To some extent X vs Y on mobile phones is slightly deceptive, there are 1000 million phones sold per year so there are enough customers to support all types of features and combinations of features.
On the other hand, if a particular type of feature becomes the most purchased it may eventually become the cheapest type too as manufacturing costs go down, which would make it even more attractive.
Will touchscreen phones one day be the cheaper option, with buttons seen as luxuries?
BTW just want to ask you ...Have you ever tried YOUTUBE buil in application on HTC TOUCH Pro2....because I found it the best ever streaming result on any device better than iphone...I have not got chance to try on N97 tough....any comments????
Yes, it works very well. Mind you, YouTube on the N97 is also pretty darned good, via the YT mobile site or via the client. No problem getting our vids these days!!! 8-)
@Steve, well I used to love touch phone when i was in school. lol ..and after that when i started working in business industry ,i was rely on PHYSICAL QWERTY phones but as today i can say the mix combination of both touch+physical QWERTY is perfect and ideal for anyone and thus why i ca settled for NOKIA N97 or HTC TOUCH PRO2 as i tried both and they are just perfect in bothway for media consumers as well as for communications..emails..etc.
although it would be great if the screen is 2 inc or bigger and why do i nedd to view a huge pc optimized web page when i can see its mobile version on the phone
duh but like he said for watching vids only in daylight thats right! only in daylight a 2 inch screen looks bad in night or dark it looks beautiful
Great video. Nice battle by the way, I have an iPod touch and an E71 (as the device I use daily, I have a few others for special occasions :P), and I still don't see touch-screened devices having more than a third or so of the smartphone market, for most people most of the time buttons>touch. I can use the E71 while walking and I don't even have to look at it that's a big deal for, I can't do that on the iPod, which is why I'll never buy a touchscreen only phone.
I have the exact same device combination and it works brilliantly. the only phone I'd trade my e71 in for would for would be a new e71, I've had mine almost a year now :)
Steve, I would like to ask you. Did you experience any creaking sound with the N82? I have just had my silver housing changed to the black housing at the Nokia Care Centre. After gotten it back, I noticed there is a distinct creak when I pressed the bottom part of the phone. Thanks in advance. By the way, great show Steve.
nope, same old, same old, its fat, its got a resistive display, ugly physical keypad, and what looks to be a slow processor. not to mention yet ANOTHER DAMN interface for a smart phone
8-) James, I'll take a wager with you right now that more non-touch phones will be sold during 2012 than touch. So that's looking 3 years into the future. No need to go fishing...!!
the next phone in the phone show 89 it's E55 , great "battle" steve , who needs big touch phone .... y have n95 8 gb whit 2,8" display the iphone has 3,1"- 3"...
The durability factor is a very important point, as is 1 handed usage when it comes to button phones. But no doubt both touch & button have their own advantages. I just hope phone manufacturers dont simply abandon button phones in the future in favor of touch, just coz thats the 'in thing' nowadays. Both should be available & improved upon, & the choice should be left to the consumer about which one to buy. Im sure the phone market is big enough for both.
Once again you gave us a excellent show. Love the way you kinda stay neutral on all devices yet give kudos to symbian phones. Touch vs non touch still is consumer preference and each is tailored to that particular individual. Good show and thanx
There are couple of HTC Hero reviews already available. Check out phonedog's dog fight with the Apple iPhone vs HTC Hero. I think as Steve said, its only just come so lets wait. Also the new HTC firmware upgrade has made things even better for the Hero and now the Sense UI is improving day by day. I agree with Steve, Andriod will soon give iPhone some competition.
Mostly hit and miss this time around. good arguments on either side for touch and button, but i do believe that touch has a bigger market possibility than button, because of the versatility of the screen, given the range of handsets oon the market today. and lg ks360? where did that come from, haha , a bit random. and idk what you are talking bout, but I gotta say that its really ugly, most teens (including me) wouldn't be caught dead with that thing, it looks sooo 2005.
i dont see why ppl complain about tht N97 keyboard i tested it out a cupel of times and its realy good i enjoy it more then the E75 , i guess it just suits my fingers!
THATS A BRILLIANT VIDEO!! It's CameraManAdam Here And I Was Thinking Of Getting A LG KS360 and would you recomend it

I don't have a preference for either touch or buttons.
I like the touch because with the big screen I can watch videos.
But I always need to keep looking at the screen because there's nothing to feel except the screen.
So if I was emailing/messaging all the time, buttons. But for games/videos etc touch screens.
I do more of the former so I'm swayed to buttons.

Hmm..... Yes, the N82 did creak a little. Have you tried padding the battery compartment with a sliver or three of paper?
