?) synergism I've heard regarding both ways of viewing Obama, namely his victory is one of the greatest moments, but that we have work to do for the next four years (and beyond). Thanks as always! :)
You put into words exactly what I feel and I'm so grateful for it. I know your not all "Awards!" about it but that blog award your up for NEEDS to go to you. I mean your shit is real. Simple. Elegant thought. Black thought even (heh see what I did there?) and although itsthereal is cute and boasts such guest stars as Travie from GCH, there isn't much authenticity in it, and for once I'd love to see hip-hop intellect win out over passingly amusing cuteness with guest rappers.
I like that toothbrushing thing, I'm gonna use that! You know, if the toothbrush had been invented someplace outside of Arkansas, they would have called it a teethbrush. haha half of my family is from Arkansas so i just be playin!
Great video. In my naiive opinion, you have an objective perspective that I not only see as profound and argumentative but also broad and "well-equipped".
Although I'm pretty sure I'm wrong since I'm basing the following judgement on various arguments that have more to do with whom I watch and hear instead of what everyone hears, it is hard for me not to say "you couldn't have said it better".
I make sure I send my kids and young family memebers all of your videos. They seem to love them. Just next time don't go so long in between. Our youth really need more outgoing people like you.
where have you been the last eight years? are you telling me that Bush's policies haven't had an impact in your life? Tell you what. When everything is said and done in a few years, you tell me who the better president was.
I never said it didnt, but the same would have happened regardless of who was president. High level republicans and democrats are all part of the elite, and they're determined to destroy this country, so it doesnt matter who's the so called "president".
I think who the president of the US really makes a difference. for the last eight years we've had a man in office who doesn't give a crap about the average American or the advancement of humanity.
We've fallen so far behind where we should and could be it's shameful. Obama is more than just the president, he's the best of us (hopefully), which is what the president should be.
I think that's a cop-out, frankly, Mr. Hulk. You get to be a cynic and feel superior, and also do precisely nothing even to attempt to change anything, because the fix is supposedly in and oh, well. I'd rather throw in with people who risk being fools and try to make a difference. I also simply don't accept your premise -- there's no reason to believe that an Administration not run by a group whose stated agenda had long been to start a war in Iraq would have done so.
Both parties work for big business, that's the engine that drives them. But each party is a different gear. Republicans are a high gear and democrats are a low gear. You switch to a high gear, to go faster when there's not much resistance. But when there is resistance, you switch back down to a low gear. You don't go as quick but it gets you over the hill. If it's a choice, make em stick to the low gear, but ultimately we've got to remove the engine.
Fine. Even if I accept your premise (which I don't, entirely), what's your plan for doing that? Mine is that widespread systemic change was never going to take place in four or eight years. But building on small win after small win is progress. Attempting to do everything in one fell swoop usually spells disaster.
Yeah build on small victories, celebrate them, but you've got to keep in mind the ultimate goal can't be just to shift into a lower gear, we've got to as einsteinfactor put it, replace the whole vehicle. How exactly? Well there's no exactly, but there's a whole bunch of different how's depending on who we are and where we are etc. No magic bullet. Definitely no magic democrat.
I think everyone here is agreeing that there's no magic Democrat. What I'm disagreeing with is Mr. Hulk's "elections mean nothing" attitude. Again, there's no reason to believe that the Bush Administration's having started a war in Iraq wasn't the direct result of a plan the people advising him had been promoting for years. Voting for the lesser of two evils matters. You can build a new automobile piece by piece. But running it into the wall will not magically give you a new vehicle.
See, you understand the damage both parties will do, but you continue to choose the lesser of 2 evils. When you choose the lesser of 2 evils you still get evil. We'll never be able to remove the elite from power through this "election" BS. Shame on jay and his followers for even thinking such a thing.
So your proposal is what, Mr. Hulk? You and your enlightened pals just take over and assert your will over everyone else, since you know what's best for us all?
You're absolutely fantastic. The quote by Chuck D should spread more; our work shouldn't stop on November 5th. Obama isn't a miracle worker, but he's sure as hell IS my President-Elect. And I'm damn happy about it. ;)
Well said dude. I myself was reluctant to embrace Obama's precedency as something symbolic. Just felt naive to see politics as anything else than mundane. But you've nailed it! As articulate as always!
lol - man, have you ever tried to watch a debate, and you want to hear about some issues but instead they have ABC's charles gibson gettin all up in your face with some gossip and republican talking points and you just gotta say, "yaaah gibson yaahh"

"THE PRESIDENT IS OUR EMPLOYEE"
That is as true as it gets ;)
Great video. In my naiive opinion, you have an objective perspective that I not only see as profound and argumentative but also broad and "well-equipped".
Although I'm pretty sure I'm wrong since I'm basing the following judgement on various arguments that have more to do with whom I watch and hear instead of what everyone hears, it is hard for me not to say "you couldn't have said it better".

I make sure I send my kids and young family memebers all of your videos. They seem to love them. Just next time don't go so long in between. Our youth really need more outgoing people like you.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
You're a damn fool for getting so excited over something that will have no impact on your life.
PurpleHulk4 3 years ago
where have you been the last eight years? are you telling me that Bush's policies haven't had an impact in your life? Tell you what. When everything is said and done in a few years, you tell me who the better president was.
samanthadian 3 years ago
I never said it didnt, but the same would have happened regardless of who was president. High level republicans and democrats are all part of the elite, and they're determined to destroy this country, so it doesnt matter who's the so called "president".
PurpleHulk4 3 years ago
that's a really pesimistic view of the world.
I think who the president of the US really makes a difference. for the last eight years we've had a man in office who doesn't give a crap about the average American or the advancement of humanity.
We've fallen so far behind where we should and could be it's shameful. Obama is more than just the president, he's the best of us (hopefully), which is what the president should be.
samanthadian 3 years ago

MissNormaDesmond 3 years ago
Yeah build on small victories, celebrate them, but you've got to keep in mind the ultimate goal can't be just to shift into a lower gear, we've got to as einsteinfactor put it, replace the whole vehicle. How exactly? Well there's no exactly, but there's a whole bunch of different how's depending on who we are and where we are etc. No magic bullet. Definitely no magic democrat.
rubbleofempires 3 years ago
I think everyone here is agreeing that there's no magic Democrat. What I'm disagreeing with is Mr. Hulk's "elections mean nothing" attitude. Again, there's no reason to believe that the Bush Administration's having started a war in Iraq wasn't the direct result of a plan the people advising him had been promoting for years. Voting for the lesser of two evils matters. You can build a new automobile piece by piece. But running it into the wall will not magically give you a new vehicle.
MissNormaDesmond 3 years ago
You'll still get evil, no good will come of it. I'm proposing people wake the fuck up and stop buying into this 2 party bullshit.
PurpleHulk4 3 years ago
Beautiful comment. This is the analogy I wanted to come up with but couldn't. By extension we need a whole new automobile.
einsteinfactor 3 years ago
See, you understand the damage both parties will do, but you continue to choose the lesser of 2 evils. When you choose the lesser of 2 evils you still get evil. We'll never be able to remove the elite from power through this "election" BS. Shame on jay and his followers for even thinking such a thing.
PurpleHulk4 3 years ago
So your proposal is what, Mr. Hulk? You and your enlightened pals just take over and assert your will over everyone else, since you know what's best for us all?
MissNormaDesmond 3 years ago
You're absolutely fantastic. The quote by Chuck D should spread more; our work shouldn't stop on November 5th. Obama isn't a miracle worker, but he's sure as hell IS my President-Elect. And I'm damn happy about it. ;)

Well said dude. I myself was reluctant to embrace Obama's precedency as something symbolic. Just felt naive to see politics as anything else than mundane. But you've nailed it! As articulate as always!
